are vying for more than one-thousand of the 2,383 delegates needed to win the democratic race. hillary clinton tops bernie sanders in the latest poll 55 to 38. governor nikki haley is part of a growing list of prominent republicans sounding off on donald trump over his most recent controversy. trump has come under fire after he didn't immediately denounce the support of former ku klux klan grand wizard david duke during an interview sunday. governor haley was on the campaign trail alongside senator marco rubio. at a rally in atlanta, haley said trump's behavior does not represent the republican party. "i will not stop until we fight a man that chooses not to disavow the kkk - that is not a part of our party that is not who we want as president, we will not allow that in our country." former presidential candidate mitt romney also went after trump on twitter -- saying his refusal to

support is "disgusting" and "disqualifying." as we look ahead to super tuesday tonight, nbc will have an hour- long special of nightly news with lester holt. extended live coverage of today's contests starts at 6:30 and will continue through 7. you can also catch more of the results tonight on wis news at 11. a crime alert this morning... richland county deputies are still looking into circumstances surrounding a person who was found shot in a crashed vehicle in richland county last night. investigators say shortly after 9:30 a vehicle was found crashed in the 400 block of seton hall drive. the victim was found inside with multiple gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital. call crimestoppers if you know anything about the case. fire crews in lugoff worked throughout the night to keep an eye on a series of brushfires that broke out yesterrday evening near highway 1. the lugoff fire department says it's been able to contain the fires near the pepperidge subdivision--and that no

impacted at this point. lugoff fire marshall will catoe says the forestry commission is also on scene. "we've got about eight fire departments on scene with 45 firefighters. we are actively trying to put the fires out. we've got two ploughs with forestry on thth ground cutting breaks." catoe says multiple crews will continue keeping an eye on the fires today. a richland county council member facing felony charges for allegedly driving drunk, is touching off worries among his fellow council members. councilman kelvin washington was released from jail sunday after being arrested for felony dui. highway patrol says two people were taken to the hospital saturday night after washington rear- ended their vehicle. if he's convicted, washington could get at least a 51 hundred dollar fine and up to 15 years in yesterday councilman seth rose told wis now is the time for washington to let someone else take over his duties on council

become abundantly clear that mr. washington has some issues at home that he needs to address. it's my personal opinion that he'd be better served and so would the citizens of richland county. he focuses on addressing these issues at home and allow someone else to fulfill his council duties. as for this horrible incident i'm praying for everybody that's been impacted." this latest arrest comes right after washington pleaded guilty earlier this month to multiple counts of not filing a tax return. council will be in session tonight--its unclear if washington will be in attendance. a union county teacher is now "out" of her job over a de picture of her that hit the internet. the union county school system said yesterday that she has resigned. the incident happened at the union county career and technology center. the district's interim superintendent says a student got a hold of the teacher's phone and found the picture, then spread it around through text messages and social media. the union county sheriff's office is investigating to see if the student should be charged. the federal government is

counties hit hardest by last fall's floods a combined 157 million dollars. the u.s. housing and urban development says nearly 20 million dollars will go specifically to the city of columbia. richland county will get 23 point 5 million dollars. another 16 point 3 million dollars will go to lexington county. the latest funds mean the state will receive most of the 300 million dollars congress set aside for flood aid in the budget. a northeast richland county artery shut down by last falls floods, is finally open again. spears creek church road was left impassable after an upstream dam ruptured and the spears creek roared over it and washed out a bridge back in october. since then, the road has been closed forcing drivers to detour as crews worked to repair the road over the past several months. yesterday, department of transportation officials tweeted out the announcement that the road is back open, and traffic is again moving. scdot says the repair will be in place until a

a marker will soon go up honoring a midlands policeman who died protecting the community where he grew up the intersection at beltline boulevard and forest drive will be named after greg alia alia was shot and killed while responding to a call at the richland mall in september. senator joel lourie sponsored the bill and says it was unanimously passed in the senate. greg's wife, kassy, says the sign will represent a lifetime of memories and service. final game of the 2015 season. today they were back on the field...kicking off spring practice. it's been 49 days since clemson lost to alabama in the national championship game. the tigers had a great season....finishing 14 and one...but the disappointment of losing the big game is their big motivation for 2016. they also have deshaun watson..a heisman finalist...returning for his junior year at quarterback. clemson is preparing to make another run at the title. today's about trying to get to number one. that's really what it's about. finished number two, we've been kind of climbing...trying to get to number one...and that's what everybody's objective is. there's no satisfaction on this football team, that's what i like. nobody's showing up and satisfied with last year. last year's over..this is a new year. today was the first of 15 spring practices...including the orange and white game. that's scheduled for april ninth.

