just last month, washington was arrested on tax charges. now some are questioning washington's future on council. wis' meaghan norman joins us with the latest. judi, two weeks ago kelvin washington pleaded guilty to three counts of failure to file a tax return. now, another incident -- this time, a felony charge. he didn't say much as he was leaving alvin s. glenn detention center after bonding out yesterday afternoon. after pleading guilty to tax charges earlier this month -- washington was removed from the transportation ad hoc committee, which oversees projects related to the penny tax. washington's recent actions have caused some citizens and colleagues to be to concerned over his ability to do his job. "with his second arrest it's become abundantly clear that mr. washington has some issues at home that he needs to address. it's my personal opinion that he'd be better served and so richland county. he focuses on addressing these issues at home and allow someone else to fulfill his council duties.

further breakdown of the numbers. dawndy---the department of housing and urban development is allocating nearly $157 million for the entire state. more than a third of that amount---about 38 per cent---is being directed to just two midlands counties and the capital city. more specifically---lexington county receiving about $16-point-3 million dollars from hud. the city of columbia slated to take in just under $20 million dollars. and hard-hit richland county the largest share in this area with more than $23-and-a half million. that leaves about $96- point-8 million for the rest of the state. all of this of course, in response to the severe damage left by october's rain and flooding. hud secretary julian castro saying the money will help with remaining housing, economic development and infrastructure needs. castro also noting in today's announcement that quote---"with climate change increasing the frequency and intensity of disasters, we must take

and ensure faster recovery" for communities nationwide. hud says with this money, the department is encouraging the recipient communities to incorporate resiliance measures into their plans to make sure they are more prepared for the next storm. we have reached out to those three midlands governments for reaction. we did hear from lexington county administrator joe mergo who says in a statement that during the next few weeks, the county will be working with its hud consultant and local hud officials to make sure the county is in full compliance with government spears creek church road in northeast richland county is now open. part of the road has been closed since the october floods--forcing drivers to take alternate routes. it's a whirlwind day on the campaign trail...with hours to go until super tuesday. senator marco rubio lost his voice in atlanta today and brought in governor nikki haley to rally for him.

a marker will soon go up honoring a fallen officer who lost his life protecting the community he grew up in. the intersection at beltline boulevard and forest drive will be named after officer greg alia - who was shot and killed while responding to a call at the richland mall in september. senator joel lourie sponsored the bill. he says it was unanimously passed in the senate. greg's wife, kassy, says the sign will represent a lifetime of memories and service. association were on hand to announce that lexi becker placed 10th in the nation for her essay about investing in target. but the loudest applause came when they found out classmate momo farmer's essay about investing in amazon placed first... winning her the "invest with genius" title, along with a laptop, a camera and some cool prizes for her classmates and teacher. the girls and their classmates were challenged to write about an investing scenario and make recommendations that incoporate short and long term financial goals. both were still a little in shock to learn they are the best in the nation. "when i saw my family walking down. i was like freaking out. i was so excited." he bonded out of court sunday afternoon. the crash happened saturday evening on bluff road in hopkins. troopers say two men were inside the other vehicle -- one man is still in the hospital in intensive care. we are still waiting on the department of public safety to release additional details of the crash including washington's blood alcohol level. we have learned today that south carolina communities will be awarded 157-million dollars to help with disaster recovery efforts following significant flooding last october. the u-s department of housing and urban development -- or hud -- says the funds will help with remaining unmet housing, economic development, and infrastructure needs that resulted from thousands of homes and small businesses being damaged or destroyed. you can see on your screen how the nearly 157 million dollars will be allocated. lexington county is getting about 16 million, the city of columbia is getting nearly 20 million, richland county will get almost

thanks for joining us this evening. i'm judi gatson. a richland county councilman could be headed for hard time in prison over accusations of drunk driving. kelvin washington is out of jail after he was arrested over the weekend. highway patrol troopers say saturday night, washington rear-ended another vehicle on bluff road in hopkins. this latest arrest comes right after washington pleaded guilty earlier this month to multiple counts of not filing a tax return. and now meaghan norman reports his fellow members of the county council are concerned. charles and judi, if convicted kelvin washington faces at least a 51-hundred dollar fine and up to 15 years in prison. his license could be suspended and he could be required to have an ignition interlock device in his car for three years. washington has not made a public statement after bonding out of jail yesterday afternoon. this is the second time in two months washington has been in bond court.
