senator rubio walked off his campaign bus with gov. haley and the applause and the cheers became louder. gov. haley opened the event by talking about her childhood, growing up as an indian in bamberg and the struggles she faced. she then talked about how her lifestyle was similar to rubio's- stating he understands the hardships of americans because he lived height it. haley went on to say endorsing rubio was easy. she says he brings unity to the republican party and has a plan to make every day in our country a great day. let's take a listen. "donald trump did continue his attacks on jeb bush tonight, calling bush a "clown." he'll appear on-stage with bush tomorrow night in columbia for a townhall. in sumter, chad mills, wis news 10." new poll numbers out this evening are suggesting trump could be losing his edge nationally. according to the latest nbc news poll--texas senator ted cruz is now polling two percentage points ahead of trump. marco rubio comes in third in that poll with 17 percent...followed by john kasich, ben carson, and jeb bush. tonight, cruz didn't seem too surprised by the numbers. "it's tremendously encouraging...to be leading the field nationally, i think as a result. hj: did you ever think you'd be here? cruz: that was always the plan. that's how you win. you've gotta get to first place to win." when it comes to polling in south carolina--the numbers continue to show cruz well behind donald trump.

the board--ben carson's campaign isn't slowing down in south carolina. between stops in columbia and greenville, carson made a pit stop in newberry for lunch at the grille on main. he was joined by south carolina voters like clarice smalley, who says she's knocked on at least 12-thousand doors, handing out information about carson. "my friend and i got involved... first time we've ever been involved in politics, because he's just god's answer for this country and we've been inspired." dr. carson's final south carolina stops ahead of the primary include greenville, north charleston and florence. new tonight: democratic presidential contender bernie sanders says he's fixing to bust through hillary clinton's political "fire wall" in south carolina. sanders spoke with wis news 10 this afternoon. after barely losing to hillary clinton in the iowa caucuses and soundly beating her in the new

concentrating on this saturday's nevada caucus. but he has also been running hard in south carolina in the palmetto state, support for hillary has been historically so strong the state is sometimes called the "fire wall" that can stop an opponent. but sanders told me he's going after that wall. i think we may create a bit of a crack in that proposed firewall. we did very well in iowa. we defined expectations there. we won in new hampshire. i think we've got a real good shot in nevada. and i honestly believe we are going to do a lot, a lot better in south carolina then people have thought that we would. there's no question in my mind that we have closed the gap. every poll that i have seen says that. we started off 50, 60 points behind. we are still behind today. but we have a period eft to go. i think the momentum is with us and i think if there is a large voter turnout, if working people come out to vote, if

the director of south carolina's department of public safety is heading for another four years at the helm. today, the senate unanimously approved leroy smith for a second term at the dps. the agency overseas the highway patrol, transport police, and bureau of protective services. smith took over the agency in 2011. he says he hopes to address concerns over low pay to help retain troopers. president obama is expected to make a visit to cuba next month as the two countries continue efforts to normalize relations. the white house is expected to announce the trip as early as tomorrow. the trip will be the first time a sitting u.s. president has visited cuba in more than 8 decades. just yesterday, the two nations signed a deal restoring commercial air traffic. apple is vowing to take on uncle sam in a fight over a terrorist's iphone. a federal judge has ordered the company to help the fbi break into a locked phone used by one of the san bernardino shooters. but as brian mooar reports, apple says the order could endager phone privacy for hundreds of millions of other
