fresh air in. tomorrow we will start with sunshine and some added cloud cover by the afternoon. it will be sunny and comfortable day with temperatures in the mid-70's. we will look at the weekend coming up. a suburban baltimore neighborhood is trying out this morning after a water main break drenched more than 100 homes. bulldozers were last night pushing massive amounts of mud and sludge in dundalk, maryland. a 72-inch water main can apart friday evening. rescue boats were called to rescue people. >> a geyser emerged from a 72- inch water main break. it turned streets into rivers. water was chest-high and some residents resorted to boats emergency crews waded through the water, making sure everyone was safe.

>> the water got all the way up to here. >> everything was under water. right now, it is starting to proceed. >> this woman salvage what she could. she is thankful that yard accessories ar all that was lost. this woman lived in dundalk for more than 35 years and has never seen anything like this. >> i have a crawl space under my house. i have a furnace under there so i know my furnace is probably gone. >> the county executive says water was quickly turned off to the water main was likely rupture because it was old. it was constructed in 1970. power has been restored to 840 homes. the focus is now on cleaning up. city dump trucks will make the rounds tomorrow, picking up debris. >> we caution people to take photos of their property before

they dump it on the truck because if they want to make an insurance claim, they want to show what they're making a claim about. >> the local fire department is making pumps available for residents who have water sitting in their basements. governor martin o'malley says that state funds will assist in the cleanup. some more details on that water main break to? a 72-square block was affected. a spokesman for the governor said the maryland emergency management agency will assist in the cleanup. they will assist families with property damage for the process will be similar to the aid given in the aftermath of tropical storm isabel in 2003. president barack obama is taking his health care message to the networks tomorrow. we're getting a firsthand look at what he has to say. the president is tackling the delicate issue of race and

each candidate. the republican candidate, bob mcdonnell, received three times as much cash from lobbyists spent a democrat creigh deeds. banks, real estate, and insurance companies were bob mcdonnell's chief source of donations. labor unions and lawyers were the two largest groups backing creigh deeds. the peace the police department is fighting a court ruling -- the d.c. police department filed -- a court ruling was filed. there is a program that requires every sworn d.c. police officer to hit the streets on a power shifts for three consecutive days. police chief cathy lanier says the program has been a strong deterrent at least nine people have tried to kill themselves on

you can see that the further north you are, the cooler the temperatures and the drier the air. it will be comfortable across the board. 62 degrees in stafford. here is our forecast for this weekend -- nearly total sunshine today with high temperatures in the low to mid-1/7's. it will be coolerorth and west of the metro area. there will be added clouds tomorrow afternoon but it -- still a pleasant sunday. we will have rainshowers almost every day next week. dog lovers across northern virginia brought out their dogs for a good cause. some dogs dressed up for the walk for canine cancer awareness in arlington. one in four dogs die from cancer. dog's age faster than humans and their cancer spreads faster, leading some researchers to say that dogs of a perfect study group for treating human cases. >> funding studies in canine

about clean up after a major water main break flooded a suburban baltimore neighborhood last night. nearly 100 homes in dundalk were swamped when a 72-inch water main ripped apart, turned streets into rivers. it forced people to resort to boats. we go live to done dog. >> it is a couple blocks away from where we are standing where the water main broke. you concede detour signs. it has been barely 14 hours since the water main break. already, skimmers are out there trying to steal people's money. the fire department is telling me that individuals are going around, knocking on people's doors and saying that the fire department sent them. they want people to sign a contract and payable up front. baltimore county officials say that is absolutely not true. they have hired no private

contractors to pump basements. the fire department and the depament of public works is going around pumping basements. behind me, they are setting up for a press conference. the baltimore county executive, jim smith, is prepared to give a statement with the latest in a couple of minutes. in the meantime, there is still about 100 homes that are without power at this hour. 39 are without gas and more than 24 homes still need to have their basements pumped. county officials say they are in for a long weekend of cleanup. keep us posted. there is a lot of clean up out there. a pro basketball player with local ties is out of police custody every thursday night arrests. delonte de west, a guard for the cleveland cavaliers, was pulled over for cutting off a police

