we're following overnight breaking news out of berkeley county this morning, where we're told a deputy was shot while on duty just a few hours ago. this happened in goose creek. investigators tell us someone fired on the femaile deputy when she got out of her vehicle while on patrol just after midnight. she was rushed to a hospital and is reported in stable condition. right now we're told officers are still looking for a suspect, but a name or description has not been released. state police are also assisting in the investigation. we'll have more on this breaking story throughout the morning right here on sunrise. let's get your early morning started with a look at your forecast. tim miller is in the first alert storm center with your wake up weather. looks like march will come in like a lamb next week as we'll see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies through tuesday as high pressure builds in through the first of next week. today, mostly sunny, a bit

vote preference among regisisred democrats. clinton -- looking to capitalize on that lead made some campaign stops in the palmetto state yesterday. in williamsburg county -- clinton held a rally in kingstree where she addressed president obama's legacy and took the opportunity to knock republican presidential candidates who want to repeal the affordable care act. she also talked about how elected leaders can better represent the community. "i think you should go into politics with the idea that you want to help people and you want to help people have a better life, a better future, more opportunity. so, we have a difference in philosophy here." clinton also made stops in north charleston, myrtle beach and florence yesterday. we'll have more on her final campaign rounds in the midlands ahead in our next half hour of sunrise. last night, president bill clinton 'got out the vote' for his wife at fairfield middle school in winnsboro.

"here in winnsboro, president clinton laid out his case for his wife, hillary clinton. he told the crowd that hillary's spent a lifetime making things happen." many inside this small middle school gym never thought they'd see the day a president comes to town. but a hoarse president bill clinton capped off a long day of campaigning for his wife in winnsboro. early on, he focused on the republican frontrunner, donald trump. bill clinton "the person who just won the primary in south carolina says, basically, 'i'll make american great again.' hillary says, 'we never stopped being great.'" he told the standing- room-only crowd that hillary would, instead, "make america whole again" before touching on repairing relationships with law enforcement. bill clinton "we're sick of seeing movies on television news that look like they ought to be in a bad gangster film of people being shot on the street that have no

"one of the things that really made me lean towards bernie was ideas." elaine davis midlands. he'll join hillary for a rally at boyd plaza on main street in anwhile, bernie sanders took his campaign out of the state thursday to hear from the residents of flint, michigan affected by the city's water crisis. this was sander's first visit to flint, although he met privately with members of the community at a rally in detroit earlier this month. during the forum, sanders described the situation in flint as horrific, and blamed the crisis on collapsing infrastructure and government mismanagement. "and to hear what is happening to the children in this community is so horrific, it's so painful, it's almost hard to discuss." sanders followed his forum in flint with a rally in chicago last night. he will return to south carolina for campaign stops in the midlands today. wis will be bringing you complete team coverage of the democratic races starting tomorrow morning at 9am. we'll be live at the polls following the voters and the candidates.

results of those races with special live coverage beginning at 7pm and a complete wrap up tomorrow night at 11. it was a fiesty and fiery presidential debate in texas last night. this time, there were five republican candidates on the stage, but the spotlight was really on three contenders... and the sharp exchanges among them. karin caifa is in houston, with some of the highlights five candidates on stage but really, a three-man battle. many wondered coming into this debate -- who would attack first, and who would attack fiercest. would it be donald trump, on a three-state winning streak, and trying to shut down his rivals? or his rivals trying to knock him out of the top spot. marco rubio struck quickly, and often. ted cruz jumping in too. presidential candidate "you're the only person on his stage fined for working on your project illegally" presidential candidate "i'm the only one on the stage who has hired people. you haven't hired anybody." presidential candidate in 2013, when i was leading the

the stage. this was the last time voters that is when eleven republican at the university of houston, i'm karin caifa. morning... authorities in kansas are trying to figure out what triggered a gunman to go on a shooting spree at a manufacturing plant killing 3 others. the gunman himself, also dead. we get the latest this morning from dan scheneman. "everybody said that there was gunshots, there was a shooter, and we just kept hearing pop pop." it was near the end of the work day when authorities in south central kansas were called to a shooting... that was followed by a report of another attack at another location and then......word of an active shooter inside excel industries... "it didn't' matter who it was he had no specific target, he just... shooting anyone who got in his way." he first shot someone in the plant's parking lot.... "we was already looking at him and he yelled and just went doot..doot...doot and then entered the

"it is." authorities believe myers lost a breath test revealed myers had a point oh nine blood alcohol level. myers contends he was run off the road. this arrest is the third alcohol-related charge for myers since 2005. investigators now know the name of the victim allegedly shot and killed by midlands businessman greg leon. the lexington county coroner says he was 28- year-old arturo santos. santos was found shot multiple times outside a vehicle near corley mill road last week. the coroner says the mexican consulate and a family member living in the area helped identify him. leon was arrested and charged with santos' death. according to warrants, leon called 9-1-1 and told

this happened in a neighborhood in goose creek. our caroline patrickis is following the latest on the investigation in the alert center. len and mary, right now investigators tell us that deputy is in stable condition. all while they continue to search for the person responsible for the shooting. here's a look at the scene right now. we are learning the female deputy was shot shortly after midnight when she got out of her patrol car in the goose creek area. we're told she was on patrol at the time of the shooting. investigators including state police have been on the scene for several hours now searching for evidence. right now there's no description or word on the suspected gunman. we'll be keeping you updated as the investigation continues. you may remember - less than one year ago, a berkeley county deputy survived being shot in the head while on

