suit? could isis hit us at home? straight to the white house and abc's jeff zeleny, good morning to you, jeff. >> reporter: good morning, dan. you're right the president is trying to strike that balance between warning and reassuring americans. as his team is still weighing how to confront the rising threat of islamic extremism hitting closer to home. >> strong comments from president obama about the threat from the militant islamic group isis. speaking to supporters on friday, he says the world has always been messy, but images on social media of beheadings, mass executions and attacks have only heightened our fears and the president saying we will get through these challenges times just like we have in the past. the president's words coming just as the united kingdom raised its terror level threat to fear. a risk of an attack is highly likely. >> we're facing a deeper threat to our security than we have known before. >> reporter: no changes in u.s. warnings. this morning, there are rising

he's simply trying to send the message he's not rushing into another war. dan. >> a lot more to come, jeff zeleny, thank you. moving on this morning we're learning a lot more about the condition of joan rivers, the hollywood legend whose career has been equal parts, comedy, controversy and cosmetic surgery. she was rushed to mt. sinai hospital here in new york city and that is where we find abc's linzie janis with the very latest. linzie, good morning to you. >> reporter: she was having a procedure on her throat when she went into cardiac arrest. she's been in a medically induced coma here ever since and this morning no word on her chances of making a full recovery. this morning sources tell abc news that joan rivers lay unconscious in a new york city hospital. doctors keeping her sedated until they are more comfortable with her condition. the comedian has been under supervision for nearly 48 hours, since thursday morning when she was rushed to the hospital after suffering cardiac arrest during

a procedure at an endoscopy clinic. her recovery likely hinges on how long she was without oxygen. >> every minute that the brain goes without good oxygenated blood flow can cause serious damage. >> reporter: melissa rivers describing her mother's condition as serious and asking for prayers. just hours before her procedure, rivers was on a new york city stage making people laugh in typical joan fashion. >> i saw what's going on under my chin, i don't want to be the one the president has to pardon on thanksgivi. >> in less than a week ago the funny woman and tv icon was dishing out red carpet jokes on e!'s "fashion police." she's always been open about health discussing a scare on "joan and melissa:joan knows

rescue several trapped miners. rescue crews have been working around the clock to try to reach 13 gold miners stuck underground for more than 24 hours. 11 managed to get out alive after that man collapsed. authorities were alerted of the landslide late thursday after losing contact with the workers who are believed to be about 165 feet below the surface. now to the crisis in ukraine. one of their fighter jets hassen about shot down by a russian missile in the eastern part of that country. this has european foreign ministers say thousands of russian troops, thousands of them are inside ukraine. more than previously thought. russian officials denied if they have any troops from ukraine. one official says -- one said satellite images purporting to show russian ground forces inside ukraine from a computer ga game. a man who is an escaped press. dequan blackmon somehow managed

to get away from officers transferring him running into the woods. blackmon, who is facing attempted murder charges is unarmed but very dangerous. take a look at this video. it's a yacht captured on a cell phone video. huge yacht on fire in texas. the 45-foot vessel was engulfed in flames just as it was going under the brink. everyone on board managed to escape. the repoowner was reportingly sd it off when it went up in flames. >> fontana, california, a russian driver was attempting to turn turn four and somehow lost control, amazing there, crashing into three other cars. the first russian to race in that series is in serious condition. three other drivers were not seriously hurt. the final takes place tonight. finally, president obama is

taking on his critics this time for his fashion statement also known as tangate. he lit up social media or his attire did after he decided to don a light tan suit. during a visit to rhode island yesterday, friday, the president was switched back to a dark suit but said he liked the tan shoot and chose a light color in his words to claim every bit of summer he can. looks like a fan agreed giving him a high-five during his arrive. i checked some of the intercomments about it online, sad, terrible and whacked. i like it. >> let the guy do his job and keep picking on him. >> we had a little bit of a who wore it better. split screen we'll show you between president obama and this guy, dr. roberto cavalli. who wore it better? >> i win. i like this. it's not whacked. it's not terrible. it's not sad. >> you are never any of those things, ron. just for the record.

