lab and southwest, all dna testing has come to a halt. >> at least we know the pathway we need to get to to have a lab we can believe in. brianne: a national accreditation board found major problems at the facility. among the issues highlighted procedures for the interpretation for dna data were insufficient or inadequate. employees evaluating dna without proper training. and different guidelines being used for dna evidence that need to involve more than one person. the mayor ordered a 30 day action plan to fix the problems. mayor: we are looking for a lab that can handle the amount of business we will give them so all of our confidence can be confident in it. brianne: the u.s. attorney's office raised the concerns last year. they ordered their own audit and similar deficiencies were discovered.

"the u.s. attorney's office is hopeful the department of forensic sciences will act upon the experts recommendations and work collaboratively to ensure the the integrity of future dna analysis." this person says she is hopeful the city will work to fix all of the issues at the lab. >> going forward, there is already backlogs on a lot of dna samples so how is the city going to ensure that does not create a bigger backlog than the one that exists. brianne: the mayor said this is the criminal justice system, so they are not focusing on speed but accuracy in making sure they have them correct. she also says the review will not stop the prosecution of any crimes happening in the district. we know this facility has a minimum of 30 days to begin fixing these issues. brianne carter, abc 7 news.

kellye: a mystery in loudoun

county, a woman gone missing for years ago without a trace. there is a bone chilling letter that was found five years after she wrote it. the case continues to baffle detectives. abc 7 is on your side, and jennifer donelan takes us through this. jennifer: she penned a letter when she was 19 years old. all of her plans were in black and white -- get married, have a child, start a career, go to europe. >> she had lots of dreams of what her future would look like. it's nothing like this. jennifer: decker has been gone without a trace since 2011. her former husband will not voluntarily talk to detectives anymore. her boyfriend is and still is a person of interest. in the case is further complicated by a three-week delay between the last time she

was seen in the first call to 911. >> a lot of evidence and leaves evaporator. jennifer: at the time, decker was 21 and married. she and her husband had a young son. she was taking classes at george mason university and working at a restaurant. a coworker began an affair with decker while her husband was serving in afghanistan. he moved into her apartment in ashburn. the family says it went badly. >> he was physically abusive. jennifer: the timer for disappearance, she was three months pregnant. the family said the husband knew about the affair but still travel to why he with her to patch things up. however, she did not show up days later when he redeployed to afghanistan. >> she dropped off the face of the earth. jennifer: just months ago, her
