south winds take over the entire area ahead of the stronger cold front. look for scattered showers, an isolated storm in some areas, highs will be tricky today as some will see near 60 others middle to upper 60s. tonight wednesday: that weak cold front will change identity and come back at us as a warm front. brisk south winds will kick out the wedge and temperatures will rise into the middle 70s during the day wednesday. my thinking is the best chance for severe weather is during the time the warm front develops. there will be plenty of moisture along with strong winds in the upper atmosphere that will be the right ingredients for the development of severe thunderstorms.

it's a hot button issue that critics on capitol hill have fought for years. tracie potts has more on the plan...and the reaction. good afternoon. president obama wants to transfer 35 terror suspects to other countries - then close the detention facility at guantanamo bay - "gitmo" and move the rest - dozens of dangerous suspects -- to prisons military bases in the u-s... 13 so far undisclosed sites around the country. the president argues - we're actually less safe housing suspected terrorists at gitmo ... because they're using that - as a recruiting tool. he says our allies are constantly asking about the 91 prisoners left there. and he argues... it's draining 455 million dollars a year from our military. president obama says closing gitmo and bringing those prisoners here -- ass scary as that sounds - is the best choice. "we're already holding a bunch of really dangerous terrorists here in the u-s. the top republican in the senate says it's illegal - so the president's plan is going nowhere: senate majority leader :xx-:xx "so we'll review the president's plan but since it includes bringing dangerous terrorists to facilities in u.s. facilities, the bipartisan will of congress already expressed against that proposal. the president's trying to fulfill a campaign promise. but getting this done in an election year - that could be tough if not impossible. the house armed services - it will hold a hearing. a developing story we're following here in the midlands... we just got in this mugshot of eleventh circuit solicitor donnie myers, who's now facing a new dui charge. highway patrol responded to old chapin and beech creek roads in lexington last night where a car had

no one was inside the car....but troopers say they traced it to myers, went to his home and determined he had been driving under the influence. according to troopers, a breath test revealed that myers had a blood alcohol content of point-zero-nine. this is not the first time myers has faced dui charges. in 2005, he plead guilty to dui and served a year probation. in 2012 -- he was charged with having an open container. these are pictures from that night in may when he was stopped near his home following a u-s-c baseball game. in that case, he paid a fine to avoid court. senior reporter jack kuenzie is looking into the latest charge and will have more on our evening newscasts. new at noon... the last of the three lexington county deputies injured in a crash last week is now out of the hospital. that news coming from the lexington county sheriff's department this morning. the crash happened last wednesday. investigators say two patrol cars were responding to a burglary in progress when they collided. exactly how the cruisers hit each other is still under

ahead of this weekend's "first in the south" democratic presidential primary, hillary clinton and bernie sanders will both answer questions tonight from voters in columbia during a cnn town hall. it's being held at the usc school of law on main street. the town hall airs tonight from 8 to 10. wis will have coverage leading up to the event-- as well as highlights on the news at eleven. ahead of tonight's town hall, clinton is expected to speak at a forum called "breaking down barriers" at central baptist church in columbia. she has a group of mothers on her side with high-profile stories. she'll be joined by a group that includes the mothers of trayvon martin, sandra bland, eric garner and dontre hamilton. they spoke at mount zion missionary baptist church in sumter monday. the women say clinton is the only candidate who listened and talked with them about their concerns. clinton also has a south carolina congressman to thank for some new momentum in her campaign.

clinton in her 2016 run for president. the congressman says it was his wife and three daughters who convinced him that he had an obligation to speak out. clyburn sat down with wis to talk about his decision. he says he likes bernie sanders-- but he believes clinton has a better resume of proven leadership and experience. "when young people tell me they appreciate hillary's history and that was then and this is now, i tell them just remember it is the resume that you were trying to build, you don't want anybody to tell you 20 years after you build your resume that that was then and this is now." when asked about donald trump winning the republican primary in south carolina, congressman clyburn said he thinks people aren't being as deliberate about the future. bernie sanders is picking up an endorsement from a big name in the film industry. spike lee released a pro-sanders ad here in south carolina today. in the 60-second spot..lee says quote, "when bernie gets into the white house he

