women's soccer team are champions of the world tonight for the first time since 1999. the ladies won in spectacular style against the japanese, who won the title in 2011. this was billed as a net big rematch, and the u.s. women came through with a great performance. reporter: team usa stormed the field, running towards redemption. four years ago, the americans lost the championship game to japan in this agonizing penalty kick shootout. the u.s. struck first and fast on the first two shots of the game. carli lloyd putting the americans ahead 1-0 only three minutes into play. three minutes later, carli lloyd again, giving the usa the quick 2-0 lead, the two fastest goals and women's world cup history. lauren holiday scored a third goal for the u.s.

the japanese defenders cannot keep up. and carli lloyd pulls off the hat trick from midfield 4-0 u.s. after 16 minutes. japan finally got into the game and the 27th minute. the u.s. to the 4-1 lead into the locker room. in the second half, the americans pulled ahead 5-2. the japanese women could not find their stride. team usa, champions of the world after 16 years. >> i knew they had it in them, they knew they had it in them and now i'm so happy the world gets to see it. >> so proud. it's a surreal moment. it is been amazing. reporter: victory is sweet. alex stone, abc news, vancouver. kellye: new security measures at the white house.

weekend. roz plater has been digging for answers. roz: allen has been trying to get his car from this parking garage early friday morning. he and his family are visiting from nashville. he says he was told earlier in the week to pick up his car any day but sunday. >> as long as we're able to get back saturday. roz: he discovered the garage was shut down friday for the holiday, and he is not alone. others say their cars are trapped, with no warning. >> there is a sign posted about the holiday weekend. roz: he called the number posted on the garage repeatedly. about eight hours later, he finally got through. >> i just need my car out. roz: the worker said he could get his car if he handed over an additional $50 cash, and after-hours fee. >> and my being taken for a

pleads guilty to federal bribery charges. the company's contract with d.c. is going under review. chris papst has the story that you will see only on abc 7. >> i had some really good mentors. chris: this woman is karen finley. she is the former ceo of a company that operates traffic cameras. two weeks ago and all i/o, she pled guilty to conspiring to bribe elected officials in return for contracts. phil mendel, the chairman of the d.c. city council, a position that he held in 2012 when the city entered into the three-year, $4.5 million contract with the camera company. he did not recall any red flags in the contract was issued. he says it is time to revisit especially since finley was ceo

at the time. >> i think the government should look at the contract. chris: the problem extends beyond ohio. the city of chicago terminated its contract after a federal grand jury in 2014 issued a 23-count indictment claiming they paid city officials in exchange for $124 million in public contracts. do you recall getting any contributions from the company? >> i don't recall personally getting contributions. kellye: coming up -- the government stepping in over airfares the investigation going on and why your money could be at risk. and what you need to know to keep your dream vacation from turning into a travel nightmare. devon: some rain is out there and we have some thunderstorms, possibly with the next round.

kellye: an update on renovations at baltimore's washington monument. we got an early look. >> this neighborhood is called mount vernon. reporter: in the center of the historic community, the salute. >> i wondered for years what he is doing up there. reporter: the country's first

monument honoring the first president, george washington. the monument has undergone a $2 million refurbishing. five years ago, it was showing signs of decay. >> a lot of water stains, a lot of damage to the plaster and stone. it was a mess. reporter: with the work complete, the monument is shining again. officials at the mount vernon place conservatory to us all the way to the top 227 steps where there are four windows and for very good views. there are interactive maps. >> i think what is really amazing is how bright it is. reporter: private funds helped if with a facelift. >> it is our history and it's important.

we as americans don't really realize how deep democracy and freedom and rule by law goes. reporter: the mine yet -- the monument reopens on its 200th birthday this saturday. it may be old, but it's hardly showing its age.
