good morning, everybody. i'm john muller. >> i'm sunny hoss tin. >> dangerous heat back for millions of americans. >> it's only part of severe weather. killing two men in texas who ran for cover during a soccer match. >> the swift thunderstorm surprised the players. they took refuge under a tree which was a fatal mistake. >> i souheard what sounded like bomb go off. i saw lightning hit the tree and burst to the ground. >> reporter: it struck three people. one man died instantly, another man died at the hospital and one died instantly. racing water stunned drivers in washington state and made roads impassable in arizona. drivers caught in the middle of fast-moving floods. parts of connecticut saw four

inches of rain overnight. today sizzling heat goes eastward. heat advisories for 13 states with near triple digits returning to chicago and st. louis. heat wave making drought conditions worse. this year already rivalrying the infamous dustball of the 1930s. >> that heat won't relent until later this week. that heat also not helping fire fighters in northern california. this morning we're getting a new view from the rugged frontlines of the robbers fire. the pictures coming from the fire fighters themselves. cruce shot video of the flames that was near the town of koufax wednesday. president obama holds his first town hal meeting of his campaign later today in ohio. he's expected to launch another round of attacks against mitt romney's financial dealings.

abc's abc's taman bradley has more. >> reporter: for a while, president obama was on the defensive about the economy. not anymore. the romney team lost control of the message as the obama team piles on. president obama is not letting up. cam papering in cincinnati today, the president will label mitt romney as a job destroyer. according to the campaign, mr. obama hit romney for corporate tax proposals, it's the latest of blistering attacks which changed the subject of the president's handling of the lackluster economy to questions about romney's time at bain capital. >> i don't want a pioneer in outsourcing, i want some insourcing. >> reporter: that's one of the president's main arguments that romney's investment firm, bain, outsourced jobs. romney said the outsourcing happened after he left in 1999.

s.e.c. documents list him as chairman and ceo for three years after that. the obama campaign said either romney was involved, or he committed a felony by inaccurately reflecting his role in the company. romney is demanding an apology. >> he has to say he's sorry for the attacks coming from his team. >> reporter: the president told wavy-tv romney should not hold his breath. >> we won't be apologizing. >> reporter: it's just a distraction. >> why is he doing this? because his policies failed us. >> reporter: mitt romney's tax returns have become an issue for the obama team, now some republicans said romney should replease more than he has. >> tahman bradley, thank you. athletes are moving into olympic village and worried about security flaws.

welcome back. there's uncertainty this morning over where gas prices headed. the national average is now $3.40 a gallon. that's 13 cents less than a month ago. 2 cents more than a week ago. crude oil prices in flux right now with question about demands in a global economy that may be slowing. >> and business economists worry that may be happening. a survey finds they are not very confident about short-term growth. they see less evidence of hiring and say gains and sales profits are disappearing. the government is reporting weak

job growth for three straight months. when new jobs are created, chances are men will get them. a major reason they've gone to men is the male-dominated industries are hiring again. men are also taking many jobs that once went to women. well t-was a cold weekend at the box office as "ice age continental drift" slid into first place. the animated film is also very popular in europe but opened with solid numbers right here in the u.s. it sold $46 million, in tickets this weekend.