convention center on lininln street. it's quiet right now, but in about an hour folks will start arriving to set up -- for the blood drive to officially get underway at 7 this morning. this blood drive comes at a critical time for the red cross. winter and cold weather take a toll on blood donation here in south carolina. severe weather and seasonal illnesses means fewer people are giving blood. here in the palmetto state -- the red cross says it needs 500 donations each day to meet the demand. surgery patients, organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease may all need blood on any given day. "blood donation is such a unique way to make an impact in someone's life. all it takes is about 45 minutes to an hour of your time. and you're literally giving of yourself to another person the gift of life. and it's's gift you can give a

they want those sentences served consecuitvely. defense attorneys have asked for chism to be given concurrent sentences and serve 26 years in prison. chism was found guilty for killing then raping colleen ritzer, who was his math teacher. today is the deadline for apple to respond to the department of justice's new court order issued over the phone belonging to one of the san bernardino terrorists. apple could be forced to create a new customized i-o-s firmware that would remove the passcode lockout on the seized iphone. last week- apple reiterated its commitment to privacy and that it had "no connection" to what data may exist on the phone. federal authorities want apple to unlock the phone for the investigation. u-s lawmakers are accusing takata of faking test results to cover up the company's exploding airbag issue. government reports show company officials aruged that data on inflator quality and testing was manipulated to hide the problems. the defective airbags could explode and send metal fragments through the air-- causing serious injury or death.

a deputy who was shot overnight in berkeley county. we've learned the search for the gunman has expanded into the north charleston area after a vehicle matching a description given to police was spotted in that area. this is now 2 seperate scenes as law enforcement continue to search for the person responsible for the shooting. the female deputy was on duty at the time when she shot shortly after midnight in goose creek. investigators tell us she's in a hospital in stable condition. state police are assisting in the investigation. we'll be keeping you updated as the investigation continues. you may remember - less than one year ago, a berkeley county deputy survived being shot in the head while on

ohio governor john kasich is facing some pressure among his rival candidates to suspend his campaign and drop out of the race-- but this time, he's flipping the script. kasich had received some flak from marco rubio's campaign to drop out of the race to make way for the other candidates. when asked about dropping out-- kasich stood his ground. he said rubio should drop out of the race if he doesn't win florida. kasich said people who think he should drop out are people in washington who he says he beat 25 years ago. south carolina senators say they want to put a plan for ethics reform at the top of their priority list. they voted to give an ethics bill a priority spot for debate. it joins a bill requiring refugees to register with the state and groups that settle them in south carolina accept liability if they commit any terrorist acts. the ethics bill would revamp the state ethics commission to 12 members and allow it to investigate complaints against all public officials-- including legislators and judges.

the man suspected of opening fire on employees at excel industries in rural kansas -- killing 3. nbc news just released this photo of a man who's been named as cedric ford. several reports to nbc news have named ford as the gunman. this is the scene overnight where authorities have been investigating inside the home belonging to ford. all of this after that shooting that left 3 victims dead, and more than a dozen injured. critical condition this morning. richland county deputies need your help identifying two men accused of holding up a chinese restaurant earlier this week. take a look at this surveillance. investigators say the suspects entered the back door of the china wall restaurant on broad river road, monday night. one of the men reportedly stole

to come out of the home on durant avenue in north charleston. this is another live look at the scene there wherere there is heavy police presence right now. investigators say the suspect is injured and bleeding. 3 people were inside the home, and were able to make it out. these details after the search for the gunman expanded into the north charleston area after a vehicle matching a description given to police was spotted in that area. the female deputy was geting out of her patrol car when she was shot shortly after midnight in goose creek. investigators tell us she's in a hospital in stable condition. the berkeley county sheriff's office is asking for your prayers for the deputy. you may remember - less than one year ago, a berkeley county deputy survived

results start trickling in. over on the republican side-- things got heated at last night's presidential debate in houston, texas-- which was moderated by cnn. enemy number one? frontrunner donald trump. senators marco rubio and ted cruz took aim at trump, clashing over immigration and accusing trump of donating to the campaigns of democratic senators. cruz also hit back at trump for repeatedly calling him a liar. presidential candidate "every time anyone points at donald's actual record, what he said on national liar. let me tell you something, falsely accusing someone of a lying is itself a lie itself and it's something donald does daily." presidential candidate "i don't know anything about bankrupting four companies. you bankrupted four companies. i don't know anything -- i don't know anything about starting a fake university." donald trump was quick to attack back on both candidates about which of the republicans has the best chance to beat the democrats. presidential candidate "this guy's a choke artist, and this guy's a liar."

at the home of solicitor donnie myers. a highway patrol trooper asks myers to perform a number of field sobriety tests at his home, before ultimately taking him in handcuffs to his patrol car. authorities believe myers lost control of his car while trying to make a left turn toward his house and crashed into a utility pole. myers contends he was run off the road. a breath test revealed myers had a point oh nine blood alcohol level. his monday night arrest is the third alcohol-related charge for myers since 2005. coming up on news 10 sunrise... lost his life but will now be staying with someone with a

it's the sixth annual lifesavers blood drive and our michal higdon is live there this morning with how you can join this team effort. the goal this year is to have more than 300 people donate blood -- which will save about 900 people's lives. the american red cross and city of columbia team up every year for this event. and city departments even compete to see who can recruit the most donors for the "team" -- ultimately rallying the entire city around a life- saving cause. since the start six years ago -- this blood drive has generated more than 14- hundred pints of blood -- which is a huge impact because each pint of blood can save up to three lives. i spoke with the american red cross and they tell us there is a significan need for blood donations right
