some major victories scored for 2016 presidential frontrunners -- democrat hillary clinton, and republican donald trump. both candidates are the projected winners in 7 states in the super tuesday contests. here's a look at the break down of super tuesday wins. donald trump takes alabama, arkansas, massachusetts, tennessee, georgia, virginia and vermont. overnight -- ted cruz picked up a win in the alaska gop caucus. he also won his home state of texas, and took oklahoma. and florida senator, marco rubio picks up his first win in the primary contests winning overall votes in minnesota. for the democrats -- hillary clinton is the projected winner in texas, alabama, arkansas, tennessee, georgia, virginia, and now massachusetts where she nearly tied with bernie

her challenger bernie sanders picks up a win in his home state of vermont tonight. he also picks up oklahoma, colorado and minnesota. though trump and clinton left super tuesday as bit winners, they still face competition from within their own parties as the presidential nomination race moves forward. here's mary maloney. a confident donald trump telling the republican establishment to accept him as the nominee. presidential candidate : "i am a unifier. once we get all this finished, i am going after one person - that's hillary clinton." presidential candidate : "what a super tuesday!" hillary clinton winning a handful of states early. her campaign moving past the primaries -- and focusing on trump. presidential candidate : "instead of building walls, we are going to break down barriers."

but bernie sanders - not out of the race. "feel the bern. feel the bern." picking up his home state of vermont -- and wins in oklahoma -- minnesota -- about transforming america." marco rubio winning his first haul presidential candidate : "when i am president of the united states, we will not just save the american dream, we will it to reach more people than ever." after big wins in texas and oklahoma -- ted cruz says it's time for other republicans to rally around him -- to beat trump. presidential candidate : "as long as the field remains divided, donald trump's path to the nomination likely. and that would be a disaster for republicans, for conservatives and for the nation." but ben carson isn't worried about his poor showing. and says despite the complicated process - he's not dropping out. presidential candidate : "they have weaved such a complex web, it will be very very difficult to untangle

trying to untangle it yet." i'm mary moloney reporting. candidates in both races are now looking at victories beyond super tuesday. the gop candidates will meet tomorrow night for a debate at the fox theater in detroit. it airs at 9. on the democratic side -- hillary clinton and bernie sanders are set to go one-on-one in a cnn debate this weekend. it's happening sunday, march 6th at 8pm in flint, michigan. coming off of two primaries in south carolina the head of the richland county voter registration and elections board says the board needs more money. board members are requesting roughly 1.2 million dollars be added to their annual budget, which is nearly double their budget now. tuesday night, director samuel selph says the board is not financially prepared to run all the elections in the county next year, which is a state mandate. he says money is needed to purchase new machines, repair current ones and to hire a technician. selph also made the argument that other counties have a smaller

-- yet have more funding for their elections board. "the fact that greenville county is a much more industrialized county and has a larger tax base and that charleston county is a much more richer county and that kind of thing, it does not negate the fact that we have to run elections in richland county for 265- thousand registered voters, it does not negate the fact that more than 401-thousand people here in this county and we have to be ready when elections come around." the council agrees the department needs more funding. the request passed first reading last night but council asked samuel selph to draft a formal budget before they take a final vote. last night was the first richland county council meeting since the arrest of councilman kelvin washington on dui charges. washington did not attend the meeting. in light of his legal problems, at least one council member has expressed concerns about whether washington can be effective representing

after washington crashed saturday night, two people were taken to the hospital. the incident report says the highway patrol trooper who responded smelled a strong odor of alcohol on washington and in his car. last night, council members opened their meeting by praying for the victims. "we're deeply concerned about the victims involved in this process, involved in this crash and we're just waiting for out law enforcement agencies to do what they're responsible for doing. if convicted, washington faces a 51-hundred dollar fine and up to 15 years in prison. there's still no word on whether he'll maintain his seat on council. the longtime chief of cayce's department of public safety is announcing his retirement. yesterday, chief charles mcnair said he will step down after nearly 16 years with the department. mcnair is a cayce native, who served with various law enforcement agencies throughout his career, including south carolina highway patrol, and sled. he will officially retire on may 1st. columbia police may have cracked a more than 2- year-old murder case and they

