it is march 28th. and in the news this morning, midflight freakout. a pilot taken off his own plane on a gurney after a breakdown shouting about a bomb from iraq. subdued by passengers and restrained this morning. 93 questions about the pilots' training. also, major changes coming to the newt gingrich as mitt romney shows off his sense of humor. a 30-hour ordeal, an agonizing choice. only one making it to land alive. brace yourself, megamillions mania, let the true frenzy begin.

we learned overnight that nobody won that $363 million jackpot. >> good morning, everybody. the fbi is now looking into just what trigger that bizarre series of events on board that jetblue flight. >> and those close to clayton osbon say they just cannot imagine what would have caused the veteran pilot to snap. we begin the coverage with abc's tahman bradley. >> reporter: in amarillo, texas, the captain of jetblue flight 191 carried off the plane in handcuffs after his co-pilot made an emergency landing amidst this terrifying scene on board captured by cell phone video. passengers holding down the captain identified as clayton osbon. sources say osbon began acting erratically, flipping switches

and appearing confused. the co-pilot tricked the pilot and locked the door and radioed emergency. >> jetblue 911, emergency. >> can you give me a more specific nature of this medical emergency so i can pass it on to the ambulance crew. >> reporter: a third passenger slipped into the cockpit to help. the pilot beam aggressive yelling about al qaeda and a bomb. >> he became aggressive. he kept saying iran. he did it. >> all i could think of is my wife and my children. >> reporter: dave gonzalez, a former corrections officer from new york put the captain in a choke hold. >> i was still on this guy until we landed the plane. >> reporter: gonzales and his fellow passengers sat on the captain tying him up with their

leather belts. >> i said, you know what i'm going to show you what iraq and iran is. >> law enforcement sources say the pilot suffered a panic attack. he remains under investigation this morning. the fbi and faa are investigating the incident. >> and there was a report he was frothing at the mouth. clearly a medical issue. what more do we know be about the pilot and what are those close to him saying? >> according to his facebook page, osbon has been with jetblue since 2000. friends and family say he's a nice enough guy. he lives at queens, new york. he plays with neighborhood kids. he roots for the giants. reached for comment, osbon's wife said there are several sides to every story. >> tahman bradley from washington. thanks for that report. luckily, incidents like this are very rare, still, it does raise the question of whether flight crews are properly

screened. >> we asked john nance whether changes are needed. >> we have a lot of screening when somebody is hired. then there's a network in which everybody is in effect watching everybody else. not in an "i'm suspicious of you" form, but in terms of knowing what's going on. that's one of the effective methods. maybe we need to look at ratcheting that up a bit. >> pressure is being raised about the pressure flight crew members are under in the airline industry. we'll get into that coming up on "good morning america" we'll also talk to the passengers who jumped into action. thank god for those folks and tune in to "gma" for that. and promising news for president obama and his second bid for the white house term. a widening gap between the president and frrnt mitt romney. 53% of americans now express favorable views of mr. obama,

but that number dropped to 34% for mitt romney. the lowest for any leading presidential candidate in our poll since 1984. definitely teeter-totter in the polls. of course that poll was taken before romney's appearance on "the tonight show" last night where he did his best to show his more personal side. saying that his white house santorum would make a good press secretary. romney didn't even mention his other rival, newt gingrich whose campaign is struggling. gingrich is laying off about a third of his staff, including his campaign manager. he will focus more on getting the word out over youtube, twitter and other social media. gingrich plans to call delegates personally, hoping to get their support at the republican convention this summer. >> money running a little low. in other news this morning, trayvon martin's parents took their case to lawmakers on capitol hill hill. trayvon's father said they will

continue to fight for justice. and his mother reminded the panel members about what exactly is at stake in all of this. >> trayvon was our son, but trayvon is your son. >> that's right. >> a lot of people can relate to our situation. and it breaks their heart, just like it breaks mine. >> also another important note to pass on this morning, abc news has learned just hours afternoon trayvon martin was killed the homicide officer investigating this case, recommended, recommended again, that george zimmerman be brought up on manslaughter charges but sources tell abc news that when the office of the state attorney general that very night rejected that. also on capitol hill today, the nation ace highest court winded up three days of arguments. the justices appeared deeply divided over whether americans should be forced to buy health insurance.
