of killing a mother of four after an alleged road rage incident. this strange and sad story has been evolving days now with a series of twists and turns. and abc's candace gibson has been there for all of it. >> reporter: a tense scene outside this suburban las vegas home. tactical teams poised to rush in. helicopters circling overhead. inside, a suspect in the death of tammy meyers the las vegas mother shot down in her driveway last week. >> we are currently in the tactical phase of taking a suspect who we believe to be involved in the homicide of miss meyers into custody at this point. >> reporter: all week, mystery was swirling around over who could have killed the mother of four. and now it ended only one block away from the crime scene. the shirtless suspect apprehended by police. the victim's husband robert rushing to the scene. >> [ bleep ]! there's the animal, a block

away! are you happy? >> reporter: the suspect is 19-year-old eric noesh. >> he was taken into custody by metro homicide investigators and the investigation is ongoing. he had firearms registered to him. >> reporter: now facing charges in the murder. late today another shocking twist. the meyers family knew the suspect all along. >> we knew how bad he was. we didn't know he was this bad, that he'd gotten to this point. she was really good to him. she fed him, she gave him money. she told him to pull his pants up and to be a man. >> reporter: it all began little more than a week ago. meyers was driving to her las vegas home after giving her teenaged daughter a driving lesson at a nearby middle school parking lot. >> she was a good woman and she didn't deserve this. >> reporter: police say she had a close call with a silver sedan that family members say had multiple passengers. there was a verbal confrontation between meyers and the driver. it all suggested from the beginning that they knew each other.

and this was some sort of anger, revenge, prior history that played into ultimately what happened. >> reporter: according to the family meyers then drove home but the sedan followed. >> you see just a car coming down. >> speeding? >> yes. he did shot shot. >> reporter: initially police said she was shot in the head right then in her driveway. >> as far as we can tell there was no prior contact with these individuals. >> a nurse, a nurse and a mother of four. and she had to lose her life for what? >> reporter: meyers was pulled off life support two days later, valentine's day. her husband for 25 years giving her roses, putting one final rose on her hospital bed. >> all my life she'll never leave my heart. but she's gone. >> reporter: police on the lookout for a suspect they believed gunned down meyers. >> the suspect arrived at the residence and began shooting at them. >> reporter: releasing clues, including this sketch of one of the suspects. and this surveillance video of

what they believe is the suspect's car. this was the only video clip police say captured the tragic incident. >> police say the suspects weren't done driving around several neighborhoods looking for that mother, daughter and car, finding them, opening fire on meyers. >> reporter: toward days ago a vastly different account of that alleged road rage incident emerged. seeming to challenge the idea this all happened because of road rage. las vegas police saying the 44-year-old was likely not followed home immediately after the incident as previously thought. but went home allegedly got one of her sons who grabbed his handgun. >> her 22-year-old son came out of the house got into the car, he was armed with a firearm. they left the house in search of that person that mrs. meyers was involved in an incident with. >> you have to be extremely careful about what you say publicly about a case until all the facts are out. because what happens is you g

caught with the facts that don't fit. and now you basically express to the public one scenario when it's not accurate. tell the public who you're looking for. here's the description, car description, suspect description. and leave it alone at that point. >> reporter: according to police, the mother and son spot the suspect's vehicle nearby but then rush back home. it was then that the vehicle allegedly followed them into the cul-de-sac, exchanging gunfire with meyers' son brandon. >> i did what i had to do to protect my family. i'd do it for anyone. >> reporter: tammy meyers was apparently killed when her son and the suspect exchanged gunfire. a candlelight vigil on tuesday, the family defending their actions. >> she was protecting me that night. she did everything -- she was teaching me how to drive. >> my son is a hero in my book. >> reporter: today the family is struggling to pick up the pieces. nancy grace spoke to robert meyers minutes before the suspect was arrested. >> the father couldn't get

through more than two or three sentences without crying. and raising his voice. very agitated. talking about his son and his wife being treated like dogs like an mays. >> the real takeaway here is that the suspect involved in the killing of mrs. meyers is in custody and off the streets of las vegas. >> they knew -- mommy knew who this was one of these people. she just didn't want it to come back here. she tried to get them to go somewhere else. because she was afraid. >> reporter: even though in custody he is not the only person police are looking for. >> we still have at least one more suspect to locate. >> is this because you have enough probable cause to arrest somebody, that's only -- you've only gotten partway down the road. what the police have to do is go back and really verify what exactly did happen that night? >> reporter: answers to those questions will not make the pain the meyers family feels go away.

