hospital on tuesday...and was suffering from numerous injuries and died a few hours later. 44-year-old etter hughes and 47-year- old mary martinez were arrested. according to the criminal complaint...doctors say the boy was malnourished..and that severe abuse and neglect led to his death. hughes also had a 9-year-old boy with her at the hospital. that child was also diagnosed with malnutrition and abuse. the children and hughes were staying matters worse, in 2003 hughes was convicted of beating a one-year-old to death in her home. she served 18 months. both women face decades in prison if convicted. after a prolonged start on thursday -- county clerk kathleen novack feels the waukesha recount is now on track. to keep things moving--the county is now using 16 machines. that's four more than what they started with. they are also hand-counting write in ballots. she says a

devastating fire in oakland, california may have taken the lives of as many as 40 people. the fire broke out late firday night during a party at a two-story warehouse. at least 9 people are confirmed dead -- and around two dozen are unaccounted for. fire officials say most of the dead were found up on the second floor. officials say people on the second floor would've had trouble getting out, because the only stairway leading to the first floor was madef chief teresa deloach-reed / oakland fire dept.
