"there have been a number of incidents causing outages. richland and lexington county were particularly hard hit, and we've been working all around the state to try to restore outages as they've come up." jones says the company has re-routed crews from other counties. she says some from sumter will be headed here thursday morning. customers back on at one time." that was chad mills reporting. jones says that's why sce&g trims limbs throughout the year -- to reduce the damage in windy situations like we're seeing right now. it was a close call for one taxi driver yesterday afternoon due to those winds about. while driving down millwood avenue in columbia-- a large tree limb windshield. the driver said he thinks the high winds caused the branch to fall. he says he's lucky he walked away ... because that branch left his cab a wreck. after crews cleared the scene, the car had to be towed away. the storm system is being blamed for the death of one man in darlington county. the county coroner says the man, identified as michael gaines, senior died after being hit by a falling tree branch while he was walking on gilchrist road in darlington. someone nearby called 9-1-1 right after gaineses was hit and pinned to the ground by the branch. "right before the incident, the tree broke and i guess he didn't know which way to run and the tree fell on him."

state employees could be in for some bigger paychecks. the house budget writing committee approved a new 7 and a half billion dollar spending plan wednesday. under the plan, income taxes would be cut and most state employees would get a 1-percent pay raise. millions of dollars going to k through 12 education also includes a 2-percent cost-of-living pay bump for teachers. 250-million dollars would also be allocated for roadwork, the committee hopes to wrap up its work today. the full house and senate must approve the plan before the budget takes effect on july 1st. a new initiative by public and private groups across south carolina will work to stop cyber hackers. governor nikki haley attended the official launch of the "sc cyber" program at usc wednesday. the goal is to secure the state's cyber infrastructure by training government workers, business people, and small business owners about security techniques. right now, about 23- hundred people in south carolina work in the cyber security field. the goal is to grow that number with this new

top stories this morning-- people in the southeast and east coast are in recovery mode after severe thunderstorms and tornadoes destroyed homes and knocked out power. it's reported eight people have died in the storms that left a path of destruction from louisiana to pennsylvania. we're tracking the latest in the alert center this morning. that severe weather caused power outages across the carolina. sce&g reported more than 2,800 outages late wednesday, with most in richland and lexington counties. as of this morning that number is down to a little over 300. duke energy reports as of 8pm wednesday they had 96-thousand customers without power in north and south carolina. as you get ready to head out this morning, you will need to hold on to your hats. those strong winds are still an issue around the a wind advisory will be in effect for much of the day. let's check in with tim miller on this friday eve. he has your first alert forecast as you're waking up.

the south carolina democratic primary, and candidates will notably absent from the midlands today. despite some campaign events planned -- bernie sanders and hillary clinton will be turning much of their attention to states in the march 1st super tuesday contests. yesterday, clinton worked on gaining more supporters here in the midlands. she made several campaign stops in west columbia yesterday -- and also spoke to supporters in sumter at morris college. clinton's message centered on uniting the country. "this campaign is all about bringing us together to solve our problems. it's about putting forth real solutions that will make a difference in people's lives." during the rally, clinton also took the opportunity to attack republican rival ted cruz over the issue of social security. she also spoke on the issue of winning over a red state such as south to attack republican rival ted south carolina. senator bernie sanders is focused on lifting south carolina families out of sanders held an early morning campaign news conference on wednesday-- hoping pick up some momentum before

overnight those strong winds have still been whipping from that vigorous

moved through our area. utility crews have been working around the clock to clean up the damage left behind from the wind and restore numerous power outages around the midlands. our michal higdon joins us live from downtown columbia with an update on outages reported there -- michal? as of a couple of hours ago, several blocks around bull street had their power restored after going several hours without it. however, an entire block radius in every direction is blocked from laurel and marion street this morning after a traffic light collapsed from yesterday's high winds. take a look. there are downed tree limbs near the traffic light and one side of it is hanging very close to the ground.

