been achieved. fox6s bret lemoine is live outside the waukesha county courthouse with an update. waukesha county is now processing ballots cast in the city of waukesha... which is a big deal... because thats where a huge chunk of votes were cast on election day. its been a non-stop effort since the recount began 6 days ago. and as workers continue processing votes in waukesha county... an benchmark is achieved. kn 'weve actually started the city of waukesha!' county clerk kathleen novack says... after a slow start processing towns and cities first... workers are now making a dent in the largest city - waukesha. crews have been preforming the recount every day from 9 in the morning until midnight. as of wednesday, that will change: kn 'were going to close up tomorrow at 10pm. we are really doing well. my conservative estimate is well be done close of business friday.' novack says theyre

for one big reason: this high speed ballot-counting machine arrived on monday. it can count 5-thousand ballots per hour! other milestones achieved statewide include milwaukee county completing city of milwaukee ballots monday... and theyre about a third of the way though absentee ballots. 23 of the states 72 counties have finished their recounts-- including dodge, ozaukee, and walworth counties. the latest tallies have president-elect donald trump increasing his margin over democrat hillary tonight, waukesha county projects it will have counted 150-thousand ballots so far.... out of the 240-thousand cast on election day. reporting live in waukesha, bl, fox6 news. ted thanks bret here in wisconsin -- the elections commission is posting daily updates as the presidential recount continues. track the developments on our website --

we're learning more details about the mercury contamination at a green bay school today. lincoln elementary students have returned home after being scanned for the presence of the toxic metal. school officials say a student brought a vial of a silvery metallic substance from home and a group of fifth graders was playing with it. emergency crews-- along with a hazmat team-- were called to the school. health officials say-- while they are being cautious-- there concern. "it can pose a problem by inhalation, getting into the system of the individual. short term effects really aren't of a major concern but it's long term exposure and we don't have that incidence here. fire officials say some areas of the school showed high levels of mercury. the green bay areas school

the group has gotten initial approval to build a four-story apartment building near 36th and villard. it would feature 43-units... many of which will be reserved for low-income residents. it also boasts a first-floor cafe or restaurant space. developers are working to get full-approval from the city by february. milwaukee's iconic "gas light" building is undergoing some changes. the l-e-d lights inside the iconic building are being upgraded and re-programmed-- to flicker when it rains or snows. there are also different holiday word on the "cost" of the upgrade, but we're told it was 'significant.' for more business news - go to fox 6 now dot com for a link to the business journal.

north dakota.. and one of the hardest hit areas... grand forks. the city receiving just around a foot of snow overnight... with the snow still continuing to fall. city crews working hard to help keep the streets as clear as possible... all grand forks' schools and government offices were closed for the day. in light of the blizzard - the standing rock sioux chairman is renewing a call for dakota access oil pipeline opponents to southern north dakota. he says there's no reason for people in the camp to put their lives at risk. and he says emergency shelters on the nearby reservation are all full. pipeline opponents have vowed to maintain the camp through the winter. they believe the pipeline threatens the tribe's drinking water, and cultural sites. a busy night for milwaukee first responders... as they were called out to three fires overnight. the red cross is helping those who were

"were just ready for it because we know it is that time of year" the red cross is prepared. and milwaukee firefighters are too. they encounter heavy flames at a home near 11th and wright early tuesday morning. there were no injuries...the home is vacant. an hour later...theyre at another house fire at 83rd and acacia. no one was home at the time of the blaze. and monday night...firefighters respond to an electrical fire near displaced but no one was hurt. "what we do is make sure they have food clothing and shelter" three fires...monday into tuesday in milwaukee from the south side to the north side...to the northwest side. a busy night -but the red cross says it responds to more fires over the holidays than any other time of year. "were cooking, were getting things ready, were putting presents in corners, were hiding them and unfortunately were not always thinking straight." while the overnight fires in