for the usc women's basketball team. the carolina alumni association hosted a pep rally for the gamecocks. the fans got a chance to take pictures and get autographs. the ladies were being honored for their third straight sec regular season championship. they also finished with a perfect 16 and oh conference record. admission was free tonight ....but they had to close the online registration because they reached capacity. dawn:what a great way to interact with our fans and hear them cheer us on..even on a day where we don't have to perform. a'ja:we really enjoy just coming out and interacting with our fans. they mean so much to us and give us so much support that we're just so happy to have them. alaina:this is really exciting to have seen the growth of our fan base along with the growth this program it's something that i'm really happy to see. the gamecocks will be back in action friday when they'll play in the quarterfinals of the sec tournament in jacksonville, florida. usc is looking to repeat as the conference tourney champs.

yesterday, hundreds of people gathered in the streets to protest police say the shooting victim was wanted on felony drug charges and ran away from officers trying to arrest him. at some point during the chase, raleigh police confirm one of their officers shot and killed the man. the victim's mother was in tears at the scene as she described what reported witnesses said they saw. "they killed my son for no reason. everybody out here said that he was running, didn't have a gun, trying to jump a fence and the officer shot my son seven times, for what? for nothing." police have not released the shooting victim's name. investigators say a gun was found at the scene. north carolina's state bureau of investigation is handling the case. a ruling by a new york judge in one case could help apple bolster its argument in another. yesterday, the judge ruled that the justice department cannot force apple to give the fbi access to data from a locked iphone in a routine brooklyn drug case. the judge's decision supports

to assist the fbi with accessing the iphone used by one of the shooters in the december massacre in san bernardino. apple's opposition to the government's tactics has evoked a national debate over digital privacy rights and national security. the company's filing to oppose the order by a california magistrate judge is due by friday. a north carolina husband and wife were killed in an explosion at their home sunday night, despite the best efforts of neighbors and an unnamed good samaritan to save them. coleen harry has more on the story. moments after the driver hit the propane tank, chris weaver says he felt no other choice but to run for help. "driver was getting out vehicle on his own, assisted him across the road, could hear the gas line spewing." a couple was inside the house. "i was yelling at her and waving - go out the back of the house. go out the back of the house. she finally heard me. she turned around, made two steps and the house blew up." neighbors say it shook the the flames shot up in the air. "you see explosions on tv. you see the movies. before that there was a lady standing in her doorway." just about the time the explosion boomed, a man drove flames. we go in right after him." head to the polls today in the biggest political showdown of the 2016 presidential election. on the democratic side -- sanders and clinton are vying for 1,032 of the 2,383 delegates needed to win the democratic race. keep in mind- that includes super delegates. right now hillary clinton tops bernie sanders in the latest c-n-n-o-r-c poll 55 percent to 38 percent nationally. and while political analysts think hillary clinton will do very well in the southern states, much like she did here in south carolina, -- they believe bernie sanders will remain in this race. "the most important thing that people have to realize -- many states on the democratic side are not winner take all, meaning that they are proportional. so a candidate can actually win an entire state and be awarded a certain number of delegates for winning the entire state but if senator sanders gets a certain threshold in the state and then a certain threshold in each congressional district, he will win delegates

police say he was shot and killed after a short foot chase near downtown raleigh. police say denkins was wanted on a felony drug charge but did not touch on why the officer shot him. witnesses say denkins was unarmed. police say they found a gun near the man's body. the community is demanding answers. reported ill. the plane landed safely after the fire brigade and ambulances were put on standby. tiger airways said the crew detected an "unusual odor" in the cabin during the descent into melbourne. the airline said that four cabin crew members underwent medical assessments on arrival and were cleared of any health problems. australian air safety investigators and engineers were examining the incident. orangeburg county sheriff's deputies are looking for a norway teen who is wanted on numerous charges including breaking into a home. 18-year-old tyrone fleming faces second- degree burglary charges, is charged for receiving stolen goods and is also wanted on two bench warrants. investigators say according to one warrant, back in september, fleming broke into a home on beason road. the home owner discovered fleming inside. if you know fleming's whereabouts now, you're asked to call 888 crime sc. a sumter man has plead guilty in federal court to attempting to defraud the irs for at least three years. u.s.

