magnitude earthquake hitting the himalayan country. the capital city of kathmandu crumbling, scenes of devastation, houses disappearing into piles of rubble, really just temples and historical monuments in pieces, everywhere people running for their lives. shaken residents then jolted by aftershocks, the terror returning again and again. >> every time it let up, it can't coming. reporter: forcing hundreds of thousands to sleep outside as a desperate race unfolds to pull survivors from the rubble, troops arriving with taxes and shovels. the help coming too late for many of the city, and also in the mounds where there were massive avalanches. and bearing mountaineers beneath them, one of them a google executive.

google said in a statement, "we lost one of our own in this tragedy." the heartbreak growing as more bodies have been pulled from the rubble. kellye: a little more than a year and a half after the shooting death of 12 people, the navy yard took another big step in its recovery. diane cho has the rededication of the building. diane: here at the washington navy yard, all of the employees once displaced by the tragic shootings in 2013 have now returned to the place formally known as building 197. >> 19 months ago, we lost 12 shipmates, members of our navy family. diane: today marked the official dedication ceremony for the headquarters now call the humphries building, named after joshua humphries.

>> we have gotten stronger. now we are back where we belong. diane: about 400 employees returned to this building two months ago on a weekly basis. that process was completed at the end of march. this woman said the memory of the tragic events still haunt her. >> sometimes it's hard. i thought i would be over it, but you cannot help but remember it. diane: the building also has a memorial to those who died in the shootings. >> we will think about the future and still remember our friends who were lost. kellye: scaffolding will soon go up around the virginia state capital of richmond. a project will take about five months. there will be asked your repairs, painting the 225- -year-old building, and surrounded complex. problems plagued these -- the

problem-plagued silver spring metro station could open in several months. they hope to turn over the facility to metro in june. the last of the work will take six to eight weeks to complete. and a new push to begin construction on the purple line in maryland. the project would run from bethesda to new carrollton. governor larry hogan is expected to make his decision on the future of the project in about a month. chris papst explains that business leaders say billions are at stake. >> probably the worst business dilemma is small business could be put into. chris: deborah's small business has thrived in this silver spring shopping complex for 22 years, but the past fee years she has been in limbo. she wants to expand, but cannot. the proposed 16-mile-long purple line would run through her

the last of the fading rain moving through. for the 10-miler, a little bit of cold and a headwind. these are the high temps today 53, 17 under the average high. warmer weather to the west. that sparked some severe thunderstorms. clusters of storms that could give us the second wave of rain will be in and out by 7 a.m. the track is just south of the warm front. the big picture, the rain coming in tomorrow breaking clouds, any sunshine this time of year will bring the temps up. northwest wind gusty, 15 25.

at the young women in engineering club at the start of the year. wearing goggles and armed with power drills, they constructed a gardening system, getting a hands-on lesson in engineering. >> in class there are lessons so we are trying to provide a projects, resources, opportunities, and connections. alison: connections, like this engineer who provide support. >> it's a different atmosphere when you are comfortable with the people you are within everybody has an opportunity to have a leadership role. alison: the young women are not intimidated to ask questions or try something new. >> i did not know how to do anything hands on, and how i'm doing this. >> i've made lots of things and it's really cool. alison: that is the goal of this girls-only club. >> the more competitive we will

the u.s. prince george's county honored its most outstanding public servants this week. mike conneen introduces us to the men and women involved. mike: august 16 2014, is a day that clarence black and paul berg will never forget. >> we think back about how dangerous the situation was. >> we just try to keep the community say. mike: they were among the handful of officers responding to shots fired, pursuing a gun man. through it all, the suspect had his three-year-old daughter in the car. >> unfortunate, she was killed by the father, but they did not know that. they were only worried about trying to save her. mike: this was the 30th annual prince george's county valor awards. >>'s support for us to thank

them every day because there are acts of bravery that nobody hears about. mike: they recognized heroic actions across five county agencies -- police, sure, fire and ems, homeland security, and corrections. other recipients included a nurse to help a female inmate deliver a healthy baby girl before emt's arrived, and firefighters help those on the jokers jinx roller coaster at six flags last year that was stalled. >> they are my heroes and i just like to get the chance to shake their hands. mike: at a time when police departments are facing mounting criticism and complains, these officer say it is nice to be recognized for their dedication. >> unfortunate it is a small handful of officers nationwide who give us all a black eye.