suspect locked up. yesterday, police said they've charged charles byrd junior with murder for the shooting death of a man on bailey street in november of 2013. investigators say byrd shot and killed willie gilmore after an argument at a home there. byrd was already being held at the alvin s. glenn detention center on murder charges for a separate shooting in 2014. a gaston home burned to the ground yesterday evening...leaving nothing behind but a few beams. the homeowner tells wis she was napping on her couch at the home on stapleford court when her mother woke her, alerting her to the fire. they were able to escape just in time with their pets and a cellphone. while officials have not confirmed how the fire started, the family believes it started on the back porch. the family is now being helped by the red cross and neighbors. after a long day in the senate chambers yesterday--senators were unable again to take up a bill to fund state roads. will whitson explains, it was another unrelated bill that put roads on hold. state senator gerald malloy took the podium earlier today- blocking a vote

instead on peanut's law- a law about road construction zone safety- in doing so, keeping lawmakers from discussing roads at all. the senate purposely started early today to get the roads filibuster started early- a filibuster here in the state senate is a little different than what you see in washington- the body can adjourn for the day, and they can discuss and vote on other bills- which is where peanut's law comes into place. senator malloy jumped in and began the filibuster- and held it until just about an hour ago, speaking about the failure to pass roads- and in doing so, keeping the senate from even discussing the bill. darlington "we don't want to raise the taxes! we don't want to have the discussion! we've got all these amendments on the desk and no real way to get there." now- other democratic lawmakers are on the floor- still filibustering

lawmakers are only really talking about roads- also saying today, which was supposed to be all about roads, has been a waste of time. live, ww wis news 10 also yesterday, the longest-serving lawmaker in the south carolina house of representatives announced he won't seek re-election in november. democrat grady brown has served in the house for lee, kershaw, and sumter counties since 1985. he was surrounded by several of his colleagues in the house and senate to announce his farewell. "the job is no bigger than you, lot of people come up here and say i'm a house member, i'm a senator, i can do what i very long." brown said he would serve out the rest of his term--but acknowledged there are younger people interested in running for his seat

"it was pretty exciting knowing that i made it." josselyn trejo is a senior smithfield selma high school and actively involved in j- r-o-t-c. she's used to hitting the books, but soon she'll be hitting the ground running... with the u.s.

"i was already interested in the younger. so, this opportunity came up and i took it." and that opportunity... her dream job as a combat engineer... only became available to women days before she walked in the army recruiting office. "the u.s. army opened up the position because of an ongoing campaign to dismantle, in phases, policies that have barred women from serving in combat units below the brigade level." "the army is focused on putting the right people in the right places at the right times, regardless of gender." the u.s. army offers over 150 different jobs, but trejo's recruiter says he made a point not to tell her that she could be one of the first women in the position, until he knew what she really wanted.

including a possible tornado that left a significant amount of damage in one area of alabama. we're tracking the latest in the alert center. it's wednesday, march second. and news 10 sunrise starts right now. good morning. sunrise. i'm mary king. i'm michal higdon. len kiese has the morning off it's five o'clock on this wednesday, march second. donald trump and hillary clinton are both looking ahead after sweeping super tuesday wins. both candidates won seven states in the primaries and caucuses indicating their campaigns are gaining major momentum as potential party nominees. trump however lost a big prize -- texas, which has the highest delegate count of the super tuesday contests. senator ted cruz secure that victory in his home state. new overnight -- cruz has secured another super tuesday victory. he's now the projected winner of the republican caucus in alaska.

