the ride which reaches 50 miles an hour was shut down and investigators were investigating how it happened. aditi roy has more. >> reporter: the joy of a thrill ride and amusement park turned into sheer horror of a worker tried to receive a cell phone from a platform and suffered injuries while doing so. >> an employee was hit by a roller coaster, head damage. >> reporter: overnight, a horror horrific scene at a theme park after a worker husband hurt at great america. >> i think someone dropped a cell phone. >> reporter: a witness on the extreme ride flight deck telling abc news that the worker leaned over the track to retrieve a dropped cell phone and a car of riders came under the corner into the station, striking the man. >> he got dragged from the

entrance to the exit. >> reporter: shocked onlookers describing the chaos. one woman not on the ride wince witnessing the accident and closer her eyes because it was too gory. >> like oh my god, someone just got hit, and screaming and stuff. >> reporter: the extreme ride scene here posted on youtube. popular for speeds up to 50 miles an hour, dangleing riders' legs under the tracks. it was as the ride came around the last turn that the worker was caught in the way. the collision causing nonlife threatening injuries to a passenger. no worth on either person's condition this morning. the park is still open but the ride is shut down as investigators look at the safety of the ride. it appears the ride did not malfunction. you hope for the best for that worker.
