good monday morning. i'm marci gonzalez if for diana perez. >> and i'm john muller. we begin with a new arctic blast facing the country. this could be the coldest one yet. dangerous temperatures forced some schools to close in minnesota. >> take a look at this video. a rare phenomenon caught on camera in idaho. it's called an ice disk. the extremely low temperature causes slow-moving water to freeze. m mary bruce has more. >> reporter: you think this is bad, it's about to get worse. some of the coldest air of the season, an arctic blast expected to rival the polar plunge from earlier this month. freezing rain, sleet, and snow

expected as far south as texas. winter storm watch is issued tomorrow for all of the gulf coast states. over the weekend, the midwest smacked with howling blizzards. frigid winds forcing schools to close today. blinding snow. >> you're lucky to see 10, 15 feet in front of your car. >> reporter: a massive 33-car pileup outside of detroit. now the race is on the clear the snow before it turns to ice. >> it will be a hard freeze. it doesn't matter what you put on it. it's not going to move. >> reporter: in wisconsin, salt is on short supply. >> the town has used it's entire allocation of salt for the 2013-2014 season. >> reporter: mary bruce, abc news, washington. the northeast will climb

welcome back. there's good news this morning for drivers. gas prices are down an average of 3 1/2 cents in the past two weeks to $3.31 a gallon. in california, gas fell almost eight cents a gal lo. the highest average price is in san diego. it will cost three cents more to mail a letter today. posting rates went up yesterday to 49 crepts fn an envelope. if you have stamps that say forever on them, they're still good to mail the letter. >>. it's costing more to fly. the world's airlines are collecting more than $27 billion a year in fees. the most hated fee is for baggage, named by almost half of the flyers surveyed byir fair

trip. the police say they have the gunman's journlg from the mall shooting on friday. darion aguilar shot two people to death before turning the gun on himself. the official search for a colorado woman is over. but family and friends say they'll continue t search. she disappeared nearly two weeks ago. a search over the weekend turned up no sign of the 33-year-old woman and police have found no evidence of a crime. she and her husband just returned from a two-year trip around the world. took 30 seconds for burglars to smash their way into a gun shop and make off with rifles. they took 35 fire arms. they found the car abandoned not far away. the burglars are still on the loose. after his arrest in miami, justin bieber is getting some r and r at a resort in panama.