homes leveled by the strong storm. dozens of homes sufered damage, at least 8 of those were severely damaged. donald trump is flying high this morning after a big win in super tuesday primary contests. he scored victories in massachusetts, virginia, tennessee, alabama, georgia, arkansas and vermont. despite his wins -- trump decided not to hold a victory rally. instead he invited reporters to his palm beach estate in florida for brief remarks. trump told the republican establishment to accept him as a possible nominee. presidential candidate if i'm going to win all of these states with these tremendous numbers and if i'm going to come in the worst 2nd in the 2 or 3 i might not win. i think we're a democracy. i think it's awfully hard to say that's not the person we want to lead the party. at last check-- trump secured 292 delegates with his super tuesday wins. gop sources tell nbc news-- there is concern about how trump will cooperate within the republican party and whether or not they say--

losers and act more presidential. senator ted cruz meanwhile, had to have a win in his home state of texas--he picks up that win, and two more wins in oklahoma and alaska.. cruz says his victories are an indication for republicans to rally around him to beat trump. we'll hear more from him in our next half hour. meanwhile, marco rubio is struggling to keep his momentum alive in the republican race. rubio won one state on super tuesday-- minnesota. rubio's super pac is now spending millions of dollars in florida ahead of the state's primary. rubio and ted cruz are both competing to the face of the anti-trump effort among republicans. rubio spoke out-- saying he will continue to fight against donald trump winning the party's nomination. "if we nominate donald trump it will be the end of the modern republican party. hillary clinton will smoke him in the general election and the next 4 years are going to be no different republican party from someone like donald trump."

pop-up may appear on your computer-- asking you to click a link to clean your computer. the link has software that can lock your operating system. authorities say you'll be asked to make a call to a company that can unlock it -- but they say that's a scam and they're after your personal information and money. if you see this type of link, you should not click. lexington county deputies need your help finding three suspects accused of using counterfeit money at a midlands store. this is surveillance video of the suspects from saturday night, when investigators say they used fake 100 dollar bills to buy pre-paid credit cards at the dollar general on pond branch road in leesville. the third suspect was caught and told the money would not be accepted -- ran out to a car with the other two. deputies say earlier that day they did the same thing at the dollar general on edmund highway. if you can identify them, call crimestoppers. four men have been arrested as part of a multi-agency effort to crack down on auto break-ins. here's the mug shots of the suspects -- who have all been charged with multiple

australian child abucardinal george pell delivered a testimony earlier this week. the third day of that testimony wrapped up this morning. pell, was previously the archbishop of both melbourne and sydney. he is being questioned by an australian royal commission over what he knew about sex abuse by priests in australia. pell said he would be happy to meet with survivors of sexual abuse within the catholic church. representative for the survivors said a meeting with pope fr columbia police may have cracked a more than 2- year-old murder case and they already have their suspect locked up. police have charged charles byrd junior with murder for the shooting death of a man on bailey street in november 2013. investigators say byrd shot and killed willie gilmore after an argument at a home there. byrd was already being held at the alvin s. glenn detention center on murder charges for a separate shooting in 2014. the red cross is working to help one gaston family

southwest ohio school district just two days after authorities say a 14-year- old boy shot students in a school cafeteria. madison local schools officials say staff members will ride on buses wednesday morning and be outside the school complex to welcome students back. nearly 16-hundred students from pre-k through grade 12 attend the schools just west of middletown. officials say crisis counselors will be on hand and extra staffers will join students for lunch in the cafeteria where the shootings occurred. authorities say two students were shot on monday and two others hurt. the 14-year-old shooting suspect remains in juvenile detention after denying charges in a brief juvenile court hearing earlier tuesday. seven appears to be the big number for democratic

says the board needs more money. board members are requesting million dollars be added to their annual budget, which is nearly double their budget now. tuesday night, director samuel selph says the board is not financially prepared to run all the elections in the county next year, which is a state mandate. he says money is needed to purchase new machines, repair current ones and to hire a technician. selph also made the argument that other counties have a smaller population than richland -- yet have more funding for their elections board. "the fact that greenville county is a much more industrialized county and has a larger tax base and that charleston county is a much more richer county and that kind of thing, it does not negate the fact that we have to run elections in richland county for 265- thousand registered voters, it does not negate the fact that more people here in this county and we have to be ready when elections come around." the council agrees the department needs more funding. the request passed first reading last night but council asked samuel selph to the request passed first reading

