he suffered a defeat in the primary tonight and announced he is suspending his campaign. >> here is a look at the up to the minute numbers. donald trump is coming in first with a solid lead at 32% of the vote. >> before we go to decision 2016 coverage we are continuing to coverage the breaking news of a shooting at columbia centre in columbia. we have team coverage out there jack kinsley. let's get the latest. >> reporter: charles and judy, as you can tell, there is an active and police first responder presence out here in the columbia centre mall where. we are in the parking lot of best by across from the mall. this is where the command center has been for much of the evening.

inside and outside of the mall. it started shortly before 7:10 this morning with a first fight that led to shots fired. there were multiple gunshots extremely loud and sounding like explosion explosions. but the shots were firee into the air and not at each other. no one was hit. that confirmed again just within the last hour by the police chief of columbia. no reports of anyone seeking help at area hospitals and no innocent by-standers suffering injuries. shoppers were screaming and running from the store. they have two suspects. here is the description. >> two black males, ages 20-25, both 5-10 and 150 pounds. onon was wearing acid wash genes

with a red t-shirt and armed with a black handgun. the second suspect was wearing a dark hoody, unknown pants and armed with a black handgun. >> reporter: the chief gave that description within the last hour. there is surveillance and video but it has not been released. law enforcement has a lot of work left to do. forensic experpts are under is the mall collecting evidence and that will take some time. it is not entirely clear if the mall will reopen on sunday or some portions might be off limits to the public. traffic is getting back to normal. two supects remain at large. we are live in the columbia centre area with wis news 10. >> people inside the mall say when the shots range out it was very scary.

>> reporter: judy, we know it will be a busy night inside the mall as the police continue to process the scene. here outside of the mall on the perimeter a different picture than the command center. it has calmed down out here. there was a heavy police presence earlier with the officers blocking offffhe entrance were most of the night. just in the last hour they finally left. and of course many of these businesses have been quite for several hours tonight. many were forced to lock up as the police encouraged them to do so and out of their own fear for safety inside the mall was an even more frightening situation and two people described the very dramatic scene. >> i was crying. i had my baby in my hands.

the store because they thought someone was running in the store with a gun. i was ready to get out of there. i was ready to get my baby out there there. a bunch of people ran outside of the door but they would not let us go out. >> it was the worst experience every. >> reporter: those trying to meet up with loved ones who became separated during the shooting were directed today the toys-r-us parking lot. that parking lot has been empty in the last couple hours so that has cleared out as well. so we are hoping all of those reunions have been made. as for all of the businesses here we have been told they have been cleared. there are police patrolling the area and they should be able to open tomorrow morning we are told. live in columbia, wis news 10. the 2016 presidential race

to beat after taking south carolina's important primary tonight and did it by a decisive margin. chad mills is live in spartanburg. >> reporter: the supporters of trump are calling this win a decisive victory tonight. he won all but two counties in the state of south carolina and in fact nbc news was able to call this primary for donald trump only after about 35 minutes after the polls closed at 7 o'clock this evening. when he took the stage here at the marriott he did not speak about the other candidates in the race. he didn't even mention jeb bush's decision to suspend the campaign. south carolina has been an insurance policy for donald trump after the first stop in