>> thank you. at least not because of what i wear. >> right, exactly. never for any reason. just to be clear. nasa car stonestreet stewart will be back on the track for his first race since this now infamous incident three weeks ago. you may remember this. he hit and killed a fellow driver after weeks in seclusion stewart came to the cameras frying showing a side of himself we rarely get to see and gio benitez is on the story. >> reporter: this morning an emotional tony stewart is trying to push past the crash that killed 20-year-old racer kevin ward jr. on a dirt track in upstate new york. >> this has been one of the toughest tragedies i've ever had to deal with both professionally and personally. >> this is his first public appearance following the accident. that video still hard to watch. ward getting out of his car after an initial accident apparently waving his hand at stewart when moments later his car strikes and kills ward. >> this is a satness and a pain

that i hope no one ever has to experience in their life. >> reporter: now three weeks later stewart is practicing for tomorrow's sprint cup race and the nascar champ says he will try to meet with his family. >> i want his father, and his mother pam and his sisters christie and kayla and kaitlyn to know that every day i'm thinking about him and praying for them. >> reporter: the driver phone for his hot temper on the track now subdued off it not taking questions from the press and returning to his car, number 14, for the first time in tomorrow's race at the atlanta motor speedway. stewart has not been criminally charged. investigators say so far there's no evidence that he should be. but this morning, sports analysts wonder should a grieving stewart race at all? >> the fact that the police have not yet completed their investigation and yet he's coming back to the track, it just seems wrong. >> reporter: for "good morning america," gio benitez, abc news,

>> reporter: unlike samson prime air google drone drops a rope attached and has fewer spinning blades and looking more like a miniature jet all part of a trend that seems like something out of the jetsons. from a sushi restaurant in london to a wisconsin brewery. but its future is still up in the air with concerned ranking from privacy to aviation safety. >> it could hit an engine, take out an engine. >> reporter: the faa telling abc news overnight they're aware of google's proposal and have had discussions with the company but currently all commercial use of unmanned aircraft is against the agency's regulatioregulation. >> drive it to the enabling the dream of delivering stuff more quickly. >> when amazon announced its drone testing nine months ago many shrugged it off at the time, considered it a pr stunt

the oft maligned bowl championship is no more. for the first time ever, the national champion of college football will be the winner of a playoff tournament. but don't get too excited about the bracket to go. the newly minted college football playoffs will feature just four teams in two rounds to determine who plays in that championship game. >> you're going to have to win that game plus two games now to win a national championship so this will be much more challenging, i think, than it's ever before. >> reporter: a committee of 13 including archie manning, legendary coach barry alvarez and even former secretary of state condoleezza rice will meet weekly to score teams on an array of criteria including strength of schedule, head-to-head competition, common opponents and even injured players. but with so much controversy surround the bcs which drew years of scorn from sportscasters --

be reaching for things. >> reporter: joanne was born on march 12th after a rare emergency c-section. since birth, joanne learned to roll over and prop herself up. just like human babies while teething she began to mouth items within her reach but she's sampling solid foods. her favorite kale and grapes cut in half. and just like any other new kid in the neighborhood, joanne is learning the fine art of playing with the other young gorillas at the zoo. >> frank, he's pretty curious about holding joanne. he wants to carry her around the exhibit. >> reporter: while she's under amani's watchful eye she's trying on new behaviors. not ready to take on all those adventures she hangs on to mom while swinging on a rope playing with logs and hanging out by mom's side while eating a meal but just like all little ones they don't stay little for long. joanne takes off with some of

♪ welcome back to "good morning america" here at espn's "college gameday" in ft. worth, texas. a lot of excited fans for the big matchup between the florida state central knolls and oklahoma state but we're talking about the unveiling of the college football playoffs, so much energy, four teams will be playing at the end of the season to hoist that trophy and also talking with our espn analysts about making their season predictions and, dan, real quickly, did an unscientific poll. who here did not go to sleep last night?

evidence and leg toys found at the crime scene. investigators say the fingerprints on these play things helped them bring charges in a decades long murder. the lego bricks amonging to 78-year-old lucille johnson's grandson were found laying on the floor of her home where johnson was hit in the head and strangled to death in 1991. >> she had many years ahead of her that we were robbed of. >> reporter: detectives learned from family members johnson wouldn't just leave her grandkid's toys on the floor but the case went cold for decades. >> i wasn't sure that it ever would be solved. >> reporter: until last summer when dna found from scrapings underer fingernails match that of john john sansing on death row for unrelated murder. >> occasionally we run into veries who evil. the individual that is being charged with this crime today can only be described as that.

posed by the islamic extremist group isis. british officials have raised the threat level to severe which means that they believe there's the risk of an attack highly unlikely. president obama is trying to reassure americans saying that while the images on tv may look scary with regard to isis in his words the world has always been a messy place. prayers pouring in for comedian joan rivers who is in a medically induced coma in a new york city hospital in serious condition after undergoing -- having having a cardiac arrest episode during an outpatient procedure. a huge eruption in papua new guinea and communities have been evacuated and flights over that nation have been diverted. iceland, the latest eruption has not produced significant ash so european air travel has not been affected there. finally you're looking at a buttermilk pie made by linda