republicans in 11 states and donald trump is expected to win big, except for texas where ted cruz is still polling strong. meanwhile, marco rubio is getting g in the mud. this race just getting dirtier and donald trump seems to be able to make coming up on today. nasa astronaut scott kelly is preparing to come back down to earth after nearly a year in space. he's been at the international space station longer than than any other u-s astronaut. kelly's current mission has lasted 340 days. in his last briefing before heading home, kelly told reporters that he is feeling good. once he lands, kelly will undergo a battery of physical and scientific tests. this is his fourth mission in space. four students were hurt after a shooting at an ohio high school monday. police say a 14-year- old student opened fire inside the madison junior-senior high school cafeteria monday morning. two students were shot and two others

the students are expected to be okay. police say the shooter ran from the building and dropped the weapon but was taken into custody near school grounds. police say they do have a motive but are not releasing it at this time. an emotional erin andrews took the stand in nashville monday to testify about the secret nude video taken of her and posted on the internet. andrews broke down in tears at several points during her testimony. the sportscaster says she suffers from depression, panic attacks, and anxiety on a daily basis because of the incident. she says "no one believed" her that she had no idea about the tape. andrews is suing michael barrett - the man who shot the video - and the owner of the nashville marriott for 75-million dollars. toronto entrepreneurs are workign to tackle the world's problem...with a new invention. morgan wyatt, a bio- chemist, and jackson wyatt have come up with a compostable mosquito trap that's already racking up international sales. and their idea comes along just as the world is looking for ways to stop the

the user only needs to add water and the trap mimics the breeding grounds of the pesky insect. right now, the company is looking for clients globally. check out this wild video out of arlington, texas. a driver plows their car into a gas pump-- and it was all caught on tape! the incident happened on monday. in the video, you can see the driver frantically try to free passengers from the car before flames from the gas pump get more intense. firefighters got the flames under control in about two hours. police have not said if anyone was injured or what caused the driver to lose control. google says one of its self-driving vehicles was at least partially responsible for an accident with a city bus. it's the company's first admission that one of its cars played a part in causing a crash. the minor collision took place in google's hometown of mountain view, california. the bus hit the car after it switched lanes unexpectedly. the google car was reportedly traveling at less than two miles per hour, the bus about 15 miles per hour. no one was injured in the

being dubbed "super tuesday." political experts say today could make or break some campaigns -- specifically on the republican side. a total of 595 republican delegates are up for grabs of the 1,237 needed to clinch the gop nomination. a new c-n-n-o-r-c poll today shows donald trump with a sizable lead, getting 49 percent of the republican primary vote followed by marco rubio with 16 percent and ted cruz with 15 percent. a local political expert says today's vote could determine where each candidate stands in the future of this race. "the momentum builds -- it seems to move very quick. and once there's the appearance of someone steamrolling through

officer-involved shooting, monday that left one man dead. hundreds of people gathered last night to protest the killing of 24 year old akiel denkins, pictured here. in a brief news conference, police say he was shot and killed after a short foot chase near downtown raleigh. police say denkins was wanted on a felony drug charge but did not touch on why the officer shot him. witnesses say denkins was unarmed. the victim's mother was in tears on the scene, and is demanding answers from police. "they killed my son for no reason. everybody out here said that he was running, didn't have a gun, trying to jump a fence and the officer shot my son seven times, for what? for nothing." police are giving a different report from witnesses. officers say they found a gun near denkin's body. an investigation will determine who the gun belongs to. police identified the officer who fired the gun as 29-year-old senior officer

we are following a developing story this morning-- one person has died after being found shot in a crashed vehicle in richland county. richland county investigators say shortly after 9:30 last night - a vehicle was found crashed on the 400 block of seton hall drive. the victim was found inside with multiple gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital. the richland county sheriff's department is investigating. fire crews in lugoff are keeping an eye on a series of woods fires that broke out near highway 1 last night. the lugoff fire department says 40 firefighters worked to contain at least 8 separate fires happened near the pepperidge subdivision overnight. they are monitoring the fires through this morning. no structures have been impacted. lugoff fire marshall will catoe says the forestry commission is investigating. orangeburg county sheriff's deputies are looking for a norway teen who is wanted on numerous charges including breaking into a home. 18-year-old tyrone fleming faces second- degree burglary charges, is

