-- yet have more funding for their elections board. "the fact that greenville county is a much more industrialized county and has a larger tax base and that charleston county is a much more richer county and that kind of thing, it does not negate the fact that we have to run elections in richland county for 265- thousand registered voters, it does not negate the fact that more than 401-thousand people here in this county and we have to be ready when elections come around." the council agrees the department needs more funding. the request passed first reading last night but council asked samuel selph to draft a formal budget before they take a final vote. last night was the first richland county council meeting since the arrest of councilman kelvin washington on dui charges. washington did not attend the meeting. in light of his legal problems, at least one council member has expressed concerns about whether washington can be effective representing

after washington crashed saturday night, two people were taken to the hospital. the incident report says the highway patrol trooper who responded smelled a strong odor of alcohol on washington and in his car. last night, council members opened their meeting by praying for the victims. "we're deeply concerned about the victims involved in this process, involved in this crash and we're just waiting for out law enforcement agencies to do what they're responsible for doing. if convicted, washington faces a 51-hundred dollar fine and up to 15 years in prison. there's still no word on whether he'll maintain his seat on council. the longtime chief of cayce's department of public safety is announcing his retirement. yesterday, chief charles mcnair said he will step down after nearly 16 years with the department. mcnair is a cayce native, who served with various law enforcement agencies throughout his career, including south carolina highway patrol, and sled. he will officially retire on may 1st. columbia police may have cracked a more than 2- year-old murder case and they

suspect locked up. yesterday, police said they've charged charles byrd junior with murder for the shooting death of a man on bailey street in november of 2013. investigators say byrd shot and killed willie gilmore after an argument at a home there. byrd was already being held at the alvin s. glenn detention center on murder charges for a separate shooting in 2014. a gaston home burned to the ground yesterday evening...leaving nothing behind but a few beams. the homeowner tells wis she was napping on her couch at the home on stapleford court when her mother woke her, alerting her to the fire. they were able to escape just in time with their pets and a cellphone. while officials have not confirmed how the fire started, the family believes it started on the back porch. the family is now being helped by the red cross and neighbors. after a long day in the senate chambers yesterday--senators were unable again to take up a bill to fund state roads. will whitson explains, it was another unrelated bill that put roads on hold. state senator gerald malloy took the podium earlier today- blocking a vote

southwest ohio school district just two days after authorities say a 14-year- old boy shot students in a school cafeteria. madison local schools officials say staff members will ride on buses wednesday morning and be outside the school complex to welcome students back. nearly 16-hundred students from pre-k through grade 12 attend the schools just west of middletown. officials say crisis counselors will be on hand and extra staffers will join students for lunch in the cafeteria where the shootings occurred. authorities say two students were shot on monday and two others hurt. the 14-year-old shooting suspect remains in juvenile detention after denying charges in a brief juvenile court hearing earlier tuesday. seven appears to be the big number for democratic

to call it quits. carson has not won any primaries or caucuses so far-- including any of the super tuesday races. a cnn/orc poll shows he only has 10 percent support among republican voters. despite this, the retired neurosurgeon says he's saying in the presidential race. "they have weaved such a complex web, it will be very very difficult to untangle it, but i'm not ready to quit trying to untangle it yet." carson also says he's tired of his challengers throwing around personal attacks. ahead of tomorrow night's fox news debate in detroit -- he says he plans on calling each of his fellow party candidates to make a plea to bury the hatchet, and focus solely on the issues. the gop candidates will meet tomorrow night at the fox theater in detroit for their debate. it airs at 9. hillary clinton and bernie sanders are set to go one-on-one in a cnn debate this weekend. it's happening sunday, march 6th at 8pm in flint, michigan. coming off of two primaries in south carolina the head of the richland county voter

says the board needs more money. board members are requesting million dollars be added to their annual budget, which is nearly double their budget now. tuesday night, director samuel selph says the board is not financially prepared to run all the elections in the county next year, which is a state mandate. he says money is needed to purchase new machines, repair current ones and to hire a technician. selph also made the argument that other counties have a smaller population than richland -- yet have more funding for their elections board. "the fact that greenville county is a much more industrialized county and has a larger tax base and that charleston county is a much more richer county and that kind of thing, it does not negate the fact that we have to run elections in richland county for 265- thousand registered voters, it does not negate the fact that more people here in this county and we have to be ready when elections come around." the council agrees the department needs more funding. the request passed first reading last night but council asked samuel selph to the request passed first reading

