this morning, chaos in kentucky. >> it's happening right now. lexington erupts in violence, after the wildcats win their latest national basketball title. dozens of arrests, fires set. and abc news is there. also this morning, a california community in shock after a campus shooting spree. new information overnight. did money troubles drive the shooter to despair? and the newest airline fee. would you believe 35 bucks to use the overhead bin? and also this morning, whitney houston, sparkling on the silver screen. the first look at her final role.

and good tuesday morning, everybody. i'm rob nelson. >> and i'm tanya rivero, in for paula faris. we begin with the call for calm in lexington, kentucky, where about 15,000 fans poured into the streets when their basketball team won the national title. >> it was a party. but there's been dozens of arrests, arson. and one person was wounded by gunfire. abc's alex perez is in lexington this morning. good morning, alex. >> we are standing outside of state street. and the crowds of students have been making their way here. look at this mayhem here. so many students on the street that you can't even see where the street ends or begins. officers, having a hard time really trying to control the crowd. there's so many more students than there are officers. there's not much they can do. police, basically trying to corral the crowd on to the street, to try to keep things under control. we've seen students throwing bottles. we've seen students jumping on top of other students.

we've heard lots of fireworks, as people celebrate the win here. all this, of course trying to make sure as people celebrate, . rob and tanya? >> a wild scene. police say the man who was shot was taken to a hospital, with what appeared so be nonlife-threatening injuries. we'll have highlights later in this half hour. other new details about the suspect in a deadly shooting at a california university. there are reports the former student was facing deep financial problems. >> we've also learned that his mother and brother both died just in the past year. abc's tahman bradley has the latest. >> reporter: a chaotic and terrifying scene at oikos university in oakland. these moments just after a gunman shot ten people, killing seven. the rampage began at 10:30 yesterday morning. after a frantic search for the shooter, it ended an hour later after police say the suspect, 43-year-old one l. goh,

surrendered at this shopping mall. witnesses say goh, a former nursing student at the christian college, ordered everyone in a class to line up against the wall and then opened fire. >> we heard least half a dozen gunshots. and we heard somebody say, yeah, somebody has a gun. and then, i evacuated the classroom. we heard probably about six gunshots. i looked outside the door of the classroom. and somebody said, he's got a gun. >> reporter: police and s.w.a.t. teams arrived on the scene, leading people to safety. >> there were several people hiding in locked buildings, locked doors, behind desks. frightened, very scared. >> reporter: police say they have not determined the suspect's motive. the community surrounding the school, mostly korean-americans, is searching for answers. >> it's a kind of pain and situation that we won't understand totally immediately. but that will leave the community asking questions for a long time. >> it was just another sad day

in my city. >> reporter: investigators say it's not clear why the suspect is no longer is a student. whether he dropped out or was expelled. authorities hope to learn more in the days ahead. tahman bradley, abc news. tonight, the campus community will come together for a memorial service. we'll have a live update later today from that campus, later on "good morning america." the supreme court has opened the way for law enforcement to increase the use of controversial and invasive strip-searches. in a 5-4 decision yesterday, the court ruled that jailers may perform those searches on people arrested for even minor offenses. the court's four liberal justices descended, saying strip-searches improperly subjected those taken into custody for minor offenses, to serious invasions of their personal privacy. and more than 3,100 illegal aliens and fugitives with criminal records are waking up in jail across the country. they were founded up the last week in the largest-ever nationwide sweep of its kind. most of the illegal immigrants

arrested will be deported to their home countries. and mitt romney is getting a boost ahead of today's republican primaries. romney is nowalfway to clinching the nomination, after inching up to 572 delegates yesterday. he got the extra votes after officials in tennessee finalized results from that state's primary last month. 95 delegates are at stake in today's races in wisconsin, maryland and in the nation's capital. also, the head of the huge government agency known as the general services administration has now been forced to resign over a lavish spending spree by her agency. martha johnson agreed to step aside after the embarrassing details became public. those included an $835,000 conference in las vegas. among those expenses, get this, a $3,200 mind-reader, a $6,300 coin set. and $7,500 exercise to build a bicycle. terrified shoppers were sent

