yesterday, hundreds of people gathered in the streets to protest police say the shooting victim was wanted on felony drug charges and ran away from officers trying to arrest him. at some point during the chase, raleigh police confirm one of their officers shot and killed the man. the victim's mother was in tears at the scene as she described what reported witnesses said they saw. "they killed my son for no reason. everybody out here said that he was running, didn't have a gun, trying to jump a fence and the officer shot my son seven times, for what? for nothing." police have not released the shooting victim's name. investigators say a gun was found at the scene. north carolina's state bureau of investigation is handling the case. a ruling by a new york judge in one case could help apple bolster its argument in another. yesterday, the judge ruled that the justice department cannot force apple to give the fbi access to data from a locked iphone in a routine brooklyn drug case. the judge's decision supports

being dubbed "super tuesday." political experts say today could make or break some campaigns -- specifically on the republican side. a total of 595 republican delegates are up for grabs of the 1,237 needed to clinch the gop nomination. a new c-n-n-o-r-c poll today shows donald trump with a sizable lead, getting 49 percent of the republican primary vote followed by marco rubio with 16 percent and ted cruz with 15 percent. a local political expert says today's vote could determine where each candidate stands in the future of this race. "the momentum builds -- it seems to move very quick. and once there's the appearance of someone steamrolling through

very quickly. and it's very close to that point for donald trump at this point." it's important to note -- that two-thirds of republican votes so far have been toward one of the other four candidates. and political experts say after the more than twelve states vote today -- we will have a better idea of which candidates will still be in the race. senator ted cruz is defending his home turf in texas. yesterday, the republican candidate campaigned across the state in a bid to win its huge delegate prize today on super tuesday. rival donald trump said he thinks he has a very good chance of winning the lone star state. but cruz told reporters in dallas-- he's confident in his texas chances, despite trump's momentum. cruz says a strong texas performance will narrow the gop contest to a two- person race between he and trump. "we're working to get every vote we can a win is winning texas. a win in texas is very simple it is winning texas" "donald trump is, in all likelihood, gonna have a big chuck of delegates and we

officer-involved shooting, monday that left one man dead. hundreds of people gathered last night to protest the killing of 24 year old akiel denkins, pictured here. in a brief news conference, police say he was shot and killed after a short foot chase near downtown raleigh. police say denkins was wanted on a felony drug charge but did not touch on why the officer shot him. witnesses say denkins was unarmed. the victim's mother was in tears on the scene, and is demanding answers from police. "they killed my son for no reason. everybody out here said that he was running, didn't have a gun, trying to jump a fence and the officer shot my son seven times, for what? for nothing." police are giving a different report from witnesses. officers say they found a gun near denkin's body. an investigation will determine who the gun belongs to. police identified the officer who fired the gun as 29-year-old senior officer

we are following a developing story this morning-- one person has died after being found shot in a crashed vehicle in richland county. richland county investigators say shortly after 9:30 last night - a vehicle was found crashed on the 400 block of seton hall drive. the victim was found inside with multiple gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital. the richland county sheriff's department is investigating. fire crews in lugoff are keeping an eye on a series of woods fires that broke out near highway 1 last night. the lugoff fire department says 40 firefighters worked to contain at least 8 separate fires happened near the pepperidge subdivision overnight. they are monitoring the fires through this morning. no structures have been impacted. lugoff fire marshall will catoe says the forestry commission is investigating. orangeburg county sheriff's deputies are looking for a norway teen who is wanted on numerous charges including breaking into a home. 18-year-old tyrone fleming faces second- degree burglary charges, is

buildup in the country. his comments were made on a visit to kuwait on monday. the secretary-general cited increased ground troops, naval forces in the mediterranean, and airstrikes that have targeted non-isis opposition groups. the united nations has been delivering aid to areas in need -- but says it has no plans for ground troops. federal, state and local leaders gathered at the university of michigan, flint campus monday for a forum to discuss the city's water crisis. audience members peppered the panel with concerns about replacing the water systems' lead pipes to aid in cleaning up the water. the state did not require flint to use anti-corrosive chemicals in those pipes when the city switched off of detroit's water system -- something michigan's lieutenant governor says needs to change. michigan "i won't be satisfied until all three types of different testing show the same results but even that being said i want to make it absolutely clear that regardless of the effectiveness of that coating, that the right

four students are recovering in ohio after being hurt during a shooting in their cafeteria monday. police say a 14-year- old student opened fire inside madison junior-senior high school. two students were shot and two others were hurt while trying to run away. they're all expected to be okay. the alleged shooter was taken into custody near school grounds. police say they do have a motive

time. an emotional erin andrews took the stand in nashville to testify about the secret nude video taken of her and posted on the internet. andrews broke down in tears at several points as she described having to watch the video with fbi agents while trying to prove she had nothing to do with the tape. some have accused her of setting the whole thing up to garner fame. andrews is suing the man who shot the video and the owner of the nashville marriott for 75-million dollars. the united states has asked the u-n security council to schedule a vote this afternoon on a resolution that would impose tough new sanctions on north korea after the country's latest nuclear test. a vote on the resolution has been held up for several days by russia. russia says it wants more time to study the lengthy text put together by the united sates and china. the family of late supreme court justice antonin scalia will hold a memorial in his honor today. it will be held at the mayflower hotel in washington d-c. scalia died on february 13-th in texas. multiple supreme court justices are expected to give remarks at the

officers' shooting of a 17-year-old boy over the weekend. the group "utah against police brutality" organized the rally on behalf of abdullahi mohamed, who was shot saturday in downtown salt lake. mohamed remains in critical condition after police say he and another person were beating a man with "metal objects." officers say he continued to attack the man after he was ordered to stop, prompting the shooting. an investigation is underway. virginia police officer ashley guindon will be laid to rest today. last night- her body was escorted by dozens of police cars and motorcycles. guindon and two other officers were responding to a domestic violence call when accused shooter ronald hamilton fired his gun and shot all three officers. only guindon died from her injuries. it was her first day on patrol. her funeral service is expected to be held at noon today. a former cab driver accused of

virginia college students is expected to seek a plea deal in the coming days. jesse matthew is accused of abducting and killing 18-year-old hannah graham back in 2014, and 20-year-old morgan harrington back in 2009. prosecutors say they were planning to seek the death penalty if the case went to trial. matthew is already serving three life sentences in a separate case. he was convicted of sexually assaulting a 26- year-old woman back in 2005. a small passenger bus and four fuel pumps were destroyed in a dramatic fire at a san francisco gas station. officials say the bus driver pulled into the station monday after his engine started overheating and smoking. the potential for explosions forced fire crews to retreat to a safe position and douse the bus in water. officials are still trying to figure out if a series of loud booms heard during the fire were from exploding tires or a gas tank.