sanders is looking to increase his support among african-american voters. a recent c-n-n-o-r-c poll in the state showed clinton with 64-percent support from black voters. this evening, sanders' wife, jane sanders, will talk about education here in the palmetto state. she's expected to hear from local parents and families in columbia-- and share senator sanders' vision for creating educational opportunities in the state. that's happening today at five at the cecil a. tillis center on simpkins lane. the event is free and open to the public. republican candidates hope their last-minute campaigning efforts will pay off in today's nevada caucus. the state has 30 delegates up for grabs. the latest poll there shows donald trump with a 16 point lead over ted cruz in the state. in south carolina politics, one north charleston pastor wants to challenge senator tim scott in his re-election campaign. at his announcement monday, pastor thomas dixon says he wants to reach out to people who

elected officials. dixon is planning to run as a resigned in 2013. a tennessee man is behind bars in newberry county after police say he held up a midlands bank. herbert pugh- walked into the b-b-&-t on wilson road in newberry around 12:45 monday and handed a teller a note demanding money. police say once he was given the money, he took off. when officers got to the scene newberry county detention center. a former camden police officer now faces criminal charges over accusations he watched pornography in his patrol car. a warrant shows 41- year-old marshall hardin the second was charged with misconduct in office on friday. in december-- sled agents say someone saw hardin park his cruiser in a park while he was on duty...and then touch himself while watching the video on his personal cell phone. hardin is also accused of

his car. if he is convicted-- he could get up to 10 years in prison. columbia police are still working to piece together evidence that could be related to the reported shooting at the columbiana centre mall over the weekend. investigators say they discovered a book bag in some nearby woods with several airsoft guns in it. at this point they are working to figure out if there is a connection. witnesses tell police they saw two men armed with handguns, however they haven't been able to confirm seeing the men actually shoot. police also haven't found any shell casings. call crimestoppers at 1- 888-crime-sc if you have any information that can help. the air force colonel in charge of the 20th fighter wing at shaw air force base has removed his second-in-command colonel william jones. a spokesperson says colonel stephen jost took action after a loss of confidence in jones. jones has been reassigned to the headquarters of the ninth air force at shaw. still to come on the news at noon. victim's families asking why in michigan after the deadly shooting over the weekend.

emergency chutes in the snow today. an engine fire forced the flight to abort takeoff as smoke got into the cabin. boradcasters n-h-k showed video of the passengers evacuating and then gathering on the snow-covered tarmac at the airport. police say one women suffered a minor hip injury. a fire in southeastern australia is under control after it caused a crane arm to collapse. firefighters battled the fire in melbourne for hours today. no one was injured. firefighters believe an electrical fire started in the motor of the crane. there are plans to have it dismantled. relief supplies are being handed out on fiji's main island today after a powerful cyclone slammed into the region, killing 29 people. more than one thousand homes are believed to have been flattened in one of the major cities. winds from cyclone winston reached more than 170 miles per hour when it tore through the pacific island chain over the

still under budget, but while it was ahead of schedule for a some time -- the october floods did which in turn -- the project manager says they were able to put in additional storm water measures. since then, everything is back to running on schedule -- including the project being 2 million dollars under budget. richland county leaders are anxious for the new life the decker center will bring. chad fosnight: "we can assure the public that once this is done -- once the skin of this building has been taken off and the new skin is on the building -- it's going to look like a fantastic facility. it's going to be a great economic development driver for this community." jim manning: "what it's going to do for the businesses along the corridor, we just can't even imagine how exciting it's going to be." the project manager tells me the organizations moving in here -- including traffic courts and the richland county sheriff's department

the sheriff's department says the annual battle on the basketball court between the lexington county department of public safety and the sheriff's department brought in 12-thousand dollars. public safety took home bragging rights this year with a 10-point victory over the sheriff's department. however- lexington county sheriff jay koon won the free throw contest at halftime. the race for the place for columbia's st. lawrence place had record turnout over the weekend. 340 people participated in the annual 5k saturday to raise money to support homeless families who live at st. lawrence place. usc women's basketball coach dawn staley and her non-profit innersole supported this year's race and our own judi gatson helped kickoff the event. st. lawrence place is a 30-home community for homeless families in the midlands that aims to help get them back on their feet through specialized programs. strong storm system moves into the state on wednesday with severe thunderstorms likely. clearing skies and cooler temperatures the rest of the week behind the front.
