kimberly cannot get enough of that video, an icy layer covers the region after a storm brings snow, sleet, and freezing rain. eileen whelan will have the forecast in a few minutes. our area is not the only part of the country having severe weather. it is having a ripple effect on travel nationwide. reporter: these travelers wondering if they will ever get home, 5000 stuck at the dallas-fort worth airport.

>> it is mind-boggling. reporter: the first day of march held no hint of spurring a snow plow to keep the roadways clear travelers having a hard time staying ahead of the weather. >> trying to measure sure the headlights are not frozen over. reporter: in north carolina black ice made this stretch of road look like a demolition derby. the drivers shaken, but not injured. >> i went out, and i'm there. reporter: the morning commute turned terrifying. >> your life flashes before your eyes. reporter: in kentucky, a portion of i-64 was shut down. in indiana, seven inches of snow made for no rest for homeowners. the bitter weather has homeless shelter struggling to find food,

clothing, and sleeping space. >> we take as many people as we can safely fit in the building. reporter: the forecast is to warm up monday, but another storm is bringing snow to the great lakes. kimberly: in our area,. we are continuing to get delays monday morning. as william county schools will be closed. loudoun county and spotsylvania county schools will open two hours late. in maryland, calvert, frederick, prince george's, and st. mary's counties will open two hours late. "good morning washington" starts at 4 a.m. with all the closings and delays. it was once considered a right of passage for some college kids, but violent cases of hazing in the last few years have brought the practice into question. maryland bureau chief brad bell is looking to the penalties lawmakers could sign into action. brad: kevin hayes is a young man

on a mission. he was freshman class president at bowie state university. the is a private in the national guard. he hopes to be a lawyer and politician. he thought joining a fraternity would add to his experience and network. that is when the beatings began. >> multiple times per week, hours on end, we were beaten and kicked. brad: he said it was not just older students initiating the pledges. >> grown men with their families. they would beat us and leave. brad: today he is saying enough is enough and he is standing with others speaking out. this student said he was beaten. this person wanted to be a little sister at penn state. >> we were beat, punched in the face, slapped. brad: violent hazing in maryland

harrington. and they will hand out flyers in the search for religious road at several locations. -- in the search for release your rod -- relisha rudd at several locations. she was last seen alive a year ago. the body of kahlil tatum, the man she was last seen with, was found about two weeks after she went missing. the timing of the last winter storm left some parts of d.c. without trash service for two weeks. trash truck stayed on the streets through the weekend. >> the situation was unbearable, so the mayor said we have to do something about it. that's why we are doing it. kimberly: because of public health concerns, trash and recycling are being processed together. they hope to have everything back to normal by tomorrow morning.

there still may be pockets of freezing drizzle here or there so please walk with caution, drive with caution. everything is super slick. the national weather service originally had us under a winter storm warning until 3 a.m., but the watches warnings, and advisories have been drop. even though we do not have those in effect, it does not mean things are not still slick. use caution heading out the door tonight, even tomorrow morning. maybe allow extra time, too because as i'm sure you have seen, everything is covered in ice. get out and scrape off the windshield and allow yourself extra time. the temperatures are pretty much where they will be right now where they will be all night long. 32 frederick, 32 andrews 32 downtown. the othe will want to note overnight is dense fog. this ability has dropped to a

half-mile in gaithersburg. still a half-mile visibility at dulles and andrews. we are starting to see milder air move in to the mid level of the atmosphere. we are really starting to see that overrunning the cold surface, which is promoting the dense fog. as we zoom out satellite radar the bulk of the moisture is out of here. i have been watching some of this precipitation through the western sections of maryland, but a lot of it seems to be dissipating. for the most part we are out of the woods in terms of additional ice accumulation. the temperature off to the southwest, milder. that milder air mass pushes in tomorrow. overnight tonight, very slick, patchy fog. we wake up in the morning with temperatures near freezing. 10:00, upper 30's, lower 40's 1 p.m., decreasing clotting is. it will be breezy, which will dry things out. the only thing i am worried
