officer has been shot and killed by police. two children were rescued from the home. the tacoma officer was responding to a domestic violence call when he was shot multiple times.... the shooter was barricaded inside a home for several hours. the fallen officer has not been identified but was a 17-year veteran of the tacoma police force.. we will continue to update you as we learn more. we're just a few hours away from the start of the presidential recount clerks... election officials and volunteers... say they're prepared. we have team coverage - with angelica duria tracking allegations that the recount is illegal. but first... let's start with deandra corinthios... who's live on milwaukee's south side...from the city's election commission warehouse. all of the ballots for milwaukee county have been moved to this location... they're under lock and key...and guarded...until 9 am...when the

transported from the milwaukee county courthouse to the election commission warehouse. the recount effort in milwaukee county involves more than 440-thousand ballots all together. the final decision will be made this morning by the board of canvassers, the county election commission recommends the recount be done by machine. 14 counties will use optical scanners for the recount...including waukesha and sheboygan counties 48 counties will recount the vote kenosha counties. 10 will use both - like walworth county. in our area, costs range from 36- thousand in sheboygan county... to more than a half million in milwaukee county. for milwaukee county... were not anticipating there will be a wide variance in the

going to see a change in the outcome of the winner of the election in wisconsin. the recount results will have to be certified and completed by december 12th. former green party candidate jill stein's campaign will foot the bill. reporting live in milwaukee dc fox6 news. a wisconsin conservative group claims the recount is illegal. newsroom... and angelica... the dispute's over whether something could have occured? the president of the wisconsin institute for law and liberty says the stein campaign must claim there is a reason a mistake did occur... and that it's not about whether a mistake could have occurred. 'if there is any real world consequence of it is it might put at risk our ability to have our votes counted in the electoral college because the

it doesnt happen.' rick esenburg says if this recount interferes with the casting of wisconsin's electoral votes ---the group plans to get involved. but he would not get into details. new information... about the suspects arrested in connection to the death of a 7-year-old. this isn't the first time one of them has been accused of child abuse that led to death. four people were arrested in connection to the boy's death - and two women. we are told the two women arrested met in prison... where one of them was locked up for her role in a 2003 child neglect case that resulted in death. according to that criminal complaint, 1-year-old bryan alston was found dead inside the suspect's home. now, thirteen years later... neighbors say they are disturbed by what happened to the 7 year old child. 58:53 its just terrible. it really is. 58:36 this is all going on right underneath our nose and we dont even know it. a source tells fox6 the 7 year

in san jose. this comes after plice recaptured laron campbell tuesday night. chavez... campbell... and two other prisoners escaped by cutting through bars and rappelling on a bedsheet rope last week. the other two were quickly caught. across america - protests are now underway in charlotte... after prosecutors say the officer who fatally shot keith lamont scott will not be charged. 43-year old scott was shot and killed by officer brentley vinson outside an apartment complex on september officers say scott exited his vehicle while carrying a handgun. the d-a says "all the credible evidence" leads to the conclusion scott was armed. his d-n-a was on the grip of a gun found at the scene, the death toll rises in gatlinburg, tennessee... after a dozen wildfires ripped through the resort town. police now confirming 7 deaths... as search and rescue teams continue to search burned neighborhoods for others who are missing. yesterday morning -- storms dropped some much-needed

traffic check red on traffic map = major delays yellow on traffic map = some delays green on traffic map = no delays happening today: president-elect donald trump and his vice president elect mike pence will travel to indiana... to unveil an agreement to keep a thousand manufacturing jobs in the hoosier state. angelica's in studio with a look at what we know so far about the deal with carrier. carrier, an air-conditioning company, had planned on moving production south of the border. but the company says it cut a deal with trump to keep the jobs at home. about 14-hundred carrier employees were expecting to

mexico next year. a union representing the workers says moving the jobs would save the company 65-million dollars in labor costs. republican indiana senator dan coats says mr. trump's deal is a good sign... but not everyone's impressed. i think a lot of people are reassured that there's a president here who's going to look out for their well-being and their family's well-being so it is hugely impactful - much beyond i think the thousand which we're really grateful for in indiana. "if he is successful in doing that 804 more times, then he will meet the record of manufacturing jobs that states while president obama was in office." carrier says it was able to save the jobs... thanks to incentives offered by the state. no word yet on what those incentives are. anchors chat/toss to rob

