all the closings at the top and bottom of our screen and you can t the most updated list at wjla.com. >> we're going to be in storm watch with you for the next three hours. jacqui jeras is standing by to give us our first soverpbes what is -- sense of what is cominging in this morning. >> we're not waking up to anything white just yet but we are under the winter storm warning for the panel of six or more inches of snowfall. let's walk you through this. we'll start off by showing you some live super doppler. we have several hours to go as our temperatures continue the drop. we'll watch snow eventually take over our area. notice on the satellite and radar picture, it doesn't look too bad at this time, but it is going to be intensifying as soon

as it gets on top of us and we'll g get the brunt of this storm and the worst of it comes after noon. even though surface temperatures are above freezing in in spots, this is still going to be an all-snow event. here is what you need to know for today. the morning commute, dry. no problem. then you want to start thinking about staying put. the p.m. commute is expected to be slow and very snowy. the heaviest snow coming in between noon and 6:00 or 7:00. temperature also steadily be dropping all day long. concern after the snow stops tonight that we'll have blowing and drifting of snow that could create ground blizard conditions mean ing that the snow will be blowing across the street in front you've creating a visibility problem.

going to be down between 5-15 degrees. i'll have more about timing and we'll talk about snowfall totals more specifically coming up when i see you again. let's get some breaking traffic news. what's happening, amanda meadows? >> we have reports of an accident that turned into a police event on the inner loop near route-50. you're running into some delays thment this is right before you get to 50 and all lanes are closed. there is a slight slowdown there on the inner loop. here is the deal. you are going to get detoured because all lanes are blocked. they are detouring you and you'll exit on the route 704. stay to the right and rejoin left-bound 50 and exit the inner loop past the crash. it is a bit of a workaround but they are detouring you.

if you can avoid that area, use the b.w. parkway instead, that would be your best bet this morning. not looking too bad on the irginia side of the beltway. coming from fredericksburg into the beltway, you are good to go. no delays or problems. we have a live shot for you. just to show you current onditions on the bridge. good conditions in both directions there. >> rail service is expected to start the day on a regular weekday schedule. the service may be reduced due to expected low ridership. bus service is also expected to start with a normal schedule.

police charged zakieya avery and monifa sanford with murder. a neighbor noticed a child left in a car. friday morning another neighbor called 911 when she noticed a bloody knife. police released both 911 cars. >> >> i'm being attacked by two females. > you need to back off me, ma'am. >> >> in the car outside, there is a knife with blood. >> police credit the woman who called 911 with saving the two children's lives. they shared a delusion this children were possessed and tried to perform an exorcism. >> a student was ambushed and critically injured. >> the governor said he is not sure if water is safe to drink. >> and we continue to be on storm watch.

>> 4:09 now. time check weather. we know snow is on the way. >> apparently a lot of it. jacqui jeras that is weather. what is this, a storm advisory? >> it is a winter storm warning. the confidence is high this is going to be a big, impactful storm. this is not going to be a snowmageddon, but we will be seeing heavy snow. it is going to be coming in that afternoon into the evening commute in terms of everything peaking. that is the people get out and everything is fine and then they get caught in the afternoon. you need to get out and do

whatever you need to do. our wind-chill factor is 34. the snow will be developing by the middle of the morning. that is what we're expecting. this is just for the metro area. 4-8 inches. now it is possible we could see higher amounts and i think it is going to be isolated. we're not going to see one big swath of the same numbers across the region. 8-10 inches possible. what are the chances we get less? less than 5%, so not great. we expect to see 4-8. plan on that but be prepared for more. what i like about it is that it shows the heaviest swath of snow just to the north and west in d.c.. aithersburg towards ashburn, odbridge, could see slightly less numbers. d.c. itself, 5-inches is a good

number to think about. 7:00, no problem. 30 degrees. by 11:00 we're going to be seeing snow. notice these temperatures dropping throughout the day. we'll see heavier snowfall and tapering off with a couple of flurries later on through the evening hours. the worst of the winds will be overnight. the wind chill advisory has been issued tonight from 6:00 until noon on wednesday. we'll show you that wind-chill factors already this afternoon are going to be down here into the teens and as we head into the evening hours, look at this. subzero in many spots. we're expecting dangerous wind chills. it is going to be worse than the rest of us. tomorrow afternoon, we're still only talking teens at best. that cold air is going to stick around for the rest of the workweek.

