incredibly loud but do what they have to do to help their team. take a look at this. this is what comes on the big screens when the cavs go to the foul line. they want perfect quiet. >> silence is deafening. >> and helps that lebron is doing this with his big arms. all the highlights but right to the hunt for those escaped killers. hundreds of police swarming a town about 40 miles from the prison after someone thought they spotted the men. we're also hearing from the son of that prison worker who was questioned by police. abc's gio benitez is in that town in upstate new york. good morning, gio. >> reporter: robin, good morning to you. one of the biggest searches for these men was right here even the fbi joined in scanning these railroad tracks and field, in fact this was the first big lead since that prison break. this morning, the son of joyce mitchell the prison worker who supervised the two escapees at the clinton correctional facility tailor shop is now being investigated by authorities is coming to his mother's defense speaking to nbc

news. >> she is not the kind of person that's going to risk her life or other people's lives to let these guys escape from prison. >> reporter: he said his mother went to the hospital for a panic attack complaining of severe chest pains. one of the escapees' sons speaking out claiming he does not fear his father. >> i don't think he's coming here or targeting me at all. with all these news cars here would you come here? >> stay with your partner. two-man teams. >> reporter: this comes as the manhunt intensifies. the two convicted killers on the loose. 400 officers descended on the small town of willsboro. 35 miles south of the prison where a 22-year-old woman reportedly told authorities she saw the men jumping down an embankment wearing what appeared to be backpacks. what they're doing is called a grid search. they are just searching every square inch of this whole place. several rail lines run through the area. no arrests this morning but still lots qualify he is over

how the escapees got their hands on power tools to break out and how long they were plotting the escape. and back here live in willsboro, we can tell you this area is filled with seasonal vacation homes so the concern right now is that these guys will try to break into one of those empty properties. police now going door-to-door george. >> what a hunt. gio, thanks. breaking news overnight. suicide bombers attack one of egypt's most popular tourist attractions. the ancient carne -- carkahnak temple it luxor. >> reporter: they go every year there, tourists and multiple attacks descended on the site right outside that ancient temple. local authorities say right after the men arrived one of them blew himself up and then two others were killed by police. several police were wounded and while no one has claimed

response groups sympathizing with isis are a strong possibility. last year cyanide-based militants pledged allegiance to isis. >> this comes at a time when president obama recalibrated his strategy sending more to iraq. >> reporter: the u.s. will likely add hundreds more americans on the ground in iraq to help train iraqi forces. we already have over 3,000 americans there, and, yet, despite that and the thousands of air strikes we've carried out, the iraqi forces lost the key city of ramadi and after a year have been unable to take back mosul. george. >> george that severe weather turning deadly overnight. more than 100 storms reported all across the eastern half of the country and, you know ginger has the latest. >> most were damaging wind reports. over 60-mile-per-hour winds. this was a tornado north of albany. see the damage there. flash flooding from new hampshire down to georgia and these storms are not done with

us yet. severe storms rocking the atmosphere from texas to vermont. in alabama, storms trapping five children and a baby-sitter inside this home. >> we're very fortunate that it didn't hurt somebody a lot worse than what it did. >> reporter: in upstate new york an ef-0 tornado, winds over 80 miles per hour taking out trees and power lines and destroying this shed. flooding rains near albany new york. >> they're still going. >> are you still taping it? >> yes. >> they're like floating away. >> reporter: a waterspout in cross, south carolina spinning up and in daytona beach shores florida. >> got hit by lightning. >> are they doing cpr on him. >> yes yes we need somebody now please. >> reporter: an 11-year-old in serious condition after he was struck by lightning. >> they just dragged him out of the water. >> is he person breathing? >> no. they were fishing in waist deep water when the lightning hit. a surf instructor rushing to the boy's aid performing cpr.

>> right when he started breathing, boom it was like okay, hey, everything is going to be all right. >> reporter: the boy still hospitalized this morning. that cold front sags south today and there's a huge area of severe weather threat back from the plains all the way through the great lakes, all the way to syracuse new york so just south of chicago, detroit, you have a lot of places to look out for damaging wind hail and, of course, the summer isolated tornado. >> okay ginger thanks very much. the latest on former house speaker dennis hastert in court yesterday pleading not guilty to charges he broke banking laws and lied to the fbi to cover up sexual abuse while a high school wrestling coach. abc's brian ross confronted hastert at the courthouse. >> reporter: it was a humbling day of rickening for the former speaker of the house. no longer surrounded by government bodyguards but by a mob of photographers instead. mr. speaker -- at he went through courthouse security hastert's only response to questions from abc news was stoney silence.

mr. hastert, brian ross from abc. anything you want to say? the charges of bank fraud own lying to the fbi grow out of his alleged sexual abuse as a high school wrestling coach and what prosecutors say were his later efforts to pay hush money to a victim. >> i think people need to stop and remember that these boys were 14 15, 16 years old. >> reporter: the sister of another allegationed victim jolene burdge told abc news she had been waiting for this day for more than two decades ever since her late brother, steve reinboldt told her hastert had molested him when he served as the wrestling team's student manager. >> he damaged steve, i think, more than any of us will ever know. >> reporter: federal officials say hastert is not likely to be prosecuted for the alleged abuse itself since it happened so long ago but given the seriousness of the allegations if propersecutors have their way the next few years for this 73-year-old former speaker of the house will like i be ones of turmoil and

disgrace. hastert this morning is back home here in plano, illinois. if convicted, robin he could face up to ten years in prison. robin. >> all right, brian thank you. turning now to the fallout from that pool party that got out of control. the police officer caught on camera slamming a teenage girl to the ground and drawing his gun has now resigned. but police are still investigating. abc's steve osunsami is until mckinney, texas, with the latest. good morning steve. >> reporter: good morning, to you, robin. it must be said that police here were condemning many of this officer's actions from the very beginning. this morning there are some families who are cheering this latest development. but a much smaller, less vocal group quite upset by it. this morning, the police officer at the center of this racially explosive video has resigned. another case of caught on camera outside a private pool in mckinney, texas, now seen by millions worldwide. >> on your face.