running after a small experimental aircraft crashed into a shopping center near orlando. eyewitnesses say they heard the plane sputtering just before it plunged into a publix supermarket and burst into flames. at least three shoppers were hurt. and a sad ending to the search for a missing coffee shop worker in alaska. the body of samantha koenig was pulled from a lake in anchorage. police believe the teen died within hours after being abducted. a 34-year-old man is in custody, in connection with her disappearance. also, still in custody since last week's midair meltdown, is jetblue pilot clayton osmond. he made his first appearance in court yesterday. he did not enter a plea to a charge of interfering with a flight crew. he's being held at least until his next court appearance on thursday. let's get a look at your weather from across the country on your tuesday morning.

we're expecting some good news from detroit this morning. the u.s. automakers will report their march sales figures. and when they're all in, they should show the strongest quarter in four years for the industry. the reasons include the improving economy, easier financing and also last month's warm weather. and higher gas prices were also a factor, as well, which is why general motors sold more than 100,000 cars that get 30 miles a gallon or better last month. that's the best ever for a u.s. automaker. they were about 40% of the company's total sales in march. pink slime, ground beef, remains in the news.

iowa's governor is demanding a congressional investigation into what he calls the smear campaign against the product that contains ammonia-treated scraps. and one of the companies that produces it has filed for bankruptcy. most overseas markets are up on good news of u.s. manufacturing. tokyo's nikkei average was off 59 points today. hong kong's hang seng gained 173 points. in london, the ftse opened higher. on wall street, the dow rose 52 points yesterday. the nasdaq index picked up 28. the flying car is getting closer to reality. a prototype has made a test flight. and the company expects to sell the hybrid in the next year. it has two seats, four wheels and wings that fold up. 100 people have put down a deposit. it's expected to cost about 279,000 bucks. >> i'd like one of those. >> yeah. and get ready for this. another airline fee, starting

the maryland woman who told "the new york post" she had a ticket worth almost $220 million told us she needs to double-check. >> do you still have the ticket? >> yes. >> reporter: she works at this mcdonald's outside baltimore. only about a quarter of a mile from the 7-eleven where the winning ticket was bought. >> confusing. >> reporter: she's not the only one confused. when she told the paper she won, her mickey ds co-workers said, we won, too. they say she was part of their mcdonald's office pool. >> everybody give like $5. put in $5 each to give it to her for her to just go and get the tickets. >> reporter: now, to the megamillions' second big winner. the ticket was bought at this moto mart in the sleepy illinois town of red bud. >> my gosh. everybody's just guessing and rumors are flying. >> reporter: 3,500 people live

here. everyone knows everyone. and everyone wants to know one thing. >> everybody's wondering who won it and how many won it. whether it's just one person or a bunch of people. i myself hope it's a bunch of people. >> reporter: illinois law says whoever gets the $218 million check must come forward at some point. but they have a year to stay in the shadows. remember, it's only been three days. the third winner bought the ticket in kansas. and that's about all we know. and maybe all we will ever know. the state allows lottery winners to remain anonymous. even the store where the ticket was bought isn't revealed. i'm ryan owens, in red bud, illinois. the texas model who lost her hand and an eye when she walked into an airplane propeller seems to be in very good spirits. just four months after the accident, a smiling lauren scruggs was spotted at a sporting goods store near dallas for the first time with her bandaged arm in full view.

there's also word that scruggs received a seven-figure settlement. a transsexual beauty contestant will be allowed to compete for the miss universe canada title. she was initially disqualified from the competition because she was born a male. but the pageant, owned by donald trump, has reversed its decision, saying she can compete if she meets canada's legal gender requirements. we told you about the violence in lexington, kentucky, that followed last night's march madness championship game. let's have the highlights now. it was kentucky and kansas facing off. the two winningest proms in college basketball history. kentucky got out early. the jayhawks were able to close to within five. they wouldn't get closer than that. kentucky wins 67-59, clinching the school's eighth men's basketball national title. their superstar, anthony davis, was named the final four's most outstanding player, despite only
