this morning, breaking news. more severe storms. >> the system that brought terror to north texas is on the move, now. but behind it, complete destruction. and incredible images of tractor-trailers literally flying through the air. and on the ground, survival stories. a grandmother who clung to her baby grandson, as the storm roared overhead. plus this morning, mitt romney's clean sweep of three, major primaries. a knockout punch to finally end the nomination. and the women of baylor, champions while doing something no college team's done before. also, the brouhaha over bond, james bond, that is. trading his martini for a beer.

good wednesday morning, everyone. the threat of dangerous weather is far from over. >> the powerful spring storm has moved east over the states of louisiana and mississippi. strong winds, even possibly a tornado, damaged homes in the city of new orleans overnight. >> and in dallas, they are waking up to major destruction, after a dozen or more twisters touched down. abc's diana alvear just arrived in one of the hard-hit neighborhoods in dallas. good morning, diana. >> reporter: rob and paula, good morning. not such a good morning for the community. look at what i'm holding in my hands. a piece of wood and a brick. both used to belong to that home or what's left in that home. there is an overturned car sitting in their yard. this shows the power of the storms combined.

it really is a miracle that no one was killed. the tornadoes tore through dallas neighborhoods on tuesday, leaving a devastating path of destruction. residents ran for cover, as roofs were blown off their homes. >> get in the house. >> reporter: in arlington, first graders wereold to duck and cover. the national weather service called at least two tornadoes large and extremely dangerous. the storms lifted several tractor-trailers off the ground, hurling them through the air. trucks that weigh as much as 30,000 pounds. >> to see this in front of your own eyes is phenomenal. it was phenomenal. >> reporter: a grandmother, baby sitting her grandson and two other children, is being called a hero, after keeping those children safe. she climbed into a bathtub and waited for the storm to pass. at one point, clinging to her grandson's feet, as the storm tried to pull him away. >> she saved his life. she stayed on him. and the baby, too. she kept all -- she had three of

them in there. kept them all alive. >> reporter: nearly 400 flights were canceled at the dallas/ft. worth airport. and golf ball-sized hail damaged more than 100 planes. jana davies witnessed the approaching storm while sitting on the runway. >> the sky was purple and green and orange. you see in the movies. immediately, when we got into the terminal, we were told to go to shelters in the terminal, which they're actually, most of them, are the restrooms. >> reporter: residents are now faced with the task of trying to salvage what little was left behind. >> it sounded like a train coming. it just hit the house. and went -- did about 20 to 30 seconds. when i came out, everything was destroyed. >> reporter: according to the national weather service, april is considered peak tornado season. we just started april, we could be in for a very long month. i have to tell you, rob and paula, i was one of those people

that was delayed for hours. i didn't even know if i was going to make it here. the good thing is the coast is clear here. and people can start to pick up the pieces. >> we hope this is not an omen for a rough spring to come, especially what happened over the winter there. driving in from the airport, what were you able to see on your way in this morning? >> reporter: you know what i saw? a whole lot of nothing because it was all foggy. the conditions here were really tough to drive in. as soon as i started making my way in this morning, you saw place blocking off every street. as i came in here, i had to wind my way around damage. it looks like somebody took these homes, put them in a blender, hit high, and poured them back on the ground. that's the kind of damage we're talking about. and your heart goes out to the people left here, who are left to salvage what they've got. >> amazing scenes of destruction. diana alvear, in texas this morning. the storms now, eastward, in louisiana and mississippi, now, in the crosshairs here. we'll have more on the storm

obama. mitt romney made a big statement. sweeping republican primaries in wisconsin, maryland and washington, d.c. knowing he's almost certain to be the gop nominee, romney's looking ahead to the general election, arguing president obama is out of touch. >> it's enough to make you think that years of flying around on air force one, surrounded by an adoring staff of true believers, telling you you're great and doing a great job, it's a enough to make you think you'd become a little out of touch. >> reporter: the obama campaign is ready to take on the fight with romney, taking him on in a television ad. >> attacking higher mileage standards and renewables. >> reporter: even the president himself is throwing punches. >> i can't remember a time when the choice between competing visions of our future has been so unambiguously clear. >> reporter: romney's main gop rival, rick santorum, vows to stay in the race. but pressure could build for him to drop out. romney's three-state victory

yesterday came from help from voters who had previously been skeptical of his candidacy. with his home state, pennsylvania, voting in three weeks, santorum says the race is only at halftime. >> who is ready to charge out of the locker room in pennsylvania for a strong second half? >> reporter: by abc news' estimates, santorum must capture 72% of the remaining delegates to capture the nomination. romney, on the other hand, needs 42%. paula and rob? >> tahman bradley. time for the weather across the nation. we mentioned earlier, that severe storm is moving east, targeting the gulf coast around new orleans, north into nashville. expect strong winds, hail and possible tornadoes. in the northeast, it's warm and dry to start. by evening, it will be cold and wet. >> expect seasonably low 50s out in the northwest. almost everywhere else, temps will be unusually high. readings in the 60s and 70s, in

welcome back, everybody. markets are lower this morning because of news out of washington that the federal reserve has no further plans to shore up the economy. tokyo's nikkei average plunged 230 points today. hong kong's hang seng is also closed today. in london, the ftse opened lower. on wall street, the dow was off 65 points yesterday. the nasdaq index slipped six. and speaking of the markets, there will soon be new rules against insider trading by congress. lawmakers will not be able to use confidential information they receive. and on top of that, they must disclose securities purchases more quickly. big layoffs are expected at yahoo! today, about 2,000 people. today's cuts will be about one in seven employees. it's expected that today's layoffs are just the first round and part of a larger reorganization. the internet company is trying to cut costs and change its focus. a third of supermarket customers say they have switched

dangerous weather is our top story this morning. up to a dozen tornadoes touched down in north texas, damaging homes and tossing tractor-trailers around like toys. there were some injuries, some severe. but amazingly, no one died. that stormy weather is taking a toll on this morning's road conditions, as you can imagine. including i-10, from houston to mobile. i-20, between montgomery and shreveport. and i-40, between raleigh and memphis. it will be west on i-5, from seattle north to northern california. >> if you're flying, delays are likely in new orleans and memphis, thanks to heavy rain and thunderstorms. the suspect in that mass shooting at a northern california university could be charged with murder later today. detectives say one goh said he wanted to get back at the school for expelling him, for behavior, possibly anger management

issues. >> and he wanted to get revenge at students who made fun of his broken english. now, police are looking for the gun he used in that deadly attack. about 30 students at a southern california college were pepper-sprayed last night, after they tried to push their way into a trustees meeting. they were angry over plans to quadruple the price. there was outrage over another pepper-spray dint at u.c. davis last year. and in new york, a giant construction crane snapped last night, killing one worker and injuring two others. it was a very risky operation with construction material all around. it happened where the subway is being extended. and in new jersey, fire crews managed to pull 20 dogs from a burning house. that includes seven puppies just days old and so small, each could fit in the palm of a hand. some needed emergency oxygen,

from a pet mask that engulfed their entire body. in other news, a slightly snarky keith olbermann appeared "the late show" with david letterman. oberman said he screwed up big. but then, he elaborated, if you buy a $10 million chandelier, you should have a house to put it in. that refers to obermann himself, and what would have been his salary at that network. the fda is investigating a salmonella outbreak they suspect may be linked to sushi. 9 people have been sickened in 19 states and the district of columbia. no one has died. investigators are focusing on six clusters of restaurants. they say that spicy tuna rolls are, quote, highly suspect. >> be careful. in sports news this morning, a big dose of perfection last night in denver, all thanks to