>> reporter: here's where police say corporal casebolt went wrong when he got rough with a 15-year-old on a bikini veal sitting on her back with his knees while screaming for mercy and pulling a gun on her friends who came to help. they were trying to figure out who was who but casebolt's former boss didn't mince words saying his conduct was indefensible. >> he came in out of control and as the video shows was out of control during the incident. >> adrian you good now? >> reporter: this arrested adrian martin who tried to come to the girl's aid. all charges against him have been dropped. we were with him when he learned the news. >> uncalled for. it's really sickening. part of it was going through my mind. >> let me explain something to y'all again. >> reporter: the corporal wag named officer of the year in 2008 a navy veteran and families are divided many

blaming the kids who say weren't listening to police. >> if she had done what he told her to do it wouldn't have happened. >> reporter: but casebolt's policing of black residents has been questioned before. in 2008 he and several other officers sued after a traffic stop accused of racial profiling and harassment a judge dismissed the case. this latest incident has police investigating whether they'll file criminal charges. we reached out to the corporal for comment, didn't get any. his lawyer is expected to hold a news conference later today. george. >> i know you'll be there. okay, steve, thanks very much. an urgent warning about speeding trains. federal regulators are calling for changes to make them safer as we learn more about that deadly derailment in philadelphia last month. abc's david kerley in washington with the latest. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, george. a key piece of information is going to be revealed today about that derailment outside of philadelphia. investigators have now determined whether the engineer was or was not using his cell

phone at the time of the accident. this morning, investigators reportedly now know whether the engineer's cell phone was put away in a bag as he says or was being used at the time of the derailment. that eight-car train was traveling at more than twice the speed limit going more than 100 miles an hour when it hit a curb north of philadelphia and derailed. amtrak has been forced to make changes there before trains started rolling again. and it says it will go farther adding new technology and cameras that record the engineer. this morning, the federal government is calling for changes across the country to deal with passenger trains speed and dangerous corners. the feds want warning signs where speed limbs drop more than 20 miles an hour. if a train doesn't have automatic braking technology a crew member stay in contact with the engineer doing those high-speed areas and that trains that do have that technology need to be checked and calibrated for speed. amtrak says by the end of this year on the northeast corridor it will install the latest

technology known as positive train control. all rail lines are supposed to meet that deadline as the ceo of amtrak told me in philadelphia. >> there's been some difficulty for them to get their -- all their acts together. they all have a different idea of what they should do but there's -- i think it's a clear message out here this is coming. >> reporter: so later this morning, we will learn that key piece of information about whether that engineer was on his cell phone. if he wasn't george we're left with the nagging question why was the train going twice the speed limit when it hit that curb in philadelphia. >> thanks very much. we'll go to "gma" weekend anchor paula faris in for amy. we heard about rail safety. you're starting with highway safety. >> great to be here. the maker of a karlovic guardrail is being ordered to pay up this morning. trinity highway products was the subject of our reporting last fall when a jury ruled the company made false statements to the government about a change in how it made guardrails.

plaintiffs argued the change caused those guardrails to malfunction resulting in serious injuries. a judge has now ordered trinity to pay $663 million in damages. and as many as 10 million workers could be getting a pay raise under a plan discussed on capitol hill today. the obama administration wants to make more workers eligible for time and a half over time pay. many business owners argue that this will kill jobs the plan could raise the maximum salary for mandatory overtime from $23,000 set back in the 1970s to at least $51,000. the los angeles police commission has found one of two officers involved in that fatal shooting of easel ford violated policy by using lethal force. ford who was unharmed -- unarmed and mentally ill was shot in the back and his mother wants criminal charges brought against

shaquille o'neal to name a few who overcame their speech impediment impediment. he mentioned from time to time even as an adult he suffers from it when he gets really excited about something or he wants to tell somebody a secret then it kind of cops up again. >> rich besser is here right now. we heard how common this is. what do we know about the causes. >> it's early days and fully understanding it. when we're talking about stuttering we mean problems with the flow of your speech and the rate the rhythm getting stuck on certain word certain sounds. and when you look at causes clearly genetics is part because it runs in families but there are environmental erins that play in as well. a lot of stuttering is normal development. you know kids they're learning so many words and probably not able to say them as fast as their brain is taking them in and then their neurologic conditions are pretty rare as a cause of stuttering. >> ed gives a lot of credit to eminem -- i say slim shady because i can't say eminem. is there really a correlation between stuttering and music?

>> well this is incredibly cool. there's this new small study that looks at a child's ability to tell the difference between rhythms and what they found was children who stutter are not as good at telling the difference between different musical rhythms as children who don't so let's do a little demo here. we have -- we have dan weiner here who is our drummer and will play two different rhythms. listen carefully and i want you to try to tell the difference. here's rhythm number one. ♪ >> okay. and here's rhythm number two. ♪ >> different, yeah. >> all right. now he's going to play one of those again and tell me -- i'll you whether it's rhythm number one or two.

"nightline's" juju chang spent time with the family during their harrowing ordeal. >> reporter: it's a day the mata family has only dreamed about. a family photo with two baby girls on their laps and son by their side. two sisters, now reunited. a happy ending to a harrowing story that begins here a little over a year ago. knatalye and adeline were born conjoined from the win cage down to their pelvis with some internal organs fused together. >> what is it? >> i want to give them a shot at a normal life. >> reporter: so a year later after ten months in the hospital, a team of 12 surgeons at texas children's hospital
