good evening. thank you for joining us. we begin tonight with an exclusive interview with bill cosby. the subject of so many scathing

headlines as a wave of women made allegations of assault. he is responding to questions for the first time. tonight cosby tells abc's linsey davis about his efforts to move forward or at the very least, change the subject. >> bill cosby made me a victim. >> reporter: a barrage of allegations. >> mr. cosby drugged me. >> he flipped me over and sexually assaulted me. >> his behavior was like that of a predator. >> reporter: more than 30 women coming forward in recent months claiming they were drugged or sexually assaulted by bill cosby. in most cases decades ago. cosby now speaking out. he says driven only by one of his long-time passions education and the need for kids to take responsibility. are you prepared for the backlash if a young person comes up to you and said my mom said you have done some bad things? how will you answer them if they are pressing you, are you

guilty? did you do it? are the allegations true? >> i'm not sure that they will come like that. i think that many of them say, well you are a hypocrite. you say one thing and say the other. >> reporter: he quickly turns the conversation back to his talking points on education. >> my point is okay listen to me carefully. i'm telling you where the road is at. i'm telling you where, as you are driving you are going to go in to water. now you want to go here or you want to be concerned about who's giving you the message? >> reporter: are you concerned at all given the allegations that that may overshadow your message? >> it's interesting. this is a situation that's unprecedented. my family my friends, i have

been in this business 52 years and i will -- i've never seen anything like this. reality is the situation. i can't speak. >> reporter: the man formerly known as america's favorite dad still cautious when speaking about his past and the media furor he can't shake and can't seem to understand. >> do you think the media has been unfair to you? >> i can't speak. i don't want to argue. we don't -- i don't talk about it. >> reporter: in his last on-camera interview, cosby wouldn't engage questions on the allegations. >> i would appreciate it if it was scuttle. >> reporter: despite the silence that followed cosby seems optimistic about the future both his own -- >> i want to get back to media,

television books, the entertainment. >> reporter: for the people he hopes to reach here in al. >> the biggest, warmest hearts trust me are these teachers. >> reporter: coming to speak about education, do you think the kids will hear you? >> it's not a matter of who's rejecting me as much as it is somebody may get it. i'm going to keep plowing through it because in this world of education there's a harvest. >> reporter: it's a controversial but seemingly calculated decision from the black belt community foundation to invite cosby to this event to raise awareness about the arts and education in the poorest counties in alabama. one of the nonprofits focuses

serving under-funded schools near selma. their hope that any attention to the plight of this 12-oun coy area is welcomed attention to highlight some of the schools still heated with coal and in some cases with raw sewage running through their ditches. >> at the end of the day what is most important is how do we make sure that the world knows that black belt children matter. >> reporter: cosby posts messages of opposition on-line i'm appalled and sad for those kids and this is insane and frighteneninging. one of cosby's accusers weighing in on facebook lily barn ard, please urge the city of selma to cancel cosby's visit. >> i think charities are desperate for attention and their desperation overruled common sense here. the tone in the schools today quite different. his reception overwhelmingly positive. from this morning's standing ovation to many students telling us they view his presence as an

inspiration. >> this is great. this is a great man here. >> for someone to just put that on him. you know? it doesn't seem like he's the type of guy to do anything like that. >> i still love bill cosby. >> reporter: you don't think she guilty? >> no. >> i'm going to give information to young people and if they take it they will be able to soar. >> it happened so long ago, why bring it up now. >> even though it is more than 30 women. >> i don't think that. >> reporter: cosby walking across the edmund pettus bridge with students as part of a march for education. [ channelling ] >> reporter: there were protests or outbursts a big departure from the hecklers that cosby attracted since november when allegations surfaced. since then more women have come forward accusing cosby of drugging or sexually salting

them actress beverly johnson shares what she says happened to her. >> he placed his hands moin waist. >> reporter: describing an incident at cosby's house when she says he drugged her. >> i took a couple of sips of the cappuccino and from the first sip and then the second sip, i knew i had been drugged. >> reporter: the details of her story, similar to alleged incidents described by other women who say cosby drugged them too. >> he had no right to do that. >> there was a time that i was at dinner a his brownstone and i had one glass of wine. the next thing i knew i was slumped over the toilet throwing up. i was sick. i was confused. i was foggy. i had really no idea what was happening. >> reporter: cosby's legal team has issued a number of denials and cosby has never been criminally charged. three of his accusers have filed

new dad. >> reporter: people who don't know them look at it and say, you know these guys are just immature dudes. do you see it that way? >> i could see how people -- they play for a living. i call cody and he is playing golf. it is their business. i can see that but after you sit down and watch them do a shoot. i told cody i have so much more respect for you. i had no idea that much went in to making a trick shot. >> reporter: how do you bring a little dude in to this? >> just hope he -- hope owen can grow up and enjoy it and it is just about having fun. their shenanigans spring from their deeply held christian values the anti-jack ass. i know you turned away alcohol sponsorship and that is lucrative. >> there are things we have to decide. do we want to push that toward our audience. we know a lot of them are

younger. >> we celebrate most when we get tweets from people that say i am waiting for my mom and dad on the couch to get home and watch the video together as fa family. >> they made them a marketing phenomenon bringing in big money from you tube and merchandise endorsements. >> this is our nerf edition. >> reporter: even their newly launched video game. at least one estimate puts their net worth in the millions. >> everybody assumes you guys are billionaires now. give me a sense, how much money are you rolling in? >> it's not billions. >> you are printing it right there. >> yeah we have a machine back there that actually rolls it out. no. it's enough to support families and do pretty well for ourselves. we work really hard. >> reporter: they play different roles. kobe coby is a social media. corey the marketing. it is a well-oiled machine. >> dude perfect, man.
