>> and we start with good news tonight. firefighters finally have one huge fire under control. now the question is who started it and why. >> the fires in oklahoma have destroyed dozens of homes damaged others and sent hundreds of residents fleeing. this fire just 30 miles from oklahoma city is now under control. >> the fire is slowing down due to weather conditions. we do have numerous units and resources coming in from out of the area to help us. >> but it was too late for some. >> i stayed as long as i could and i had to get out of there. when i left the fire was right

at my back door. >> some residents returned saturday but didn't find much left. oklahoma governor mary fallin toured while the ruins of some homes were still smoking. >> heart breaking because you know that families are losing their homes, they're losing their precious pictures, their memories. and the most important thing to these families is that they have their family members and thank goodness we didn't have any loss of life. >> the biggest challenge for fige firefighters is the record 113 degree heat. the grass lands already dry. but while the drought is a factor this fire may be arson. there are reports someone in a black ford pickup truck tossed burning newspapers out the window. >> the information that we have is that this was intentionally set and we're going under that premise. we're trying to locate the vehicle. we very much want to find that vehicle. >> the federal emergency

management agency is expected to evaluate the damage. >> an investigation surned way tonight into a close call at the airport in detroit. this comes just days after a similar incident involving three planes at reagan national. federal officials say none involved at reagan were on a collision course. instead administrator has said the planes flew too close together based on distanses established by regulators. being blamed on a manager and two management coordinators. traffic controllers had to reverse the runway pattern because of bad weather. there's been an arrest in the murder of a man inside his jewelry store. wong was killed a week ago friday. his body was found hours later when his concerned family called police. police say in addition to the

murder jewelry was also stolen from the store. the maryland man accused of threatening a work place massacre has been charged with a misdemeanor. fired from his job in capital heights. this the prosecutor expressed frustration with the law. he has officially been charged with misuse of a telephone. one year later -- and there are no new clues to what happened to a woman while in aruba. last seen snorkling with her friend who had taken out a $1 million life insurance policy on her before their trip. police held him as a suspect for months before releasing him due to a lack of evidence. he has maintained his innocence insisting the insurance policy was just part of a travel package. her family and friends held a vigil to mark the anniversary. a bizarre end to a deadly hit and run accident when a woman was struck and killed just after midnight on wednesday.

later in the day police put out the word they were looking for the woman's husband who owned the car in an accident. investigators found his body in a creek. the three children are now in protective custody. the aclu is expressing concerns about privacy when it comes to the use of red light and speed cameras. the organization has asked for more information. they want to know what becomes of the data captured by readers. maryland state police officials say the data is kept in its facility for 24 hours. however, the information is sent to an analysis center where it is kept for a year unless connected with an active investigation. turning to politics president obama made a swing through battleground virginia this week giving a tough talk about taxes during a stop at leaseburg. a large crowd of supporters gathered to hear the president speak at the high school on thursday night. the president criticized

republicans for sticking with their tax plan even though a recent study said it would burden lower and middle class americans. this was the first week the health care mandate insurance companies to provide certain benefits to women for free. they include extra septives breast feeding supplies and screening for sexually transmitted infection. however, not all insured women will have access because some insurance plans have grandfather status that may make them exempt. from health now to help. a state of the art operation just opened to help feed the region's hungry. the food bank spent close to a decade planning its new distribution center and this week, steven took a tour of the new facility. >> a gleaming structure in a northeast industrial park. this massive ware house with racks of shelves a giant refrigerator and plenty of space for unloading and stock piling all kinds of supplies is

>> seven son your side tonight with important information you need to know if you have any unpaid tickets. under the budget d.c. is changing the way it collects the debt with aggressive new measures that will target your paycheck tax returns even your car or home in an effort to make sure people pay up what they owe. even a special agency has been set up to make sure of it. >> whether you are a d.c. resident or not getting a ticket in the city seems like it happens to just about everyone. >> right now i probably owe about $100 worth of tickets.

>> if you don't pay up within 90 days the district is going to go after you more aggressively more than ever. >> we're coming to get them. >> debt collection is now being consolidated into one central office with expanded authority. the turn on the city's own employees and take money out of their pay check for unpaid tickets and dip into residents refunds. >> that's a drastic measure. >> i don't agree with it but i can see why. >> according to the new law the city will be able to suspend your license and permit and attach a lein to real and personal property until the debt is satisfied. >> i think that's too intense. i think maybe doubling the fines or having some consequence but leens and attachments that's too much. >> you live outside of d.c. you're not off the hook either. through special agreements with virginia and maryland the city will have the power to go after you more aggressively too. >> if i get a ticket in

maryland i pay. why shouldn't they pay? >> out of the 380 million of unpaid tickets half of that comes from marylanders alone and 80 million from virginia residents according to dmv. that's a sign current debt collection spending agencies isn't working. >> the way that it's been collected has been very haphazard and disorganized so some people typically those who actually are good about paying their debt pay and other people don't and that's not fair. >> and the goal is to rake in an additional $10 to million a year. officials are still hammering out the details of the new policy. a disaster declaration for president obama for the district in the wake of that powerful storm that swept there our declaration allows d.c. to tap into federal funds to help with the recovery of the storm

and the ones that follow. includes emergency work and repair or replacement of buildings. additional funding could be opened up later based on further damage assessments. traffic is tough all over our area but things are getting a little easier for people driving into one part of d.c. because the long awaited 95 southbound ramp that connects the bridge opened this week. the opening of the ramp comes during the tenth anniversary following a ceremonial crossing the ramp officially opened to the public monday afternoon both built in the 1960s and the first time that they've been connected. >> the name is the same but a new version of total recall is missing two things. arnold civil wars anythinger and sharon stone. plus our own star steve is back with a look at your sunday forecast comi

this is the coal front that makes it way to our area during the day tomorrow. and that's going to trigger the chance for some stronger showers and thunderstorms. especially late afternoon and into the evening and overnight hours. some of these storms may stick around until early monday morning. satellite and radar is quiet and dry for us. line of storms passing through central ohio at this hour not really going to impact us but we are going to look for clouds to increase during the day tomorrow. looking at our radar scanning the skies from the mountains all the way to the delmarva beaches no rain no thunderstorms to speak of but the tropics beginning to flair up. winds at 60 miles an hour maximum wind gusts 70. moves off to the west and northwest about 20 miles an hour crosses the yucatan by late wednesday and by thursday could reemerge across the gulf of mexico as a category 1 storm. of course the waters in the gulf are very warm.

worth watching over the coming days. also florence also a tropical storm expected to fizzle out as it moves into next week. here's our future cast next 48 hours will call for the clouds to increase during the day tomorrow. temperatures warm to around 95 degrees and then the showers, the thunderstorms will pick up in intensity later into the evening and overnight hours. and behind it not quite as humid but still hot. temperatures in the upper 0s. a little bit of patchy fog. 70 to 78 degrees. daytime highs 90 to 95. extended outlook. tomorrow afternoon keep your eye to the sky. we'll keep you updated. >> that cooldown to 88. you have the best way to spend a rainy sunday afternoon with a big tub of pop corn at the movies. and speaking of the movies