it is the last day of fashion week here in new york city. and one of the most fascinating storylines from the runways this year involves a new crop of models with the kinds of faces and bodies that almost certainly would not have made the cut in years past. as abc's deborah roberts found out, both their looks and their personal stories are extraordinary. >> reporter: it's one of the hottest tickets of the year. new york's fashion week. a-list celebs. iconic designers.

major turn from the era of classic beauties like christie cindy, naomi. >> models like that would not have been on the runway. because the definition of beauty was much narrower. there are models who are at the top of the industry who have a quirky look. carr dialin heavy eyebrows. i think there's room being made for women and for men who designers feel have an "it" factor that makes them compelling on the runway. >> reporter: is the fashion world having a moment of honesty? the ftlmoda featured wheelchairs. a male amputee to walk the runway. at the kerry hammer show actress jamie brewer made history as the first person with down syndrome to hit the catwalk. >> it changes the world.

>> i think for designers who are always trying to push the edges of their creativity i think they're always searching for something that is different and something that will surprise us. we should celebrate the moment. but not necessarily assume that the moment is going to lead to a new era. >> i'm excited. it's going to be a very interesting show. >> reporter: across town we find 23-year-old sean ross a rising star in the fashion world who's modeled for the biggest names. he happens to be albino. >> i know there are people who are going to make fun of me. there are going to be people who are not going to see this vision the way i do. but i do know that i have everything that it takes to make people think differently. >> reporter: it's that confidence that propelled him to career highs like collaborating with beyonce. >> i remember the first thing she said to me. "you are so beautiful." when she said that i was just like, whoa! like beyonce? beyonce said that? no one can tell me anything i don't care what the tell you say, beyonce told me i'm beautiful.

>> reporter: sean played a memorable role in her video, playing a brutal beauty director. ♪ >> she was filming "pretty hurt." it was a secret project. and she knew that i knew a lot of girls and she wanted me to cast. i made to joke to her, i'm only casting if i can be in it. she said, whatever, i don't care. >> reporter: today he invited us to watch him cast for the upcoming show. the designer entrusted sean with selecting the models. >> back. a little faster. take longer steps. >> are you looking at folks differently than a lot of other casting directors might? >> definitely. i'm looking at people for a lot of different reasons. i mean, i try to look as deep inside of them as i possibly can. i try to look at where do you come from what is your background like? >> these hopefuls are all walk-ins, street casting. >> it says something about the designer. but the more connected to the street, to the energy of the

times, that they're off from the rest of the world. >> reporter: sean wants his art to extend beyond the runway. >> here is my art exhibition on a collaboration called"visible man." my favorite part in this piece is my eyeball. you can see so far into it. >> earlier this fall artist jerome legarier debuted a calorie featuring life-sized portraits of sean. >> a lot of these pieces looking at them, it's kind of crazy. >> reporter: it's a full circle moment for him. >> i felt like everything in my life, whether it was good or bad, especially more so now than ever, is definitely the perfect design. everything is happening for a reason. >> reporter: under lincoln center's iconic big tent it's minutes before showtime. >> i felt this was going to go so wrong. >> reporter: his moment has arrived. later, his success sinks in. >> cool just to be there.

but today, a happy ending. reunions between missing pets and anxious owners can be powerful. that's why "homeward bound" is so iconic. >> oh, so happy! >> reporter: and it's why this slobbery, emotional scene which played out in chicago today -- >> oh so cute! >> reporter: went instantly viral. >> the driver was armed with a blue steel handgun and went southwest on milwaukee. >> reporter: it started when the pups were dognapped on wednesday. the van, meant to take them home from a doggy day care center stolen at gun point. >> i was shocked. to hear it. i was so surprised that someone would take a van full of little dogs. >> i just want my dog back. >> reporter: their owners worried sick. >> a big concern is that it's going to be so cold. >> i'm really worried she may not survive the night. >> reporter: today all seven dogs were found in the parked van, shivering but otherwise
