>> this is abc 7 news washington weekly. on your side. >> our top story, the historic nuclear deal iran struck with the u.s. and other world powers. the six-month interim agreement will limit iran's nuclear program. in return, the sanctions on iran will be eased. many question if this deal could actually work. mark has the latest. >> the united states and other world powers reached an agreement with iran on its nuclear problem sunday. president obama says the six-

month accord is an important first step toward a comprehensive solution. >> today, that diplomacy opened up a new path toward a world that is more secure. a future in which we can verify that iran's nuclear program is peaceful and that it cannot build a nuclear weapon. >> iran agreed to curb its nuclear activities while crippling sanctions are eased. nothe iranian nation does seek nuclear weapons. >> in congress, there is concern on both sides of the aisle that this deal could by iran more time to develop a nuclear weapon. >> we are concerned as to whether iran will give up -- live up to these commitments. >> we trusted the iranians before just like the north koreans on nuclear issues. what have we gotten for it? hide theirue to development of these weapons. >> israel is dead set against a deal with iran. hashis is a regime that consistently talked about wiping my country off the map.

they have consistently called israel a cancer that has to be removed. we would be irresponsible not to take those threats seriously. be aime minister would responsible and not taking steps to protect the people of israel. >> the united states says israel will be safer because of video since it limits iran's nuclear capabilities and gives the u.s. new insight into the nuclear program. vows no one will be deceived by a run. >> earlier tonight, i spoke with politico about reaction to iran's nuclear deal. >> the reaction from congressional hawks was basically what you would expect. they don't like the deal. they don't even like the idea of a deal never mind the specifics. a lot of them were really upset that it doesn't require iran to comply with existing u.s. sanctions. i think it was just about a couple weeks ago when secretary kerry was on the hill.

there were many who were trying to push for additional sanctions. terry pointed out this morning that even when we increased sanctions, iran has continued with its program. will or be a continued push for more sanctions? >> yes. all the hawkish senators, the pro-you would expect to be israel, strong allies of israel, are going to be out there pushing for more sanctions. ,hether or not they will get it there will be some democratic desire to back the deal even though some democrats are criticizing it -- i don't think necessarily you are going to see more sanctions right away. >> you mentioned chuck schumer. a strong ally of the white house but a strong supporter of the state of israel. the reaction came as we expected with prime minister netanyahu saying this is a historic mistake. >> for netanyahu, this is a major domestic problem for him.
