transform america's health care system is awaiting president obama's signature this morning, after a weekend of high drama. >> it passed with a slim margin and without a single republican vote. >> linsey davis joins us. >> good morning. it's been 100 years in the making, and when health care reform finally went through, president obama high-fived his chief of staff and his first call went to nancy. lows and head told her you've done what no other speaker has done. democrats are like. ing this moment to the passage of civil rights, social security and medicare. >> when faced with crisis, we did not shrink from our challenge. we overcame it. >> reporter: 216 was the magic number. >> it is adopted. >> reporter: the bill got more than needed. >> we're guaranteed --

>> no, you don't! >> freedom dies a little bit today. >> reporter: 34 democrats voted no. a group of anti-abortion democrats threatened to, but had a change of heart at the 11th hour after president obama promised to sign an order that no federal money would go for abortion. not a single republican voted yes. >> you can say it was done openly? with transparency and accountability? without backroom deals and struck behind closed doors? hidden from the people? hell, no, you can't! >> reporter: despite angry protests and racial slurs outside the capitals are when all was said and done, democrats declared victory. the bill goes to the president to be signed into law and a secondary piece of legislation with financial changes still has to go through the senate. jeremy and vinitvinita.

work in the u.s. president obama has pledged action in the first year, but in the videotape, president obama reassured them that he will work with congress to fix a broken system. protesters agree to meet president bush in haiti. the ex-presidents are making the one-day visit to find out what needs to be done to speed up the process. hundreds of thousands of haitians still live in camps. some already fled ahead of the rainy season. prime minister nuri al maliki's party is trailing with 95% of the vote counted. there have been charges of fraud, but international voters who said the vote and the count were fair. the final vote count is expected by friday. and in afghanistan, more talks of reconciling with enemy fighters. a delegation linked with the taliban met with president hamid karzai to discuss a peace deal. it comes ahead of karzai's

national peace conference next month. and north dakota, fargo's mayor says the champagne corks will be popping to celebrate the successful fight against red river flooding. the city has managed to escape major damage thanks in part to lessons learned from last year's record floods. barbara pinto reports. >> reporter: at fargo's first assembly church of god has a celebration. >> we need to give god thanks. we've been spared. >> reporter: neighbors thanked god and each other for keeping the swollen river at bay. >> it started looking like the flood was getting here earlier area than expected. >> reporter: thousands of volunteers helped save the family's homes, so did dry weather. tom and donna winters had to trade their car for a fishing boat.

closed for a national holiday today. hong kong's hang seng is down sharply in late trading. in london, the ftse is down in early trading. wall street starts the day with the dow at 10,741, after picking up 117 points. the nasdaq opens at 2374 after gaining almost 7 points last week. well, at least of three groups of toyota investor have found class action suits. the group said toyota flew about the accelerator problems for a decade. toyota already faces a barrage of lawsuits over the problems. the company isn't commenting on the class action suits. british airways says a three-day strike by cabin crews is having less of an impact than expected. however, many u.s.-bound passengers wound up stranded in london's heathrow airport. the cabin crew is striking over a pay freeze and could walk out

next weekend. chevron is taking a step over jean energy. the oil giant will announce it will set up an eight-acre test facility near bakersfield, california. the company hopes to cut its own energy costs. it was another wonderful weekend for "alice in wonderland." it took in $34.5 million. the diary of a wimpy kid made $21.8 million. "the county hunter" with jennifer aniston, $21 million. pepsi plans to start including a secret new ingredient in its lay's potato chips. it's a new designer salt reduced in shape and size to reduce sodium intake. >> they're also saying in an effort to make consumers more healthy, they'll switch from transfat oils to sunflower oil.
