good tuesday morning, everybody. with his trial rapidly coming to a close, jerry sandusky himself could take the stand in his own defense as soon as today. >> defense attorneys told jurors the first time that they would hear from the former penn state assistant coach. abc's jim avila reports from pennsylvania. >> reporter: jerry sandusky began his uphill defense case, backed by former coaching colleagues and long-time friends. who in rapid-fire testimony told jurors sandusky is a local hero with a great reputation. and showering with boys was not unusual in the athletic world. but in the end, they were only character witnesses, shedding little light on the actual 51 abuse charges. >> sandusky has been portrayed by the prosecution as nothing less than a monster. what does the defense have? they have other people that see

him own know him differently. >> reporter: the defense won't take long. the judge telling jurors he expects them to get the case thursday. he did not tell them whether the defendant will take the stand, as sandusky's attorney earlier hinted. and as sandusky left court -- >> jerry what do you think of day one of your defense? >> reporter: he refused to confirm a witness box, to tell jurors who he told "the new york times" time months ago. >> these allegations are false. i didn't do those things. >> reporter: sandusky's wife of 46 years, dottie, is on the defense witness list. as is one of the couple's six adopted children, matt, who stands by his father. both were in court the first day. but not since because potential witnesses are excluded. the other five adopted sandusky children are largely silent and unseen. one daughter is often in court. but some wonder if sandusky should just spare his family, especially his wife. especially, say courtroom observers, if dottie sandusky is little more than another

glorified character witness and knows nothing about the specific charges against her husband. jim avila, abc news, bellfonte, pennsylvania. roger clemens has been acquitted of lying to congress about whether he used performance-enhancing drugs. it took jurors less than ten hours to reach their verdict in a trial that stretched for ten week. after the verdict, clemens fought back tears. >> all you media guys that know me and follow my career -- >> yeah. he was found not guilty. the investigation and trial have tarnished his reputation among fans and may prevent him from entering the hall of fame which he will be eligible for this coming fall. and the former college student accused of the web cam fine of his roommate.

dharun ravi spent 20 days of his 30-day sentence. the roommate, tyler clementi, committed suicide just days after the incident. in other news this morning, president obama and other top world leaders are wrapping up their summit in mexico later today. they're expected to announce a major agreement on shoring up the global economy. with a preview of this, here's abc's tahman bradley. >> reporter: world leaders meeting today at the g20 economic summit in mexico will announce a coordinated plan for job creation. for the crisis affecting the u.s. economy and his hope for re-election at stake, president obama is pushing europe to come up with a bold plan to create stability. >> now is a time, as we discussed, to make sure that all of us join to do what's necessary to stabilize the world financial system. to ensure that we are working

hand in hand to both grow the economy and create jobs. >> reporter: so far, it's been difficult to get euro zone countries to agree on anything meaningful, such as one organization, to police all of the banks in the 17 euro zone countries. also on mr. obama's agenda, candid talks with russian president vladimir putin. the two share common ground on trade and investment. but not much eye contact. >> they discussed the need to expand trade and investment between the united states and russia. both leaders are very much in agreement that more can be done. that there's great potential to create jobs and opportunity in both countries. >> reporter: the crisis in syria became the major focus of the meeting. in a subtle shift for both nations, the leaders said the syrians should choose their next government. president putin said he and mr. obama shared many commonalities. but he did not share what they were or how to end the violence. rob and paula? >> all right, tahman bradley,

live in washington for us. thanks, tahman. a major immigration shift was revealed overnight. for the first time, asians moving to the u.s. surpassed the number of hispanics. back in 2010, asians made up 36% of immigrants. 430,000 to 370,000 hispanics. the study attributes the rise to more visas being issued to specialized workers and investors. the most destructive wildfire in colorado history has now gutted at least 189 homes. 1,700 firefighters are battling the flames and near triple-digit heat. more than 90-square miles have been scorched thus far. the fire remains 45% contained. major wildfires are also burning from new mexico to california, as well as the northern rockies. and time, now, for a check of weather across the country on your tuesday morning. we have some hail, 70-mile-per-hour winds and also a chance of tornadoes around green bay, the twin cities, fargo and also sioux falls. showers from portland and

well, microsoft is mounting a serious challenge to apple's ipad. the company showed reporters its surface tablet computer, aimed more at entertaining than creating. it has a bigger screen than the ipad. and unlike the apple tablet, the covers can be converted into keyboards. it also comes into a built-in kick-stand. it's the first computer by the software giant. until now, microsoft has always been at the mercy of manufacturers. >> it looks like they can actually do a really nice job of it, in terms of design. in terms of components. and in terms of how the hardware and software works together. >> it looks as if the surface will be released this fall, along with windows 8.

no word, however, on the price tag. well, just as americans plan their summer vacations, of course, gas prices are plummeting. great news nationwide. prices have dropped another 4 cents in the last week to an average of $3.53 a gallon. but the savings are more dramatic in the western states. prices have dropped 18 cents in washington. 17 cents in oregon. and 13 cents in california on this last full day of spring, we might add. >> thank you for that reminder. now, it's spain that's worrying overseas investors. tokyo's nikkei average was off 65 points today. hong kong's hang seng losing 59. and in london, the ftse opening higher. on wall street, the dow fell 25 points monday. the nasdaq index, ticking up 23. and facebook stock is on a roll, gaining 20% in the last two weeks. while it hasn't returned to its initial public offering price yet, shares got a big boost, thanks to the company's acquisition of a facial