been infected by hackers. the malware came from apps that were not downloaded through google play - the authorized app store. the malware installs malicious advertising software that tracks users... installs more apps... and then falsely inflates their ratings through your phone. google says it has blocked 150- thousand versions of the cyberattack. it's warning consumers to stay away from uncertified apps. a new netflix feature will allow subscribers to download media free. this means you can finally keep up with the binge watching from anywhere! just make sure you have the latest version of netflix to show the "download" button "netflix original" shows are available for the new feature while many other shows and movies will be ready soon. u-w green bay... now sending college acceptance letters... using snapchat! students still get the traditional packets in the mail... but now... u-w green

is over after a police shot and killed a suspect... accused of gunning down a tacoma officer overnight. the officer was responding to a domestic violence call when he was shot multiple times. he died at the hospital. police had been in a standoff with the suspect since last night... and then within the last hour police confirm the suspected gunman was killed... the officer who died was a 17-year veteran of the tacoma police force... his name has not yet been released. our big story this morning. ready to begin the election recount in three hours. we have have live team coverage. angelica duria's following the stein campaign's responding to a judge's decision. but first... let's start with deandra corinthios... live from the election commission warehouse where ballots will be recounted today. milwaukee county is preparing for a recount of more than 440 thousand ballots... this can be done by hand but will likely be done with the use of optical scanners ...which the clerk says

the total...around 4 million for wisconsin will be paid for by stein's campaign coming up at six what role volunteers are playing in the election recount. reporting live in milwaukee dc fox6 news. the stein campaign will not be appealing the dane county judge's ruling allowing county clerks to use voting machines. but former green party presidential candidate jill stein is still urging clerks to do a hand count. angelica has more details in the newsroom. the wisconsin elections commission is reiterating... clerks count by hand. the lead elections administrator called it "good news" that stein had dropped her legal challenge because it will give clerks certainty. elections administrators say that some clerks are miffed that the recount comes at the request of green party candidate jill stein, who got just one percent of the vote. the communication weve had from clerks has not been frantic or panicky, as i've said theres been some frustration over whether or not

legal challenge here... she has formally requested a full hand recount of the presidential vote in michigan as well. as it stands, president-elect donald trump beat hillary clinton by a little less than 11-thousand votes in michigan. stein had to pay 973-thousand dollars in order to file for the recount... but taxpayers will pay for whatever that doesn't cover. that recount could start as eary challenge from the president-elect could delay it. as you can see... officials in madison and milwaukee had a lot to say about the recount. you can listen to the teleconferences in both cities by heading to fox6 now dot com or checking our app - the links are on our home pages. starting today-- milwaukee is launching a program where people can mail un-used prescription drugs in an envelope for free. those envelopes are available at

show milwaukee county is on pace for its deadliest year ever for opioid deaths. the milwaukee county medical examiner says 217 people have died from opioid deaths so far this year, with 55 additional deaths pending toxicology. that likely means last year's record of 231 deaths will be shattered. alderman michael murphy says efforts to slow the epidemic have failed. today, he will introduce legislation to create a city-county heroin and opioid task force. the task force is going to bring together law enforcement, me providers and addicts themselves to give us a better perspective about how we can change this course. the task force is expected to go up for a vote today. a 19-year-old faces federal charges for robbing a mailman delivering two boxes on milwaukee's east side... daryl walter also faces charges for assaulting a government employee. a criminal complaint states he

the holiday floral show. the domes closed to the public back in february after a piece of concrete fell. the domes completely reopened to the public in october. also happening today: the milwaukee county transit system will keep one seat open on every bus...and headlights shining on its entire fleet... to honor the life of rosa parks. the civil rights pioneer was arrested on december 1st, 1955... after refusing to give up her seat to a white man in montgomery, landmark u-s supreme court ruling... outlawing segregation on public transportation. and there may not be any snow on the ground yet... but winter parking rules take effect today. most residential streets will require alternate side night parking. .. and no overnight parking will be allowed on major arterial streets and bus routes. some streets may not have any "no parking" signs posted, so you'll have to check online to see the street's rules. the department of public works offers an email and text

cheating husband - or was-band... as her friends call him - with a little help from go-fund-me. in the midst of her divorce... heather lost her one treasured designer item - a burberry scarf... which her ex, joe, gave to his mistress. so... her friends started a go fund me account to replace it so she could "rock that scarf like the boss that she is." she needed 500... but in just three days... she's been given double that! one of the women c the go-fund-me called it the "sisterhood of the scarf." heather's friends say the extra money will go toward a girls weekend in mexico. a free hug... nearly came at a pretty steep price. for roughly a year... this guy has been giving hugs out to random strangers in montreal for free. but... when he tried to share the love with a police officer... the officer asked for his permit. he didn't have one... so he wound up with a 101 dollar ticket. the problem: the hugs were happening inside a train station there. so... the guy took his business