let's get the latest on the roads. >> thank you. we're startinging the morning off with a bang. we have a crash block all lanes on the inner loop coming down from college park. this is pretty far away from the actual incident. you can see that all lanes are blocked on the inner loop and you're only seeing cars come off of that offramp. that is the detour coming from 50 westbound. inner loop closed at route-50. they are detouring you at this time on to 50 and then on to 704. you take a right there and rejoin westbound 50 and get on the inner loop past that crash. police are detouring you around that. you might want to jump off on 95 and avoid those delays. luckily that is only the thing going on right now. the beltway moves along nicely, if you are coming from the

>> we are back on storm watch this morning. we'll take a live look outside. all is quiet now but that will quickly change as we are under this winter storm advisory starting at 7:00 this morning. the majority to have school districts in our area are closed, so if you looking for a day to hit the snooze button today is probably it. we just got word that the federal government has closed for the day so you guys can head back to bed as well. >> authorities are searching for a gunman after a shooting in eastern pennsylvania. a student was shot and wound monday night as he sat in his car. he is listed in critical but stable condition. school officials say the campus is secure but are telling students to remain inside until 6:00 this morning. >> the naval criminal

investigative service investigating the stabbing of a marine from west virginia. a marine spokesperson said she was attacked with a sharp object early sunday morning. investigators believe another marine is behind the attack and is now in custody. >> new this morning, encouraging news for maryland resident departments who could not enroll in the state's website because of computer problems. the senate voted to adopt a favorable report on the measure that sends the bill to the house. it would allow people to enroll in an already existing state insurance pool. >> west virginia residents aring conflicted information about the safety of their water. 300,000 people were told not to use their water january 9 but then the ban was listed. the president of west virginia

company repeated his statement that the water is now safe but the governor said he could not guarantee the safety of all the water. he said it is up to each person to decide if they want to use it. >> people in chicago have some shoveling to do this morning and what we will have to do later. lake-effect snow dumped several inches. the lows were around zero the wind chill is expected to be around 20 below. >> it is going to be subzero. i don't know that we'll get down to negative 20. it is a possibility i think tomorrow morning. cold is going to be a big story to go along with this. it will be a light snow. it is not that heart attack snow that is so difficult. but it is going to stay cold all

week long so you're going to have have to shovel. >> it is not going melt. >> exactly. 38 now, it doesn't feel too bad. aking up to fairly train quill -- tranquil conditions. 35 in martinsburg. 34 in winchester. manassas is at 30. temperatures to the west are colder. the colder air will continue to advance throughout our area throughout the day today. this is as good as it gets in terms of the temperatures. notice it doesn't look like a heck of a lot as it started out into the midwest. a little lake enhancement. look at that little ban coming into lake michigan. for us, watch for the system to trek just to our south and it is expected to intensify as it moves off to the coast this

afternoon. our wind also change direction coming in east/northeast and notice with high pressure, the low to the east, that snow and that gradient, the difference between pressures that drives the wind and so our winds are going to be extremely strong, especially overnight tonight. we could be talking gusts around 40 miles per hour. by 9:00 this morning, i think we can start to see it from frederick to martinsburg to winchester. by noon, everybody should be starting to get some of that action and notice this computer model wanting to put in a little bit of light rain. the evening hours, things will start to diminish and slowly moving out from northwest the southeast, i think everybody is going to be done. skies will clear out tonight and you're really going feel that cold. how much snowfall are we talking about? everybody should be prepared for

4-8 inches of snowfall but there are going to be some higher amounts. we have this sweet spot in here to the north and west of d.c. where we have the greatest potential of seeing 8-10 inches. some of these numbers might be a little bit overdone. keep that in mind. cold air is in so everything that hits will stick. we have a very high snow-to-liquid ratio. temperatures are froze until we get snow. this time around we're talking a 15-1 ratio. maybe a 20-1 ratio. that is why it is tough to predict some of these numbers. a big impact for the evening commute. forecast today, snow, windy, falling temperatures in the twenty. wind chills in the teens to single digits. tonight snow ending and clearing overnight. these are our morning temperatures tomorrow.

their hands on information stolen during the target security breach. they used the security information to buy tens of thousands of dollars of up thes this month. there is currently no connection between that case and the vex into the target security breach case itself. more device including smart refrigerators are becoming harkts for hackers hungry for people's data. these devices are poorly updated. i would have to say a hacker would be disapointed if he were to try to hack into my refrigerator. mustard. >> orange juice and bottles of water. >> they would be disappointed. >> a brazen crime.
