according to milwaukee police, melanie johnson is the 133rd person to be murdered in milwaukee this year. they are still searching for suspects. you know what they say - never judge a book by the cover. a couple of would-be criminals just found that out the hard way. i got up and i put the toe of my boot in a socially significant place. punks tried to carjack her -- she wasn't going to let that happen. she's a former drill sergeant! find out what else happened to dragged in detroit. what this woman did... that got her tossed off the plane. and next -- a nice little holiday gift -- how much less you'll be paying the state in property taxes.

property tax bills are in the mail... and governor scott walker says homeowners should be happy.. he's says he's saved them money. fox6's madeline a as homeowners across wisconsin open their property tax bills this december... governor scott walker says they'll be pleasantly surprised. property taxes today in december 2016, are $116 less than they were in december in 2010. at a news conference in waukesha... the republican governor explained... that's

426-dollars higher than what they currently are prior to his tax relief efforts. we did two things. we put more money into school aids. some of which went to schools directly, but a major portion of which we tied into property tax caps. so that levies were capped off at the school board and the municipal and county level. but democrats like say the cuts have come at the expense of public education... governor walker is sort of telling one version of the story. he says property taxes in his district of oshkosh have skyrocketed because not enough money is going into the classroom. individual districts, almost a quarter or third of them in wisconsin, their voters have decided to raise their own property taxes by $630 million dollars to make up for those cuts. governor walker says he will continue to focus on lowering property taxes in the next state budget. democrats say they too support tax relief but say it should be weighed

"caleres incorporated" made the deal for 255-million dollars.allen edmonds has been making shoes in wisconsin since 19- a 20-thousand dollar reward is being offered for information about the robbery at a milwaukee post office. it happened a little after three yesterday afternoon near 35th and capitol. we're told the suspect showed a gun and got away with cash. efforts to stop the heroin epidemic in wisconsin continue at the state capitol today. members of the "coalition to combat heroin" are proposing random drug testing for students in

heroin epidemic. the coalition worked to produce ideas that will eventually be turned into laws. representative joel kleefisch says the problem is only getting worse. "it's blowing up across the state and killing children, adults across every sector of society and we have to do every thing we can to help try to stop it" the coalition included police chiefs, legislators and other of the community. police respond to a shooting that left one man injured near 83rd and medford late this morning. a 31-year-old man was shot and drove himself to a clinic in wauwatosa. he was then taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. m-p-d is trying to figure out a motive and search for suspects. milwaukee police identify the man who was shot and killed near 5th and walnut. they say 27-year-old cody harris was shot just before 11

where he later died. authorities are now searching for a motive -- and a suspect. milwaukee police are following several leads in a north side shooting.. around 12:30 this morning a 48-year- old man was shot in the shoulder near 4th and center. police say several people were fighting when someone pulled out a gun and shot him. he is expected to survive. get the lead out! the city of milwaukee approves a multi million dollar plan to replace aging underground pipes. that cost. fox6's myra sanchick tells you when the work will begin. as homeowners pay property tax bills on the first floor of milwaukee's city hall. on the third floor the common council votes. hamilton the motion passes with that a multi million dollar plan will go into effect, to replace milwaukee's aging lead pipe laterals beneath city streets. lead leaking into the drinking water is a primary

homeowners to require that they pay for that. we pay too much money to the city willie hart owns a home on milwaukee's northwest side and says underground pipes and the water supply should be 100 percent the city's responsibility. they should take care of that . it's not fair to the property owners under the plan a homeowner would pay up to16 no more than a third of the cost of replacing the section of pipe under their property. the city would pay the rest., the homeowner could pay the cost over ten years. we understand there are going to be families who can't afford this right now. at the same time there are absentee landlords who would not be doing this if we did not mandate next year the city will start replacing pipes that bring water to day care centers and pipes that have histories of breaking. we want to assure that any

the landmark "21st century cures" bill, giving more than six billion dollars to medical research... is now law. president barack obama signed the bill today after congress passed it with bi-partisan support. the bill cuts red tape in getting approval for drugs and medical devices. the act includes the "cancer moonshot" initiative led by vice president joe biden... which gives nearly 2 billion dollars to the fight against cancer. it's in honor of his son, beau - who died