one will be able to get near it until crews make repairs. but that's just some of the damage we saw yesterday. there were broken tree limbs that smashed into cars, a home's fence flattened, power lines down and street signs in disarray in other parts of richland county. crews have been busy since -- working to get things back in order. especially sce&g trying to get power restored to customers who lost it when those high winds of single incidents at different homes, so some of those outages will take some more time to repair than, for instance, a large incident where you can get a lot of customers back on at one time." you can see on your screen that crews have been working diligently to get power restored, and few are left at this point. sce&g tells us they are bringing in additional crews this morning from sumter to help with the rest of the repairs. live in columbia, michal higdon, wis news 10. new this morning-- columbia fire crews responded to a house fire

richland county. right now information is limited, but we have heard that people inside the home were able to make it out safely. this is in the woodfield park subdivision right behind richland northeast high school. we'll be checking in with columbia investigators to learn more on what started that fire. breaking in the alert center right now australia's government is warning that terrorists could be preparing attacks in indonesia. the department of foreign affairs and trade is urging travelers to exercise a high degree of caution especially tourists visiting bali. australia warns that terrorists may be plotting attacks in and around kuala lumpur. a midlands man who lost his daughter in a deadly dui crash is leading the charge in a rally today to call for a longtime lexington prosecutor to resign. david longstreet believes solicitor donnie myers has lost his moral authority to prosecute cases involving drunk driving. cases like the one that resulted in a conviction against the man who drove drunk

crash that killed his 6-year old daughter emma, in 2012. solicitor myers was arrested monday on a dui charge after a crash. longstreet says the county can't take any more of a chief prosecutor with a track record of alcohol- related offenses. "he had a chance, he had an opportunity to get help, tototake medical treatment in those last couple of years since 2012. as you can see we don't have any record of that as of yesterday." longstreet is planning to continue his call for myers to hillary clinton is working on gaining the support of south carolinians ahead of saturday's democratic primary. yesterdada clinton picked up an endorsement in senate minority leader harry reid. she also spoke at a rally in sumter at morris college. clinton talked about uniting the country and finding solutions to problems-- and she also took the opportunity to attack ted cruz over social security issues. have still been whipping from that vigorous storm system that moved through our area. utility crews have been working around the clock to clean up the damage left behind from the wind and restore numerous power outages around the midlands. our michal higdon joins us live from downtown columbia with an update on outages reported there -- michal? as of a couple of hours ago, several blocks around bull street had their power restored after going several hours without it. however, an entire block radius in every direction is blocked from laurel and marion street this morning after a traffic light collapsed from yesterday's

there are downed tree limbs near the traffic light and one side of it is hanging very close to the ground. there is no power to it and no one will be able to get near it until crews make repairs. but that's just some of the damage we saw yesterday. there were broken tree limbs that smashed into cars, a home's fence flattened, power lines down and street signs in disarray in other parts of richland county. crews have been busy since -- working to get things back in order. especially sce&g trying to get power restored to customers who lost it when those high winds picked up. "what you're looking at is a lot of single incidents at different homes, so some of those outages will take some more time to repair than, for instance, a large incident where you can get a lot of customers back on at one time." you can see on your screen that crews have been working diligently to get power restored, and few are left at this point. sce&g tells us they are bringing in additional crews this morning from sumter to help with the st of the repairs.

a midlands man who lost his daughter in a deadly dui crash is leading the charge calling for a longtime lexington prosecutor to resign. david longstreet believes solicitor donnie myers has lost his moral authority to prosecute cases involving drunk driving -- cases like the one that killed longstreet's 6-year old daughter emma, in 2012. solicitor myers was arrested monday on a dui charge after a crash. longstreet says the county can't take any more of a chief prosecutor with a track record of alcohol- related offenses. "he had a chance, he had an opportunity to get help, to take medical treatment in those last couple of years since 2012. as you can see we don't have any record of that as of yesterday." longstreet is planning to continue his call for myers to step down during a rally today at the lexington county courthouse. the man who owned a company that manufactured internet "sweepstakes" machines -- now considered illegal in south carolina has been sentenced. l.w. flynn, who ran magic c nutes,

floods now has a newly renovated home. jennifer gneiser walked into her newly- renovated house in pine glen yesterday. a national disaster recovery organization with local partners called the "rebuild together" initiative came together to fix it up. jennifer says she's been apart from her two teenage sons as crews worked on the house. "i can instill now in my children a sense of giving and that we can move forward as a family with that sense of giving and repay it that way." jennifer's home is one of 12 homes that the "rebuild together" initiative is working to restore in the wake of the flood. sce and g is working to provide
