well, good monday morning to you. >> i'm devin guyer. we begin with the severe weather threat for millions of americans. a strong line of damaging storms from the mid-atlantic to the plains. >> the storms with powerful winds and downpours spanning multiple days. the powerful storm system already brought damaging winds to a ohio campground. >> they were down there digging through it, trying to find the guy. they finally got him out, put him on a back board. >> reporter: this semi truck flipped on its side near columbus. this man's friend and dog were trapped inside. >> i had to do my superman stuff. that's my pride and joy, my dog. >> reporter: power knocked out to thousands in the phoenix

evening. back to you. >> the high temps in washington state are not helping fire crews. they battle several spreading wildfires there. temperatures were 100 and over. thunderstorms in the north and central cascades could cause lightning strix potentially sparking new fires. severe weather in florida cut power to the monorail. there were thunderstorms when the elevated train stopped sunday afternoon. a mechanized lift helped get some passengers down. others were able to get out on their own. now to the escalating conflict in the middle east, on the brink of an all-out war. with both sides ignoring international calls for a cease-fire. >> hamas withstood more bombs overnight. >> tahman bradley is live with more. good morning, tahman. >> reporter: good morning, reena.

good morning, devin. this bombing is relentless. neither side is talking about backing down. israeli rockets rain down on gaza, thousands of palestinians are on the move. these ambulances carried injured palestinians into egypt. this convoy carries 150 americans trying to escape. >> the bombs would come randomly. >> reporter: at this school, classrooms are now shelters for the displaced. many people packing up and leaving after israel dropped leaflets saying they were going the bomb their neighborhoods. since the operations began nearly a week ago, the israelis have launched more than 1300 air strikes targeting hamas installations and their long-range rocket launchers. >> they're embedding these rockets that they're firing wholesale into our cities. terrorist rocketing trying to kill as many as they can.

a woman who lives near the airport took this photo because the plain was circling so low and made a loud noise. the pilot called air traffic control. >> flames are coming out of the number one engine. >> are you sure you saw flames? >> there was something going on over there. there's smoke. >> that fire shut down one of the engines and several tires blew out when the plane landed. fortunately, none of the 313 people on board were hurt. off the coast of italy now, the the "costa concordia" cruise ship is being refloated. it's being raised from the water. it will soon be towed to genoa. 32 people died when the ship ran aground and tipped over. an american couple were among the dead. sergeant bowe bergdahl is reportedly returning to active duty six weeks after being released by the taliban. he's finished therapy and

counsel following his five years of captivity. he's expected to go back to life as a regular soldier as early as today. he'll be working at a texas army base. he's expected to meet with military investigators. malala yousafzai is in nigeria where she's met with families of girls kidnapped by a terrorist group. she turned 17 on saturday. her birthday wish is to bring back our girls now and alive. she had this message for the relatives. >> you are really brave parents. really brave parents who have taken this step to speak up for their daughters and the the right of education. >> malala became an inspiration after being shot by the taliban for going to school. our own amy robach is with her for a special interview later on "good morning america." well, this morning, germany is set to be waumd home as world cup champion soccer team.

[ gunfire ] that happened early yesterday morning outside a nightclub in stamford, connecticut. the man seen firing in the video was arrested soon after. five people were wounded in the incident. none suffered life-threatening wounds. the suspect's mother claims the shooting took place after her son was jumped in the club. one of the young women held in a cleveland house of horrors for a decade is taking another step to a normal life.

michelle night has changed her name to lily rose lee. she is not a celebrity and gets annoyed when people want to snap her picture without asking first. a dramatic rescue escape in the french alps. patrick sweeney was swept you had in an avalanche along with his 9-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter. the kids were trying to become the youngest to scale the area known as the corridor of death. this mishap is the focus of parents allowing children to take too many risks. >> i was pretty scared. i was sort of stuck, because shannon and i were on each other. so, it was hard to get up at first. >> both kids were tethered to their dad. this was able to -- they were able to bury his ax to chemothe family from going down further. quite a scene from a pool party over the weekend.

a jeep at the bottom of the pool after crashing through the fence. one of the the guys who jumped in was forced into action. >> everyone is scream, save that woman, save that woman. i swim over to the jeep right there. there's a woman. she had the safety belt on. i pulled her out of the vehicle. threw her on to the deck. >> thankfully, she didn't suffer any injuries. her jeep was lifted out of the water. it remains unclear why the whole incident took place. the world cup we mentioned earlier. it's party time in germany. >> how did they do it? highlights from espn. welcome inside "sportscenter." i'm robert flores. brazil did not have a chance to win the world cup finals on sunday. most brazilians found themselves rooting for germany to deny their bitter rival, argentina, in the title game. here we go. these two countries meeting for a third time in the world cup final.
