police have now identified the suspect in the worst mass killing in the history of orange county, california. scott evans kedraai, is in custody. >> he opened fire, leaving eight people dead. >> reporter: the lights are on at the salon meritage, as investigators, including the coroner, combs through the evidence and witnesses try to make sense of what happened. >> all i could hear was pop, pop, pop. >> reporter: kathy magee was in a back room inside the salon, as gunfire erupted. >> a client that was getting her hair done came into my room. opened the door. closed the door. locked the door. and we all kind of hovered down. all i could hear were screams. and shots. >> reporter: relatives tell eyewitness news, salon employee, michelle fornet, was killed in the shooting.

the alleged shooter, michelle's ex-husband, scott dekraai. he shot eight people. christine says randy cut her hair at the salon this morning. >> it scared the hell out of me. it just does. i'm going, what in the world? it could have been me. >> reporter: the suspect fled the scene in this white, toyota. officers opened up the button-down shirt. >> they had him by the shirt. when they pulled the shirt up, they realized he had a bullet-proof vest. an they took the vest off. >> reporter: police placed that body armor on this vehicle, along with what appears to be his shoes and casings from the gun. >> i think a lot of people are walking around in disbelief. >> reporter: this look says it all for this community. hugs are not enough. residents say this is simply incomprehensible. >> one shooting victim remains in the hospital in critical

condition. this story from northern california overnight. the collision of two amtrak passenger trains injured close to 20 people. one train was at a station in oakland, when the other one bumped into it at low speed. all the injuries described as bumps and bruises. one locomotive derailed just slightly. the first votes in the 2012 presidential race could be cost in less than two months. new hampshire may move its first in the nation primary up to december 6th. but if the vote for to take place today, there might be a very surprising victor. abc's john hendren has the latest from washington. good morning, john. >> reporter: good morning, tanya. you're right. there's a lot going on in the republican presidential race right now. michele bachmann and donald trump will meet in new york later today. but all the excitement revolves around an unlikely favorite. the guy from godfather's pizza. here's a sentence no one expected to hear. the new republican front-runner is herman cain. he says he's more than just a flavor of the week.

>> the difference between the flavor of the week and haagen-dazs black walnut because it tastes good all the time. >> reporter: it's a fast-changing republican race. cain is leading the pack with 27%. romney is behind with 23%, within the margin of error. cane comes with a simple plan he calls 9-9-9. 9% income tax. 9% corporate business tax and a 9% national sales tax, a plan that comes with its share of controversy. >> the sales tax. >> i understand. don't confuse the new hampshire sales tax with this. >> reporter: mitt romney has focused his fire on another rival, criticizing rick perry's refusal to denounce a prominent supporter who says romney, a mormon, is not a real christian. >> mormonism is a cult. >> reporter: perry says he doesn't believe mormonism is a

cult. but laura ingraham says tolerance is intolerance. as republicans fight over his job, president obama is focused oen jobs for the unemployed. >> i will not take no for an answer. i hope you will not, either. this fight will go on. >> reporter: the president says he will not accept the defeat the senate handed him on his jobs bill. now, he says senators will have to vote on that plan, measure by measure. rob and tanya? >> john hendren, thank you. news out of iraq, with some 40,000 troops are still stationed. all of them are expected to be out by the end of this year. but iraqi leaders are asking that 5,000 americans remain past the deadline. the pentagon says the key issue is what mission would those troops be carrying out if they stick around until next year. the underwear bomber trial has come to a dramatic end just two days into it. umar farouk abdulmutallab

welcome back, everybody. blackberry's problems are getting worse, not better. users in the u.s. and canada are now seeing outages of e-mail, messaging and internet services, as well. subscribers in other parts of the world have been having problems for several days now. parent company, research in motion, says the problem has been mixed. but a huge backlog of messages is now clogging the system. and foreclosures are rising again. but that could be good news. reality track says the number of homes entering the foreclosure process in the third quarter was up 14%. the first increase in more than a year. but it could mean a quicker turnaround for the housing industry, as the backlog of foreclosed homes moves through the system. it's probably going to cost you more to heat your home this winter. oil is expected to average 8% more this year. propane, 7% more. and natural gas is up 5%. heating with electricity, on the other hand, should be 1%