involve cooking --red cross officials say it is the most common cause of fires over the holidays. the red cross has disaster response volunteers ready to respond 24/7 but if you can help...they say they need you and they're can train you. in milwaukee deandra corinthios fox6 news. the red cross trains volunteers for disaster response throughout the year. if you're interested -- or if you'd like to donate to the cause-- check out the links section of fox6 now dot com. oakland fire officials say percent of the warehouse where dozens died in a fire during a dance party. the deputy fire chief says that by midnight tonight-- the remaining 10 percent of the building will be searched. firefighters have started knocking down parts of the building that were structurally unsound. they say the debris will fall on areas that have already been searched for bodies. "we're going to continue the investigation, we're going to continue the process until absolutely every piece of debris is removed

building and every area has been searched." meantime - recovery efforts at the site of the fire are taking an emotional toll on firefighters. the chaplain for the oakland fire department reveals that for many firefighters this is the first time they are working an incident with so many casualties. "it's overwhelming, i think for a lot of our guys we never -- being from oakland and working in oakland, we see a lot of difficult situations, but none this. so, i think for a lot of us we're still in shock. thirty-six bodies have been recovered at the burned down two-story warehouse and artists' studio.. so far, twenty-six families have been notified. another 9 people have been "tentatively identified." investigators say an appliance may have started the fire but it's too early to tell. the mayor of los angeles releasing more information

he says the threat did not come directly-- but by an anonymous, overseas tip line by a person who said they knew of such a person. the fbi and local authorities revealed the threat publicly yesterday because it was specific to the subway's red line universal city station and was supposed to happen today the mayor boarded a train at the heavily guarded station this morning to show confidence in security. a louisiana man is back in custody-- charged in connection death of a former n-f-l player. 28-year-old joe mcknight was shot and killed during a road rage incident last week. the suspect-- ronald gasser-- was initially taken into custody for questioning-- then let go without charges. after public backlash-- authorities announced today that gasser would face manslaughter charges. they say they waited to charge gasser so they could find and interview more witnesses. normand says: "so for those who have criticized the men and

decisions, that we made relative to that, tough. i don't care. butted with "we've done the right thing for the right reasons" officials say-- about ten years ago-- gasser was involved in another road rage incident at the very same intersection. as the opioid epidemic continues in southeastern wisconsin... those combating it are taking their battle to the billboards. more on a collaborative effort to eradicate drug abuse. when it comes to the opioid epidemic, we just hope that we're helping save lives. a new, life-saving strategy, we also wanna make sure we're communicating with the public, so they can help protect themselves. has folks ... looking-up. we can reduce, and prevent, addicition--before it ever starts.

witnessing the next move in a continuing battle against opioid misuse, and heroin and fentanyl abuse--as they see these billboards--flashing, throughout southeastern wisconsin. it'll inform residents how to make a difference, in their own communities, and, most importantly, it has the capacity to save lives. the three, rotating messages include one -- highlighting the number of milwaukee county overdoses, so far, this year. another -- encouraging parents to discuss drugs with their children, and the third -- with dialing directions. the campaign comes as the result of collaboration between the drug enforcement agency, c-v-s health, hupy & abraham, and clear channel this is the time to take action, and to be activists, to save our children. these billboards can be spotted as far west as fort atkinson, as far north as sheboygan, and as far south as just about the illinois border. the idea is to inspire southeastern wisconsin to create conversations around the opiod epidemic, and to take action--to do something to eliminate it. this is the latest, in milwaukee. i'm justin

aggressive. for hours— nats in vogel park near appleton and stark nats blaine hampton and his wife tanya have been searching nats for a family member who disappeared in the middle of the night. my dog let me know he had to go out and use the restroom. hampton say he let barely let his 6 year old dog chico out of his sight— when he heard a noise, and the dog did not return. once i called out his name, he didnt respond to me at all. hampton believes he knows who coyotes are out here running around. you never think it would happen to you. but it happened to me this morning. these type of attacks are going to be more frequent i believe this time of year. matthew snorek of guaranteed gone pest and wildlife control is warning other pet owners. snorek says, weve just hit the time of year coyotes become more aggressive. if there is one in an area they ant to take over and dominate. they will attack and kill that animal. one family is fearful, its exactly what happened to their
