november -- mps's superintendent has solicited public input to a proposed shifting of the schools' calendar. today, darienne driver and dpi superintendent tony evers held a joint news conference with an update. beverly taylor joins us in the studio with this developing story. it's now up to the school board to decide whether all milwaukee school high schools start "it might sound like it's small but it's a game changer for us."milwaukee public schools superintendent darienne driver has a plan to help mps succeed-- but she says it will take more instructional time during an academic year to do it. and wisconsin department of public instruction superintendent dr. tony evers stands in agreement. "expanded learning makes a difference. the initial proposal was changed...to a

with the year-round and i.b. schools on a common start date in mid-august and a common end date in mid or late may beginning in the 2017-18 school year. "the district itself has the ability to go on record and change the starting date unilaterally for special schools and schools that are struggling. :08 in 2018- 2019, the proposal calls for all schools moving to an calendar year, which would call for legislative action. "i'm going to do whatever i can going forward as is part of my budget to have legislation change and, this schedule would make room for a 4- week "j-term" in june. "...we would be able to use for credit recovery for students who might have failed a course, students who even have a d or c and want to improve."the j-term is in addition to the traditional summer school programming in

we've seen it throughout the season, running back after running back signed to fill the void left by the injury to eddie lacy. now we might be seeing a similar thing at linebacker as injuries are piling up at that position. today, the packers signed linebacker jordan tripp after he reached an injury settlement with his former team, the seahawks. he played in 7 games this season with seattle before being placed in injued with jacksonville and miami. he played his college ball at montana, a small school. mike mccarthy played at a small school and uw oshkosh, a small school, is battling for the national championship on friday. today, mccarthy spoke about football at that level. "i think it's great. obviously i have an experience playing small college football, oshkosh being right down the road. what a great season they're having. baker, obviously, personally close to my heart. coach mike royster is a friend of mine, teammates in

carter has decided to leave the program effective immediately. after playing in 41 games for the golden eagles, carter will look to transfer to another school. earlier this season, sandy cohen left for uw green bay. meanwhile, the badgers host uw- green bay tonight as they will be going for their 6th straight win. it was against the phoenix that greg gard took over the badgers program last year after bo ryan's departure and the badgers struggled to an 84- 79 win. bronson koenig remembers it too well. it. just one of those games. i remember i had two early fouls, sat for most of the first half and just didn't really get into the flow, partially because of that defense, that pressure defense and stuff like that."

surface mining facility in milwaukee for nearly 4-point-4-million dollars. selling the roughly 200-thousand square foot building near miller park way creates an opportunity to re- fill the building with another manufacturing company. joy global closed the facility amid lower demand for mining equipment. the new owner is reich brothers l-l-c -- a national company that buys vacant plants, sells off remaining equipment and leases them to new tenants. executives with both aurora and froedtert health say they saw an increase of revenue in the third quarter of 2016. but both say they saw a decrease in profits for that same period. aurora posted revenue of 1-point- 25-billion in the three months ending september 30th -- while froedtert posted revenue of 517-million-dollars. for more information on this and other stories in the business journal, we have link to their site on ours, fox6now.com. it's time for your news and

isis fighters in iraq and syria is down 75- percent -- the lowest it's ever been. top u-s officials say there are around 12- to 15-thousand fighters left. last week a u-s official said the coalition had killed about 50-thousand militants since 2014. president obama's envoy to the coalition against isis says tighter surveillance and border controls are stopping foreign fighters from joining the terror group in iraq and syria. their case in the dylann roof murder trial. the self-declared white supremacist previously confessed to killing nine people last year in a charleston, south carolina church. the defense is expected to finish calling witnesses this week. court will be in recess for the holidays -- with the trial resuming january 3rd. if convicted -- roof could face the death penalty. today marks since one of the deadliest mass shootings in u-s

group of good samaritans rescues a woman from a frozen pond... and it's all caught on tape. this happened yesterday near minneapolis... the driver told authorities her windows fogged up -- and she couldn't see when her s-u-v veered off the ra shows a bunch of people pulling over -- then rushing down to help. "i knew she was headed towards the pond, so i started pulling over and calling 911." "i just did what everybody else would have done. you know, when you see a car in the water, there is somebody in there." after getting the woman out of the vehicle -- she was able to walk to an ambulance and warm up. officials say she suffered some minor cuts -- but will otherwise be

vehicles in san francisco -- even thought it;s against state regulations. uber started allowing the public to ride in autonomous vehicles today -- moving forward with its tests without the blessing of the california d-m-v. state law requires companies receive d-m-v approval before testing self- driving vehicles on public roads... but uber believes it doesn't need to get approval because its drivers will be present in the test s-u-v's. the d-m-v was critical of the uber will face any consequences. a dog belonging to russian president vladimir putin steals the spotlight during a meeting with journalists. putin granted an interview with japanese reporters ahead of an official trip to japan tomorrow... but putin's dog -- an akita name "yume"
