into. good morning, everybody. we begin this thursday with a difficult new day in aurora, colorado. nearly a week after the deadly shooting rampage. >> police with dealing with fresh evidence 2459 could point to missed clues and signals from the suspect. and family and friends of those kills are facing another day of saying good-bye. tahman bradley has the latest on the investigation and the long line of funerals. >> reporter: this morning, a huge clue about the suspected shooter. sources tell abc news james holmes may have mailed to the university of colorado, the school he attended until dropping out last month, a notebook detailing his plans to carry out the massacre. fox news quo quotes a law enforcement source containing full details about how holmes planned to kill people, including graphic images of

wounded are showing compassion. they say they'll limit or completely wipe out the victims' medical 3wi8s. >> wonderful news. thanks, tahman. the demand for guns has increased in the wake of the colorado ro shooting. gun control is once again an issue on the campaign trail. ak-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not criminals, said the president. me supports second amehmndment rights. holmes bought the guns legally after passing required background checks. and the presidential candidates will have the chance to debate on gun control and

other things. the first debate in october will be october 3rd. october 16th will be a town hall meeting. the third on october 22nd will focus on foreign affairs. i think i like the second one. >> a lot of analysts say the debates could be real turning point in the election. in other news this morning, the historic drought leaving more than half the country bone dry is about to deliver a financial blow in the american family. >> prices already on the rise will be driven up more. eggs and meat to milk. details from jim avila. >> one of the once on the bottom. >> reporter: shopping day for barbara webb. bracing for a sharp jump in food prices over the next nine months. >> of course i'm concerned. i'm concerned for the people who can't afford it. >> reporter: usda forecasts expecting a 5% food price hike. an expensive jolt brought on by

higher prices. >> the new normal for agriculture is going to be frequent episodes of very high temperatures. temperatures at which pretty much any crop doesn't go well. >> reporter: food is 7% of the people's budgets. expected to rise. jim avila, abc news. four window washers got stranded outside the 35th floor of a hotel in las vegas when their platform stalled. firefighters had to lower them to safety one by one. the rescue took three hours. the temperatures shot up to a scorching 104 degrees. >> one industry i don't think i will ever delve into. time for a look at the weather across the country. hot and humid in the northeast. and also violent etching storms possible. tornadoes could threaten new york, pittsburgh, and cleveland.

gay rights. supporters and opponents of same-sex marriage are planning democraten straights at chick-fil-a straupts next week. earlier this month, the ceo of the company said they do not support gay marriage. they say they do not discriminate on the basis of customers' sexual orientation. a toy company is suing lady gaga saying she and her handlers backed out of a deal for a doll that sings. the doll would have featured some of her outrageous costumes. the company, which also makes the popular bratz dolls, is seeking millions in damages. >> i can only imagine my daughter asking, why does this doll have a meat dress on? as michael jackson's family battles it out, his mother makes

daredevil felix baumgarner has pulled off an extreme sky dive. >> i think he pushed the limits of common sense. this is a dress rehearsal for a higher adventure. here's scott goldberg. >> reporter: anybody watching the early morning liftoff of a giant balloon carrying a space pod would be excused for thinking this guy is crazy. but felix says there's nothing crazy about careful planning. >> i don't think you have to be a lunatic. it's about input and output. >> reporter: he went to the edge of space, 96,000 feet into the sky and took the plunge. he went from 0 to 536 miles per hour. the freefall lasted 3:48. then he released his parachute and finished the 18-mile sky dive standing up.