the u.s. state department says it has released the final batch of hillary clinton's emails. the last set of emails comes from the 52- thousand messages on hilary clinton's private computer sever. the department has been regularly releasing batches of her work emails in keeping with a judge's order. monday's release of the final 1,700 messages does not end the controversy for clinton. republican rivals in the battle for the november presidential election have cited the email controversy in saying clinton is unfit for the presidency. the secretary-general of nato says the cease-fire in syria is "largely holding," though he remains concerned about the

four students are recovering in ohio after being hurt during a shooting in their cafeteria monday. police say a 14-year- old student opened fire inside madison junior-senior high school. two students were shot and two others were hurt while trying to run away. they're all expected to be okay. the alleged shooter was taken into custody near school grounds. police say they do have a motive

"the momentum builds -- it seems to move very quick. and once there's the appearance of someone steamrolling through these primaries, it becomes over very quickly. and it's very close to that point for donald trump at this point." it's important to note -- that two-thirds of republican votes so far have been toward one of the other four candidates. and political experts say after the more than twelve states vote today -- we will have a better idea of which candidates will still be in the race. defending home turf will be the key today for senator ted cruz. yesterday, the republican candidate campaigned across texas in a bid to win its huge delegate prize. rival donald trump said he thinks he has a very good chance of winning the lone star state. but cruz told reporters in dallas-- he's confident in his texas chances, despite trump's momentum. cruz says a strong texas performance will narrow the gop contest to a two- person race between he and trump. "what he's saying to people isn't true. it doesn't match his record. and yet somehow it's gotten to this point. it's gotten too far. it's called a con job. and we are not going to allow a con artist to take control of the party of lincoln and

rubio also held rallies in super tuesday nominating states of georgia, arkansas, and oklahoma. a bit of wild scene at a trump campaign event monday -- where a photographer is accusing a secret service agent of choking him and slamming him to the ground. time magazine photographer chris morris told cnn he stepped just 18 inches outside the media pen when the agent put his hands around his neck. trump's campaign has not yet commented on the incident. the secret service also says it is aware of the incident and is working with local law enforcement on the matter. on the democratic side-- hillary clinton is hoping her south carolina landslide becomes an even bigger super tuesday victory lap against rival bernie sanders. right now a new national poll has clinton leading sanders by about 17- percent. a strong super tuesday could give her just about all the delegates she needs to wrap up the race. with such a commanding lead, clinton has been shifting her focus from beating sanders to beating republicans-- while sanders has been working to draw big crowds of supporters who support his call for a political

officers' shooting of a 17-year-old boy over the weekend. the group "utah against police brutality" organized the rally on behalf of abdullahi mohamed, who was shot saturday in downtown salt lake. mohamed remains in critical condition after police say he and another person were beating a man with "metal objects." officers say he continued to attack the man after he was ordered to stop, prompting the shooting. an investigation is underway. virginia police officer ashley guindon will be laid to rest today. last night- her body was escorted by dozens of police cars and motorcycles. guindon and two other officers were responding to a domestic violence call when accused shooter ronald hamilton fired his gun and shot all three officers. only guindon died from her injuries. it was her first day on patrol. her funeral service is expected to be held at noon today. a former cab driver accused of

virginia college students is expected to seek a plea deal in the coming days. jesse matthew is accused of abducting and killing 18-year-old hannah graham back in 2014, and 20-year-old morgan harrington back in 2009. prosecutors say they were planning to seek the death penalty if the case went to trial. matthew is already serving three life sentences in a separate case. he was convicted of sexually assaulting a 26- year-old woman back in 2005. a small passenger bus and four fuel pumps were destroyed in a dramatic fire at a san francisco gas station. officials say the bus driver pulled into the station monday after his engine started overheating and smoking. the potential for explosions forced fire crews to retreat to a safe position and douse the bus in water. officials are still trying to figure out if a series of loud booms heard during the fire were from exploding tires or a gas tank.

most of the 300 million dollars congress set aside for flood aid in the federal budget. a northeast richland county artery shut down by last falls floods, is finally open again. spears creek church road was left impassable after an upstream dam ruptured and the spears creek roared over it and washed out a bridge back in october. since then, the road has been closed forcing drivers to detour as crews worked to repair the road over the past several months. monday, dot officials tweeted out the announcement that the road is back open, and traffic is again moving. scdot says the repair will be in place until a separate widening project is started. the time is now . coming up, we'll have one final check of your traffic and weather. plus the headlines of the day. thanks for starting your day
