family dog was not able to get out. for 70-thousand homes in milwaukee--- lead could be seeping into the drinking water. the city has a plan to fix the problem. a plan that would force homeowners to pay possibly thousands of dollars. here's our deandra cotnthios with the big vote that's about to take place. "this is a serious issue to each of us" members of the milwaukee common council host a community meeting to educate constituents on a proposed policy to phase out the citys lead laterals. "my daughter and my grandchildren are not the only people affet rachel campbell wants to know how the city plans to change that. "i care about the community this is a public health concern." the city treats the water to lessen the impact of lead but the proposed policy would replace lead service lines with copper. requiring property owners to replace their portion of the lateral whenever they are worked on due to breaks leaks or routine work. property owners would receive financial assistance ..the city would cover two thirds of the cost. the payments would be incremental.