just into the alert center this morning... at least 4 people are hurt after a possible tornado swept through alabama late tuesday. some of the hardest hit areas - are southwest of birgmingham where the national weather service confirmed a radar- indicated tornado tuesday evening. in the video you can see some of the aftermath. trees down, cars damaged, and homes leveled by the strong storm. dozens of homes sufered damage, at least 8 of those were severely damaged. it wasn't the clean sweep some thought was possible, but donald trump scored seven super tuesday wins -- massachusetts, virginia, tennessee, alabama, georgia, arkansas and vermont. despite his wins -- trump

jersey just about an hour ago, after concerns of severe weather and a norovirus outbreak forced the luxury liner to cut its journey short. the royal caribbean ship is carrying more than six thousand people. this is the second trip by anthem of the seas cut short this year. in early february, passengers aboard the ship experienced a wild ride when the captain took the ship directly into a storm that produced waves up to 30 feet high. a kidnapping suspect who led california police on a chase monday has been arrested. thomas ueno was arrested late tuesday after managing to evade police through the night. police say he kidnapped his ex girlfriend and her two children monday -- and freed them before abandoning his vehicle. track him down that night -- but he was taken yesterday. two people are dead after a car crashed into a restaurant massachusetts. area hospitals, and at least three are listed in serious to critical condition. investigators say the driver of the car survived. accident reconstruction teams are on site trying to figure out how it all

senator ted cruz meanwhile, had to have a win in his home state of texas--he picks up that win, and another win in oklahoma. and overnight it was announced he is the projected winner of alaska -- 36 percent, with donald trump at 34 percent and marco rubio at 15 percent. cruz spoke last night -- calling on his opponents who have no yet won any states to step down and form a united front against frontrunner donald trump. ted cruz: "tonight was another decision point and the voters have spoken . tomorrow morning we have a choice, so long as the field remains divided, donald trump's path to the nomination remains more likely and that would be a disaster." and florida senator, marco rubio picks up his first win in the primary

marco rubio picks up his first win in the primary contests winning overall votes in minnesota. rubio laughed off suggestions that he drop out of the presidential race should he not win any states on tuesday. donald trump made that suggestion yesterday and was echoed by ted cruz. but rubio told supporters that he will campaign as long as it takes to deny trump the delegates he needs to win the republican nomination. mary? while there were no projected victories for john kasich, the ohio governor says he was pleased with his super tuesday campaign results. kasich placed second in the state of vermont just three points behind donald trumum kasich says he believes his campaign exceeded expectations in the vermont contest. he's looking forward to securing a win in his home state of ohio which holds it's primary on tuesday, march 15th. republican candidate ben carson says he's not ready to call it quits. carson has not won any primaries or caucuses so far. a cnn/orc poll shows he only has 10 percent support among republican voters. despite this, the retired neurosurgeon says he's

woman in virginia. he could face the death penalty if convicted - but under the plea deal - his life would be spared. both graham and harrington's family support the plea agreement matthew's hearing is scheduled for later this afternoon. coming off of two primaries in south carolina the head of the richland county voter registration and elections board says the board needs more money. board members are requesting roughly 1.2 million dollars be added to their annual budget, which is nearly double their budget now. tuesday night, director samuel selph says the board is not financially prepared to run all the elections in the county next year, which is a state mandate. he says money is needed to purchase new machines, repair current ones and to hire a technician. selph also made the argument thatatther counties have a smaller population than richland -- yet have more funding for their elections board. "the fact that greenville county is a much more industrialized county and has a larger tax base and that charleston county is a much

classes are expected to resume this morning in a southwest ohio school district just two days after authorities say a teen shot students in a school cafeteria. madison local schools officials say staff members will ride on buses wednesday morning and be outside the school complex to welcome students back. nearly 16-hundred students from pre-k through grade 12 attend the schools just west of middletown. officials say crisis counselors will be on hand and extra staffers will join students for lunch in the cafeteria where the shootings occurred. authorities say two students were shot on monday and two others hurt. the 14-year-old shooting suspect remains in juvenile detention after denying charges in a brief juvenile court hearing earlier tuesday. family, friends and law enforcement members gathered to mourn the death of a virginia police officer who was shot and killed on her first day on the job. 28-year-old ashley guindon was shot and
