psychiatric facility charged with murder. police say she suffocated her children ages 1 and 3. we know what she did in the days leading up to the deaths. brad bell has more. >> sonia spoon called her daughter cala thompson and aden spoon the loves of her life. she posted this happy selfie. last week something apparently snapped in spoon's case so profound that her mother called the police. >> she advised her daughter had suicidal thoughts and also that she wanted to take the life of her daughter. >> spoon was hospitalized for a psychiatric hospitalization. it was after 2:00 a.m. sunday morning that police were again called to spoon's parents home. the children near death. >> without getting into too many particulars, there were bags placed over the children's

heads. >> they died hours later. >> police say sonia spoon confessed but the motive remains unknown. we've learned from courses that she was involved in a custody battle for her daughter the cala. she told a friend she was going to kill the children. the father of her son lives nearby. he told us off camera he hasn't seen the baby or spoon for seven months. he says he's crushed by what happened. his father is speaking on his behalf. >> he doesn't know what to do. just have to move on. >> brad bell, abc7 news. >> investigators are looking into a bus fire on the inner loop of the beltway. flames pouring out the back of a charter bus. the incident caused major back-ups. witnesses say approximately 30 passengers were escorted off the bus. >> heard a loud boom and the bus

tuesday at the navy yard. it's to mark one year since the deadly shooting. gunman killed a dozen people before being killed in a shootout with police. the names of the victims will be read and a bell will toll for each of them. another ceremony will take place in southeast washington. that is free and open to the public. on friday and saturday, the baltimore ravens will offer an exchange for ray rice jerseys. that will be at m. & t. stadium in baltimore. fans are told they can exchange it for any available jersey of another ravens player. he was shown on video punching his fiance. he's been suspended indefinitely. we're getting a sneak peek at the changes coming to a popular museum in the district. plus eileen has the forecast. will the cool weather stick

at about 7:30. 56 degrees, the current temperature. 70 degrees, the high after a morning low of 53. in he'sburg, 61 degrees after a high of only 67. our average -- our average this time of year, 80 degrees. reagan national made it to 74. tomorrow will be closer to the 80-degree mark. behind a cold front we're going to fall into the low 70's for the latter half of the workweek. temperatures falling into the 40's and 50's in the overnight hours. 53 in dulles. 58 in indianapolis as well as in quantity quo -- ams. actually frost and freeze advisories in effect for northern pennsylvania, parts of new york and even into the rest of new england. nothing like that for us here yet, but i think give it a few weeks and we'll probably have

our own frost and freeze warnings in effect. high pressure, our dominant weather feature, so that's responsible for delivering us this really quiet weather pattern. one hick up in the weather forecast is this weather front moving through monday night. it's going to bring us a few showers but most of you probably won't even notice the showers because they're going to occur when you're sleeping. so tomorrow morning, no need for the umbrella. we'll see plenty of sunshine after a school start. a light southerly wind ahead of the cold front. by 5:00, the showers still off to our northwest and probably after about midnight that the showers will greet us but it should be out of here by the morning commute by tuesday. behind the front, sunny, breezy and comfortable with temperatures in the low 70's. tonight, 46 in the suburbs to about 57 downtown. kind of a cool start tomorrow. kids may want to bring the jacket or a light sweater. by recess time, warmer weather. pretty mild. make sure you bring the jacket