just into the alert center this morning... at least 4 people are hurt after a possible tornado swept through alabama late tuesday. some of the hardest hit areas - are southwest of birgmingham where the national weather service confirmed a radar- indicated tornado tuesday evening. in the video you can see some of the aftermath. trees down, cars damaged, and homes leveled by the strong storm. dozens of homes sufered damage, at least 8 of those were severely damaged. it wasn't the clean sweep some thought was possible, but donald trump scored seven super tuesday wins -- massachusetts, virginia, tennessee, alabama, georgia, arkansas and vermont. despite his wins -- trump

"if we nominate donald trump it will be the end of the modern republican party. hillary clinton will smoke him in the general election and the next 4 years are going to be no different than the last 8 for like donald trump." the florida primary is march 15th. polls in florida currently show donald trump leading among republican voters. on the democratic side -- hillary clinton closed in on her party's presidential nomination by racking up some big wins. she rode her support among african-american voters on a southern sweep. clinton is the projected winner

"i believe deeply, that if we resist the forces trying to drive us apart we can't come together to make this country work for everyone the struggling, the striving and the successful. if we all do our part, we can restore our common faith in our common future. that's the spirit powering this campaign." bernie sanders was able to score a victory in his home state of vermont. he also won in oklahoma, colorado and minnesota.

senator ted cruz meanwhile, had to have a win in his home state of texas--he picks up that win, and another win in oklahoma. and overnight it was announced he is the projected winner of alaska -- 36 percent, with donald trump at 34 percent and marco rubio at 15 percent. cruz spoke last night -- calling on his opponents who have no yet won any states to step down and form a united front against frontrunner donald trump. ted cruz: "tonight was another decision point and the voters have spoken . tomorrow morning we have a choice, so long as the field remains divided, donald trump's path to the nomination remains more likely and that would be a disaster." and florida senator, marco rubio picks up his first win in the primary

marco rubio picks up his first win in the primary contests winning overall votes in minnesota. rubio laughed off suggestions that he drop out of the presidential race should he not win any states on tuesday. donald trump made that suggestion yesterday and was echoed by ted cruz. but rubio told supporters that he will campaign as long as it takes to deny trump the delegates he needs to win the republican nomination. mary? while there were no projected victories for john kasich, the ohio governor says he was pleased with his super tuesday campaign results. kasich placed second in the state of vermont just three points behind donald trumum kasich says he believes his campaign exceeded expectations in the vermont contest. he's looking forward to securing a win in his home state of ohio which holds it's primary on tuesday, march 15th. republican candidate ben carson says he's not ready to call it quits. carson has not won any primaries or caucuses so far. a cnn/orc poll shows he only has 10 percent support among republican voters. despite this, the retired neurosurgeon says he's

woman in virginia. he could face the death penalty if convicted - but under the plea deal - his life would be spared. both graham and harrington's family support the plea agreement matthew's hearing is scheduled for later this afternoon. coming off of two primaries in south carolina the head of the richland county voter registration and elections board says the board needs more money. board members are requesting roughly 1.2 million dollars be added to their annual budget, which is nearly double their budget now. tuesday night, director samuel selph says the board is not financially prepared to run all the elections in the county next year, which is a state mandate. he says money is needed to purchase new machines, repair current ones and to hire a technician. selph also made the argument thatatther counties have a smaller population than richland -- yet have more funding for their elections board. "the fact that greenville county is a much more industrialized county and has a larger tax base and that charleston county is a much

classes are expected to resume this morning in a southwest ohio school district just two days after authorities say a teen shot students in a school cafeteria. madison local schools officials say staff members will ride on buses wednesday morning and be outside the school complex to welcome students back. nearly 16-hundred students from pre-k through grade 12 attend the schools just west of middletown. officials say crisis counselors will be on hand and extra staffers will join students for lunch in the cafeteria where the shootings occurred. authorities say two students were shot on monday and two others hurt. the 14-year-old shooting suspect remains in juvenile detention after denying charges in a brief juvenile court hearing earlier tuesday. family, friends and law enforcement members gathered to mourn the death of a virginia police officer who was shot and killed on her first day on the job. 28-year-old ashley guindon was shot and
