washington was removed from the committee dealing with penny tax projects and revenue. county council members are concerned especially with this latest arrest. "with his second arrest it's become abundantly clear that mr. washington has some issues at home that he needs to address. it's my personal opinion that he'd be better served and so would the citizens of richland county. he focuses on addressing these issues at home and allow someone else to fulfill his council duties. as for this horrible incident i'm praying for everybody that's been impacted." a look at washington's record shows several traffic violations including at least 5 speeding tickets over an 8 year period. also, unrelated to traffic violations -- according to the south carolina state ethics commission, it appears washington still owes more than 75- thousand dollars in fines dating back to 2012. as far as washington's position on council -- the governor is the only one with the authority to

if the elected official has been convicted, then she has the authority to remove him from office. we'll continue to follow this story and bring you the latest developments. in the studio, meaghan norman wis news 10. we are learning--and hearing more about what happened a week ago--after midlands solicitor donnie myers slammed his car into a utility pole. the crash happened as the veteran prosecutor was making a turn off old chapin road and heading toward his house. the accident led myers to be arrested and briefly jailed on a charge of driving under the influence. in police dispatch recordings obtained today by wis news ten---the highwaypatrol indicates myers asked the agency to take specific steps regarding his wrecked 2007 lexus. in reference to that 10-50 at the owner's request, make sure you do a towed vehicle slip, also take pictures of that vehicle and make sure you log that 10-59 on the towed vehicle report.

appears the solicitor asked the patrol officer taking him into custody to document the condition of the car--and note on the towing report that there was a gun inside the car. an investigator found a handgun on the floorboard of the car. myers said it had been given to him by former sled chief pete strom, who died in 1987. spring returned to the midlands to start of the week today--with temperatures in the low 70's. ben tanner joins us now with a look at your forecast. a cold front approaching the state will deliver a few late day showers tuesday into wednesday morning with 1/4" rain totals possible. cooler temperatures with partly cloudy skies thursday.will watch for another few showers late

a northeast richland county artery shut down by last falls floods, is finally open again. spears creek church road was left impassable after an upstream dam ruptured and the spears creek roared over it and washed out a bridge back in october. since then, the road has been closed forcing drivers to detour as crews worked to repair the road over the past several months. today, department of transportation officials tweeted out the announcement that the road is back open, and traffic

following last october's flooding disaster---federal officials are now flooding states including this one with new recovery funding. jack kuenzie is in the newsroom with details on the money heading to south carolina and especially the midlands. as we indicated last hour, the department of housing and urban development is allocating about $157 million for the entire state. more than a third---about 38 per cent---directed to just two midlands counties and the capital city. more specifically---lexington county receiving about $16-point-3 million dollars from hud. the city of columbia will take in just under $20 million dollars. and richland county with the largest share in this area with more than $23- and-a half million. that leaves about $96- point-8 million for the rest of the state. all of this linked to the severe damage left by october's rain and flooding. hud secretary julian castro saying the money will help with housing, economic development and infrastructure

help---it will not be doled out immediately. we just spoke with columbia mayor steve benjamin---who says it will take several months to formulate a spending plan. it's going to give us an opportunity to focus regionally on how best we can meet the needs of our citizens in every area, how we can make sure we can make people whole when it comes to housing. how you can do some planning on some of our impaired waterways like gills creek, how we can help our small business and economic developments efforts as long as close to $100 million dollars to hopefully work together to leverage those dollars to the benefit of all our mutual constitutents. the mayor notes congress passed a funding measure in december providing $300 million to address unmet needs in flood stricken areas here and in other states. south carolina ends up with more than half that total amount. jack kuenzie wis news ten.

pivotal day of the 2016 primary election--donald trump is coming under renewed fire today, by activists and by members of his own party. at a rally in virginia--trump was interrupted for several minutes by protests by members of the "black lives matter" movement located throughout the arena. trump drew cheers from his supporters when he ordered them kicked out. after yesterday's appearance on cnn, trump is receiving renewed criticism for his refusal to denounce the endorsement of former ku klux klan grand wizard david duke, and other white supremacist groups. "i don't know anything about david duke, okay? i don't know anything about what you're even talking about with the white supremacy or white supremacists. i mean did he endorse me - or what's going on. because you know i know nothing about david i know nothing about white and so you're asking me a question that i'm supposed to be talking about people that i know nothing about." trump's comments have also drawn

members of his own party, including former presidential candidate mitt romney, who called trump's response "disgusting" and "disqualifying" of the presidency. also today, governor nikki haley fired at trump as she continues to campaign alongside senator marco rubio. haley has previously denounced trump's rhetoric, and today at a rally in atlanta, she said trump's comments do not represent the republican party. "i will not stop until we fight a man that chooses not to disavow the kkk - that is not a part of our party that is not who we want as president, we will not allow that in our country." despite the backlash from several high-ranking republicans, trump is polling as good as ever in a new national poll released today by cnn. the poll shows trump with 49 percent of support by republicans--with a 33 percent lead over the second closest candidate, marco

13 states will hold primaries or caucuses tomorrow on super tuesday. several big wins for trump would give him a huge lead in the delegate count--and pave a nearly inevitable path to the republican nomination. also tomorrow, 11 states will hold democratic contests...as senator bernie sanders looks to stay afloat after a big loss to hillary clinton in south carolina over the weekend. and tomorrow night, nbc will have an hour-long special of nightly news with lester holt. extended live coverage of the super tuesday contests starts at 6:30 and will coming up--the usc women are looking ahead to tournament season after a perfect conference finish. plus, a midlands community is offering a lasting tribute to a fallen hero.

the intersection at beltline boulevard and forest drive will be named after greg alia alia who was shot and killed while responding to a call at the richland mall in september. senator joel lourie sponsored the bill. he says it was unanimously passed in the senate. greg's wife, kassy, says the sign will represent a lifetime of memories and service. gamecocks women's basketball team is only the second team in sec history to finish 16 and 0. the team dominated over lsu last night in 75 to 39 victory. this is the team's third straight sec championship and the fans are celebrating at tonight's pep rally. the team will sign autographs, there's music from the usc pep band and of course a word from head coach dawn staley. tonight's pep rally giving the team great momentum as they prepare to leave and compete in the sec tournament. live in columbia, bjs, wis news