cheaper. >> we do that story every year. prices never go down. >> no, no. unless you're using electricity. >> that's right. overseas markets are mostly higher this morning, thanks to optimism about europe's financial problems. tokyo's nikkei average was up 84 points today. hong kong's hang seng gained 185. in london, the ftse opened higher. and on wall street, the dow rose 102 1/2 points yesterday. the nasdaq index ticked up 22. after saying the wealthy don't pay enough taxes, billionaire warren buffett is revealing his income as an example. he says he made almost $63 million last year, of which almost $40 million was taxable. he paid just under $7 million in federal income tax or about 17%. >> wow. how does he do it? >> how does he do it? good problem to have, warren. a texas woman is suing continental airlines, claiming she was traumatized by a bumpy flight. colleen o'neill says a normally 20-minute trip turned into a

imprisoned polygamist leader, warren jeffs, has fled his community. the unnamed woman wound up with authorities in utah, after fleeing her home in arizona. she said to be 25 and reportedly married jeffs in 2004, when he was 51. jeffs is convicted for child abuse. the number of his wives isn't known. but authorities have estimated it to be around 90. >> wow. a florida man is free on $10,000 bond this morning. but he's facing the rest of his life behind bars. christopher haney was arrested yesterday, charged with hacking the e-mails of hollywood's biggest names. cecil cecilia vega has the details. >> reporter: the case has haunted hollywood for nearly a year. the e-mail accounts of more than 50 victims, hacked, including a-listers like actresses scarlett johansson, and mila kunis and singer christina aguilera. private images, in some cases, nude photos, made public.

the fbi said they arrested the man behind it, 35-year-old christopher chaney from florida. >> chaney stole not only private and personal photographs of the victims, he also took financial information, movie scripts and conversations that the victims believed to be private. >> reporter: this is how authorities describe the scheme. chaney would break into a celebrity's e-mail account by using public information about their lives to guess their password. >> the number one way that people are hacked is that someone knows enough about their life that they're able to guess what their password is. >> reporter: and according to an indictment unsealed, chaney rigged the celebrity account so they would send virtually instantaneously a copy of every e-mail received, straight into his own account. using the information, he then hacked into the accounts of their celebrity friends. authorities say chaney sent nude pictures to celebrity websites. but they don't believe he profited. if convicted on all 26 counts, christopher chaney could spend

i'll do research after the show. finally this morning, a royal wedding at one of the most exotic spots on the planet. this morning, the king of bhutan has married his commoner bride. >> television arrived 12 years ago in bhutan. and today, everyone tuned in to witness the festivities, including dan harris. >> reporter: good morning from the roof of the world. this is the tiny himalayan nation of bhutan, where we've been witnessing a royal wedding today. this country is rufred to as the last shangri-la, and the happiest place on earth. this is bhutan's answer to will and kate. the royal couple consists of king jigme khesar wangchuck. and he took a commoner and turned her into a queen. she is a 21-year-old student, named jetsun pema.

we're going to show you the key moment in the ceremony. this is when the king crowned the new queen. he touches her face lovingly and then smiles. that's as much affection as you're going to see in this ceremony in this modest nation. there's no kissing and no ring in a ceremony like this. that's western stuff. nonetheless, this is an incredibly important day in the life of this nation. i have to say, as an abc news reporter, i've traveled all over the world. but this is one of the most fascinating, truly exotic places i've ever been. until the 1960s, they had no paved roads, no public schools, no currency, even. ant a month ago, they got their first escalator. aspent some time watching people ride that escalator for the first time. that was rather amusing. this is an important day in the life of this nation. many people say it is one of the most important days in their own personal lives. it's been a pleasure to cover. i'm dan harris, reportingm