cruiser on the beltway in largo. he was arrested when the police officer realized he was armed. he was carrying three guns. >> this situation could have turned out worse than it is. the officer approached the individual and found the weapons. it could have turned outo be a bad situation. >> delonte west has been charged with a traffic violations and two gun charges. further charges are pending. he played at roosevelt high school in greenbelt. heartbreak for 12 montgomery teenagers hours after their mother was found murdered. police discovered the woman in the backyard of her sver spring home and they believe 18 pager is responsible for death. >> she was the greatest mom. everything was for us. she sacrificed so much for us.

>> this 15-year-old can't believe his mother is gone and can't understand why she was murdered. >> what would this person do that to my mother. what was the pleasure in all this? what did he gain from this? >> after going missing three weeks ago, the 35-year-old was found dead inside of a plastic storage container in her backyard. police charged this young man with the murder. >> it does not bring my mother back. >> the suspect had a crush on her. according to documents, he came to the house on the morning of august 31, looking for the girl but getting in an argument with the mother. they believe he killed her and took off in her car. >> we used to be close friends. all the sudden, we were not. >> the two young siblings are staying with their father the

grieving family tries to make sense of what happened. >> i don't know what that guy did that to heart. my mom was really nice to him. >> the teenage suspect was arrested late friday morning. he is being held without bond and is being charged as an adult. plans to put a shopping mall across the street from the prince george's county high- school are raising concerns. the 40,000 square foot strip mall is said to be built along the road across from charles county high school. parents are concerned about students skipping school and littering. >> when you -- who ever thought about putting a shopping center across my high school must be insane. >> the original plan was approved by the ardmore springfield civic association with restrictions.

this is "good morning washington" on your side. 6:45 and let's take you live to dundalk, maryland. there was a major water main break which flooded the streets last night. >> before the press conference begins, i was able to grab baltimore county executive jim smith. what is the latest on the water main break? >> the latest is, it was a great example of a cooperative of baltimore city and baltimore county and the state of maryland. the governor and i flew over the site around 9:30 this morning. most of the water had receded.

we have full cooperation. bge was sending personnel to meet with the chief electrical inspector from the county. as soon as the basements were available, they went through to determine what the condition was. our fire department, the city and county and public works were pumping out basements. there were lots of good things. neighbors were helping neighbors and it was impressive. however, it has not at all the good news for it with every tragedy, some creditors come in and try to take advantage. a couple of contractors have come in and said they were sent by baltimore county and encourage people to sign a contract to clean up their basements. baltimore county did not send any contractors. we sent public service but anybody who is asked to sign a contract, baltimore county did not send those folks. as soon as i got to one of the

areas in the village that was hard hit, people were coming out of their houses to tell me they were having trouble with insurance companies. i called the governor. the governor said we would help these people. he contacted the maryland insurance administration and they are ready today at 9:00 a.m. and anybody who is having trouble with an insurance claim, i have a number for them. 410-468-2090. the governor and myself will not stand for insurance cpanies wrongfully denying claims. >> there's a lot still happening this morning. where do you see it moving forward? how soon will dundalk avenue be open? >> i think there was water, power already established. it is already cleaned up. people have water. another good thing that happened last night was calmed depot, --

naming a successor to senator ted kennedy. the senate will take up the issue on monday. the seat will remain vacant until a special election is held in january. protesters flooded the streets of toronto -- of iran. tens of thousands marched in government-spoored rallies we will take a look at the weekend plan. there will be jazz of the waterfront today. it will be in the national harbors. the festival will include artists from across the country. the largest and oldest greek festival in the d.c. area is in full swing this weekend. it kicked off friday and runs through sunday and is happening at the same constantine and helen greek orthodox church in northwest.
