on michael brown found that the teenager was shot six times, including twice in the head. earlier tonight police used tear gas after they say protesters threw molotov cocktails at them. can you see this was the scene. a wild one earlier today. these are live pictures from ferguson, suburb of st. louis. kerr few is supposed to begin in just about an hour and a half local time. let's get more now from abc's marcy gonzalez. >> again tonight officers are trying to clear the streets. curfew back into effect, people disregarding the curfew. officers in full riot gear, smoke bombs and tear gas. the ongoing outrage in this community sparked by the shooting death of unarmed teenager by an officer last weekend. during a rally today, the captain in charge of keeping the peace here shared his sympathy for his parents.

shootout and attempted carjacking. it began at 2:45 in the morning. off-duty d.c. police officer was driving in her own car when somebody in a burgundy nissan altima with new york plates started shooting at her. her vehicle was struck and she followed this vehicle, perpetrator's vehicle in an effort to get the tag. >> the group got away. their next stop southern and pennsylvania avenue southeast, another off-duty d.c. police officer in his own s.u.v. were sitting at a red light when they opened fire again. >> he was struck multiple types, hit by gunfire and car struck multiple times. they continued to ram into the deck's car. >> shot four times thifere also briefly tried to follow the gunman but the group headed into prince george's county. officers there chased the car back into d.c. >> at some point we know it goes down around r.f.k. stadium. >> the wild ride came to an end in northeast d.c. two men bailed out of the car,

weinstein home. when teachers in st. mary's county go back to school this fall, they say they won't be doing any extra unpaid work. unhappy with their current pay, teachers say they don't expect them to supervise after-school activities or even homework. when schools reopen monday, the student-teacher relationship will be a very different one. teachers plan to put a stop to all of the extra izz for years from assigning homework to working overtime or volunteering for extra crklar activities after hours. >> definitely really involved in the extracurricular activities. it meant a lot to my high school career. >> the back-to-basics concept as it's called was born out of frustration and by social studies teacher shawn sayers. >> if we need to take more time to make sure kids are successful, great. but i don't want to see teachers stay 5:30, 6:00 when they get into the building at 6:30. >> the union said teachers are

no later than 12:10 tuesday morning to make sure they make the last blue or silver line trains to springfield or east. entrances at other stations will close at normal times but riders will be able to exit at all stations. unless the supreme court intervenes, virginia could begin issuing marriage licenses to gay couples on august 21. a federal appeals court denied a request to delay its ruling, which struck down virginia's same-sex marriage ban. supporters of the ban say they will ask the supreme court to stay the ruling. and on saturday, you're invited to the first birthday party at the national zoo. visitors will receive fun treats throughout the day and get a chance to create a birthday card for the giant panda. one years old. they grow fast. >> coming up -- find out why some men say they're facing thousands of dollars in fines just for helping people in need.

coda found a second. >> he apprehended that subject and they got into a little bit he fell to the floor below. >> coda fell eight feet landing hard and signaling his elbow in half. his partner heard his cries but first worked with another officer thooned cuff the suspects and before she could get to coda, he already climbed back up the stairs, despite barely being able to walk to make sure she was safe and the mission complete. >> incredible feeling because, you know, no matter what he's going to have my back. >> due to his bravery, coda is one of the eight finalists in the american humane association 2014 hero dog contest. it's up pot public to -- up to the public to select a winner. vote online once a day through september 15. after three surgeries and many months of rehab, coda's still working on his strength and conditioning but she says he's anxious to return to duty just
