we're not going to quit until the stroke of midnight. >> that comes monday night when a super committee of a dozen lawmakers needs to present an agreement to cut the federal deficit by $1.2 trillion over the next decade. failier to do so triggers automatic sputs. slashing entitlement programs and pentagon spending. right now there is no deal. republicans don't like tax increases and dracts don't want to cut social security or medicare. the blame game is in full swing. >> i blame the white house for a little lack of leadership on this. >> the wealthiest of merps those who earn over $1 million every year, have to share too. and that line in the sand we have nt seen any republicans willing to crash it. >> as they dig in their heels it could jeopardize america's credit rapetting and that's bad news for workers and businesses alike.

>> let's get more on that from david mark, a senior editor with politico. i want to start with the super committee because the deadline is nearing pretty soon. you have the wednesday deadline but more importantly the monday deadline. right? >> they actually have to have at least some form of paper that day so they can bring it to the congressional budget office to score it, to see how much it actually costs so they've got to have something in place by monday even if it's just a skeltle outline. >> and is it really as much of a doomsday scenario as many are making it out to be if they don't come to a decision? >> it's a self-imposed deadline. it's not like the credit markets are going to fall. a lot of the agencies are already saying we expected them to fail. so if they do come up with something it will be a pleasant surprise. but i think the expectations are low at this point. >> sort of the way we look at the redskins. some success would be a great thing. >> but let's get back to these

guys for a second here. so these major cuts that are supposed to be automatic if they don't come to a decision, in essence are they going to go into effect? >> they're not supposed to go into effect until 2013 and of course congress can always just waive that and say we didn't mean that. we're going to rescind that which will defeat the whole point of the super committee. this is why a lot of people were skeptical of it in the first place. it's just politicians putting off tough decisions. >> so it's a two month long exercise in few tilt. >> it could be. >> let's get to the presidential race. we are about five weeks from the iowa caucuses or so. and the republicans seem to have had a new love child that they're in love with all of a sudden for the last week now. how long do you see that continuing? >> he's trying to turn it into a two-person race between himself and mitt romney.
