tacoma, washington officer is dead after being shot multiple times. and a standoff is still taking place with the suspect early this morning. angelica joins us from the newsroom with the latest. the officer was responding to a domestic violence call last night when he was shot. the scene remains an active situation...and the neighborhood remains on lockdown. police believe the shooter is still barricaded in a home. several people -- including children were able to get out of the house following the shoo last night -- a procession of law enforcement officers escorted the officer's body from the hospital to the medical examiner's office. the officer has not been identified... we do know he was 45-years old and was a 17-year veteran of the tacoma police force. wisconsins statewide presidential recount begins at 9 this morning. the ballots are boxed up...and have been under tight security all night... deandra corinthios is live from the election commission

for a recount of more than 440 thousand ballots... this can be done by hand but will likely be done with the use of optical scanners ...which the clerk says will speed up the process... the recount results for the whole state will have to be certified and completed by december 12th. a judge denied former green party presidential candidate jill steins request to force a state hand recount earlier this week. 48 counties, however, will opt to process the recount by hand:... including counties. 14 will use optical scanners... like milwaukee, waukesha and sheboygan. 10 will use both - like walworth county. the ballots for milwaukee county were transported from the county courthouse yesterday...and were under lock and key overnight.. while the final decision will be made early this morning by the board of canvassers, the county election commission recommends the recount be done by machine. it wouldve been much more difficult and much more labor-intensive, much more

in our area, costs for the recount range from 36-thousand in sheboygan county... to more than a half million in milwaukee county. the total...around 4 million for wisconsin will be paid for by stein's campaign coming up at six what role volunteers are playing in the election recount. reporting live in milwaukee dc fox6 news. the stein campaign will not be appealing the dane county judge's ruling allowing county clerks to use voting machines. presidential candidate jill stein is still urging clerks to do a hand count. the lead elections administrator called it "good news" that stein had dropped her legal challenge because it will give clerks certainty. elections administrators say that some clerks are miffed that the recount comes at the request of green party candidate jill stein, who got just one percent of the vote. while stein is dropping her legal challenge here... she has formally requested a full hand recount of the presidential vote in michigan as well.

crash and one man's arrest overnight. officers were called to shots fired near 89th and mill around 3 this morning. witnesses told police the shooting came from a white suv. while officers were investigating, they saw a white suv speed off. police didn't chase after the car, but the driver lost control and crashed into a tree near 95-th and allyn around 3-30. the suspect is being treated for non-life threatening injuries and is in custody. investigators say the driver was a wanted felon, and recovered a starting today-- milwaukee is launching a program where people can mail un-used prescription drugs in an envelope for free. they'll be able to pick up the envelopes at local c-v-s stores. this comes after new numbers show milwaukee county is on pace for its deadliest year ever for opioid deaths. the milwaukee county medical examiner says 217 people have died from opioid deaths so far this year, with 55 additional deaths pending

find anything. police say case will be referred to the district attorney's office for possible charges. meanwhile, in germantown-- police evacuate a "gehl gail foods warehouse" yesterday. they got a call from an employee who reported someone may have entered the building with a possible explosive device. it took about 2 and a half hours for the police and the milwaukee' county sheriff's office to give the all clear. later today -- a rally will be held outside the wells fargo bank downtown -- protesting the dakota access this is video from a similar protest held last month. the demonstrators are critical of the bank's investment in the nearly 2- thousand mile long oil pipeline. then -- at 5 pm the group will march to the federal court house and demand president obama and the army corps of engineers withdraw their eviction order for the camp.. meanwhile - the frigid north dakota cold hasn't stopped thousands of protesters from camping outside to halt construction of the pipeline.
