in cold. in new york it continues. let's get to the weather. the snow and ice and cold gripping the country from maine to the south. single digit temperatures when we came to work. ginger is it any better? >> the actual temperature is 4. so no. the answer is the windchill is 7 below. i look like a double stuffed oreo. this is danger weather. windchill advisories and warnings. you can see why. we don't know why it was left on. but in bryant park the fountain is not looking good. it looks like ice. let's look at the numbers under the high and high often means cooler. chicago is warmer. philadelphia windchill is 16 below. our eyes are on the new storm dropping a wintry mix, winter storm warnings from oklahoma to virginia and parts of delaware. tennessee and kentucky having ice to snow.

massachusetts and downing power lines and 21 inches of new snow pummelling maine. >> there's nowhere to put it. this only throws so high. we're running out of places. >> reporter: snow drifts up to six feet collapsing this new hampshire roof. on the roads, treacherous conditions. on sunday more than 20 vehicles piling up in a chain-reaction crash in massachusetts trapping drivers for over an hour. rescuers caught on tape race this baby to a waiting ambulance overnight workers armed with hand held torches, shovels and brooms trying to clear the train tracks. the city is hoping to have part of its mass transportation system up and running. boston with nearly 8 feet of snow this season. experiencing its third snowiest winter on record. they plan over 275,000 miles, enough to go around the world 11 times. the city's major urging to stay

it's the fear of paralyzing ice storm causing the state of georgia to declare a state of emergency and the northern counties afraid of the repeat of last year's devastating storm. this is sand and salt, but this is brine. they're throwing potato juice also at this storm. it's a residue creating from the distillation of vodka. go figure. >> stay warm. thousands of flyers stuck because of the storm. flights cancel and not just in the northeast. across the u.s. abc has the latest from one of the country's busiest airports. good morning to you steve. >> reporter: good morning, lara. after more than 2,700 flights cancelled here in the u.s. over the weekend, more than 386 cancelled this morning including 37 here in atlanta at jackson. at boston logan, there were very few flights getting in and out yesterday. that continues today. the airports are breaking out.

55 pounds the faa wants the on operateor to pass a written test and fly no higher than 500 feet and only during the day and only if the operator can see the drone. there's a huge demand for the use of drones from farm field to oil lines an try ready to launch. they could pump more than $13 billion into the economy in the first three years after the rules are approved. realtors can take aerials of homes for sale. utilities can check lines. farmers could get a bird's eye view of their crops. >> is there a danger of something like me and going out and buying them? >> for somebody that doesn't have any experience yes. >> that line of sight rule is a problem for amazon. it wants drones to go off on their own and deliver packages. the online retailers is unhappy with the proposed rules and wants the government to address the needs of our business. another business hollywood,

the family of chris kyle's killer finally breaking their silence. abc has the story. >> reporter: accused murderer eddy routh never says a word. he rarely looks up but this morning his aunt is speaking for him in her first television interview. >> i still love my nephew no matter what he did. >> reporter: she helped raise routh and she nows talk to her nephew from jail every week. his defense team says he has ppsd and was temporarily insane. routh admits he shot them multiple times in the back. the mystery is motive. in court friday this deputy testified he overheard routh say this in jail in 2013. i shot them because they wouldn't talk to me. i was riding in the backseat of the truck and nobody would talk to me. i'm sure they have for given me.

think i was watching birdman. i had the urge to get back in the theater. any excuse to be in new york. it's such an iconic part. >> you have been on broadway before but never had a leading role where you're singing the entire performance. >> no. >> are you a singer? no. >> you know i hope i can sing. i can sing in tune i hope. >> she's not supposed to be -- >> exactly. it's really a role for an actor who can sing a bit and she should not be brilliant and trained. any mistakes are possible and fine. >> did you hear that all reviewers. >> everybody. >> a lot of people think of liza ma nellie when sally is supposed to be a typical woman. >> in the book she's supposed to be bad. what we're doing is she can sing a bit but she's not going to go on and become anything with it. >> you were amazing in fox

catcher. i was talking to you in the break. stunning in american sniper. almost unrecognizable until you get halfway through the movie and you realize that's sienna. have you been taken by how the movie has been received? >> it's overwhelming and touched people on a level i could never have imagined and it's wonderful. i'm thrilled to be a part of it. >> you talk about one of the scenes where you tell him he's overseas and he's having a boy. one of the most difficult scenes of the movie because you go from -- >> it was sort of a ten-second gasp of entering a moment. it's great news we're having a son and having to dissolve into hysteria because there's an ambush i hear over the phone. it was a difficult thing to do. it was very hard. >> heavy movie but you brought such a human component to it.

i love how honest you have been. you said you had one nightmare with the chef's hat. >> in one of the scenes i'm in this kind of sexy black cap that i had. my boyfriend came back and said it was underwell hmm wellwell hmming was the word he used. and everybody said i love the dresses. she made me do the dance in one of those huge white chef hats and i woke up like ah! anyway yes, it's all happening. >> just a few seconds left. alan cummings amazing too. >> we haven't rehearsed together. >> you haven't? >> tomorrow night will be the first time i am on the stage with allen cumming and i can't wait. it's daunt. >> nothing like building up the nerves with us. we wish you the best of luck. thanks for coming the day before
