and more dangerous. officials are investigating a fiery crash landing in aspen, colorado. one person killed and two others injured. a jet came down and flipped over and burst into flames. >> it hit and it flipped. there were smoke and had a big ball of flames. >> another flight skidded off the runway at chicago o'hare. we are losing the engine. we're losing engine power. >> this pilot was forced to land on a busy expressway. and a busy so storm pounding the midwest. dangerousre extremely conditions. i urge people to heed the warning and take the necessary precautions to stay safe. coldhools are going to be monday in the windy city and throughout the midwest. snow and ice can wreak havoc on the roads.

it is some of the coldest weather in decades. wind chill is plunging far below zero. there is nothing people can do except bundle up and ride it out. abc news, new york. >> tomorrow congress returns to work. there will be plenty on the agenda. i spoke with a politico reporter. >> when they get back to session, the order of business will definitely be to work on the package of unemployment benefits. there is a three-month month deal on the table of the senate. the three-month package will extend the unemployment benefits that expired back in december as a temporary fix that will allow them to work on them or long- term solution. there's also a push for other items that the upper relations committee will have to deal with in terms of where the dollars

will go. bill thatlso the farm will need to be dealt with and transportation bills that will have to be dealt with that are left on the table from last time. >> that sound like quite a bit on their plate. what many of them get approved? >> good question. it looks like appropriations process is something that will be able to be hammered out. the farm bill and transportation bill are things that haven't worked on on the past. things --the types of that has been worked on in the past. those are the types of things that -- in the senate, it has a decent shot of passing. the key part is how it will be paid for. that will determine whether it can get their the republican house. that is why republicans have been saying, how will we pay for it? yeah, as far as for minimum wage, forget about it? >> certainly not immediately.

we do see a big push from democrats this year that want to bush solutions to what they perceive as income inequality. -- to push solutions to what they perceive as income inequality. they were speaking out about why unemployment should be suspended. he got slammed into -- or that. supportshows that many raising the minimum wage and extending unemployment benefits. >> during the president's last press conference before he went to hawaii for two weeks. he sounded depressed in that press conference. he also said hopeful about his agenda, including immigration reform and all of these big ideas. what is on his plate for 2014? >> again, a very important question that you raised. what you see with him is that

the things he keeps coming back to -- immigration reform is something that he campaigned on. he continues to push for it. the question is whether it can get done. the house has spoken about possibly dealing with in piecemeal solutions. i one hand, use the congress and the president really go big. on the other hand, you will see them really go small. it is a governmental. you sign in the last session of congress before last year. lastu saw it in the session of congress before last year. they had a lot of difficulty with those. they need to take measured approaches. >> there'll not get anything big in the election year. thank you. appreciate it. break in the new year. there is a grace period for drivers breaking the law for new

>> a murder trial is set to begin tomorrow for a man charged with killing his wife. the 91-year-old in the georgetown home. he was -- she was found beaten and strangled in 2011. there is a debate over his mental and physical health. >> a d.c. chief will hold a community meeting in southeast. she will discuss a series of cases involving d.c. officer is in trouble with the law, including one that is accused of running a prostitution ring involving teenage girls. that is an addition to another officer who is charged with child photography. he later committed suicide. >> on saturday, democrat mcauliffe will be sworn in as a

cold weather is coming. it will be hard to tell for the next few hours. temperatures will rise. this is one of those rare exceptions where you will see that happen. 41 at the airport. winds out of the southwest at around nine miles per hour. we still have a lot of fog out there. we are at 41 degrees. temperatures will continue to increase. the weatherbug shows 40 in the district. up to 42 degrees. look at maryland. they are at 57. they could make it to the 60's in the next few hours. this is ahead of the cold front. long.l not last the cold air is off to the west of us. hagerstown and winchester, all around the freezing mark.

freezing rain all day long. they have an ice storm warning. for us, nothing like that. light rain out there. temperatures well above freezing. off to the west of us, this is the cold front. satellite and radar, this is the front. this front will initially bring us rain. once this storm moves on off, the front will move toward the east. we will look for a change over the snow. not a lot of snow. the winds will start to pick up. cold air will funnel in from the north and the west. willors will be posted and expand to include alexandria and montgomery and fairfax. this is until 6:00 in the morning. visibility half a mile.
