here's juju chang with what we're calling a "nightline" love lab. >> reporter: we're at the world bar in new york city for a speed dating event. eight men, seven women and just eight minutes to decide if there's a love connection. but what no one knows is that today there's a ringer in their midst. meet lindsay. she's a professional actress. >> generally a guy who's interested in you just for your looks doesn't ask you any questions. just kind of like hey. >> this story all started with an online dating profile that went viral a couple of months ago. aaron carter fan. appearance? fabulous. personality, not so much. famous past times, knocking cups out of the hands of the homeless and tricking boyfriends to thinking she was pregnant. she turned out to be a social experiment conjured up by a comedy writer. >> i wanted to see if there was a lower limit of how awful a woman could be before men wouldn't message her own dating websites. >> over 1,000 men still wanted

to date her. with nearly 40% of american singles looking for love online. relationship coach donna barnes said men just can't help themselves. >> it all starts visually for a man as far as attraction. >> you say visual, i say shal w shallow. >> okay, so men are shallow online. but surely they wouldn't be as blinded by beauty in person. well, we decided to find out. which brings us back to the world bar and our ringer, lindsay. tonight, we asked her to be not just beautiful, but obnoxious in that same special aaron carter fan way. >> one time i did sleep with my cle college roommate's boyfriend, but i couldn't help it. he was hot. he kind of looked like you. at the end of the night, they would have a chance to decide who they would be willing to date again. will they choose our despicable beauty? >> my friends call me the goddess. >> she's not going to make it easy. mike is taken aback. >> i try to play it up.

>> reexercised two hours a day for six days a week. >> i'm a little bit nervous. >> drum roll, please. >> at the end, he lost a staggering 85 pounds. >> 256.2! >> but the real challenge came after the cameras were off. >> when you don't have a motivating goal like stepping on a scale for all your friends. they're all cheering, it's more difficult to maintain. >> we're going to the gym and it's 6:20 in the morning. it's cold, it's dark. this is where you find out who you are and what you're made of. >> rockie transformed his entire way of life, losing a staggering 140 pounds. planning his entire day around workouts and small meals. >> i run, i do tread meal. fitness revolution is three to four days a week. >> i'm humble in this arena. i'm still not happy, though. i mean, i have a goal in mind. >> which is? >> 240 pounds.

>> nice work. >> michael was another contest assistant on "fat chef." >> i was so disgusted at how far i let myself go. >> he, too, faced a similar struggle after the show ended. >> 430.0. just about 80 pounds. >> when i started "fat chef" i was just as 500 pounds. in that four months, i lost 100 pounds. >> he lost an additional 60 pounds after the show, but when his bakery business went under, the stress took over. >> michael gained back 20 pounds in the last year. >> the hardest thing for my diet when i had to close my business was the stress. the stress was overwhelming. and, you know, and whenever i have that, that's when you really make bad choices. i'm an emotional eater. but i recognized it and i stopped it quick. and i erased it. >> now he works as an executive pastry chef in new york city. and michael says he's back on track. >> so right now, i'm 360. i want to get down to 260. i need to lose 100 pounds to be

it was quite a show in court today. oscar pistorius on trial for murdering his girlfriend, the model ree ve a steenkamp. burying his head in his hands, coffering his ears, even hiding his face. will this display help or hurt his case. oscar pistorius appeared to be at his emotional breaking point. >> the screams that sounded like fighting. it was more like someone being attacked.

>> as neighbor charles johnson testified, pistorius seemed to be wiping tears from his eyes. pistorius, south africa's olympic hero is accused of murdering his girlfriend, model reeva steenkamp. he held his head in his hands, covered his ears and rubbed his eyes. and then there was this. pistorius gagging and wretching as neighborhood radioologist explained the state in which he found reeva's body. it was evidently difficult for pistorius to be brought back to that evening. >> i remember the first thing he said when i got there was that -- he said i shot her. i thought she was a burglar and i shot her. >> during cross-examination, he said pistorius looked sincere in his grief. even up to the point they feared pistorius may be suicidal. >> making promises to god.
