home. >> burns, a maryland legislator, is leading up a petition drive to support a vote on a new state law legalizing same-sex marriages. >> a report there from tina davis from abc news. we spent a little time on this with politico abbey phillips. >> let's talk about all of that right now. i guess the president what they're mentioning is going on the view. that's a topic in the discussion on "the view." do you see it as a topic throughout the campaign? >> it's a topic for now because it's at the moment. last week, surprised people, forced republicans to respond to it. mitt romney did that on saturday at liberty university. but i think mostly the campaign and the romney campaign both want to get back to the economy. because i don't think gay marriage is an issue that either camp feels they can run successfully on. >> most people haven't pointed

out the timing of all of this. the joe biden interview that aired on "meet the press" sunday was taped on friday. then the president, of course, made the announcement this past week. it almost seemed to some that it was a distraction, obvious to others. >> yeah, it seems like a distraction. because i it's to the obama team's benefit not to talk about the economy when things are bad or not the way they would like it to be. this is a politically uncertain issue for him. the politics of it are so uncertain. and it's not something that they want to kind of wade into. the vice president's statements were not expected by the president's advisors. when they made them, they had to respond to them and the president did so the following tuesday by endorsing gay marriage by a move that i don't think surprised very many people. >> and long term impact

terror suspect and his lawyers have until tomorrow to submit a plea agreement about the attack in texas. nadal hassan the suspect in the shooting rampage claimed 13 people in 2009. john edwards' trial will continue. prosecutors rested their case last week. the former presidential candidate is accused of inappropriately using donations. instead of funding his campaign, the money went to hiring his mistrelsz. edwards pleaded not guilty. viva la france. the glamorous event kicks off on wednesday. one of the most hotly anticipated films is the paper boy starring nicole kidman and zac efron. the festival will last a week and a half. >> saturday is the preakness. it's at the pimlico race course in baltimore. and the big question is whether the kentucky derby winner i'll

well, it's graduation time for millions of college students across the country. >> and while this is an exciting time, of course, this is stressful time. many grads are back home with mom and dad. steve explains why. poised to graduate from the university of maryland. rather than start a new job and live on her own, she is, instead, moving back home. >> i'm not excited for it at all. >> ziane rose is days away from getting his degree in biology and heading to live with his dad. >> living under his roof, it's his rules again. that's tough to do. >> they're called the boomerhang generation. it's forcing a higher number

for me, it's back in the parent mode, it's 11:00 at night, 12:00 at night. >> high college loan debt is forcing those even with jobs to move back in with the parents. a reality that the class of 2012 is trying to live with. >> i didn't think i was going to be in this position, but now i am. it's not the best state of affairs but it's what i have to work with. >> unlike past generations, no longer a stigma attached to moving back home. many graduates plan to be there for six to 12 months with the hope that the economy will improve and they'll be able to find a job and move out on their own. >> we wish them the best of luck. >> we do.
