lightning blasting throughout the day, believed to have struck the avanti resort in orlando. no injuries reported. and mother nature creating her own light show at disney's magic kingdom. this fire about 2,000 acres. 0% contained. they're worried as the sun comes up this fire might be off to the races yet again. >> they're on high alert for more fires in the west this morning. the record heat creating dangerous conditions. ginger has much more on that. >> seattle should go for day six today of 90-plus-degree heat. that's the first time that would happen in recorded history. this is in british columbia. that's filtered down to the pacific northwest. the fire danger is high. there are heat advisories. so many folks go back into the 9 0s. the other story, flash flooding. from minneapolis over into far northwestern wisconsin.

you'll see anywhere from 3 to 4 inches of rain with this. we have seen reports. look at those pictures out of missouri. submerged cars. people trying to get through. another reminder if you have rain like that don't drive through it. flash flood watches from new mexico up to illinois. we'll watch all of this as h heavy rains come the next several day. hot and very very dry out west. >> a whole lot to track. thank you, ginger. we turn to tragic shooting at a popular tourist site in california. a young woman killed by an illegal immigrant, a repeat felon who had been deported five times. >> reporter: this is tragic on every level. it raises an awful question. did a gap in our nation's immigration system cost this victim her life? katherine steinle. by all accounts a wonderful loving daughter and sister, 32 years old is dead this morning and should not be.

authorities say she was killed by this man, francisco sanchez, an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times. >> we have one victim. gunshot wound to the back. >> reporter: her father jim, can't believe how a routine walk on this peer on wednesday turned into a nightmare in broad daylight. >> she was really laboring in her breath. i just kept talking to her. >> i'll miss -- introducing her to my baby. and having fun with her. and i'll miss her smile and her laugh. >> reporter: u.s. officials are now pointing a finger at local law enforcement saying they handed over sanchez to san francisco authorities to face a local drug charge after spending time in federal prison. the feds claim they asked in writing to be notified when sanchez's local case was completed. loek m officials say after the drug charges were dropped, they had no legal reason to hold him.

york we spent a lot of time together. we had awesome conversations. i was like, oh yeah. i got this. we never had a bad moment together honestly. >> at first, the breakup, you seemed okay. but then it sure did escalate quickly. what happened in those moments? >> in this experience you make yourself vulnerable. you can actually have meaningful conversations. you don't have small talk. you connect with somebody quickly. i did feel genuine emotion. i was feeling sad. at the same time i was laughing too, on the ground i was like this is ridiculous. it all hit me at once. it all came out. >> for the people who say that was just for the show you were acting. those tears were overdramatic. you're saying they were legit? >> when i watched it back it looked like i was kting a. it's because i'm laughing at myself when i'm crying. >> will you be able to love

to prepare. getting a little extra sun and keeping up his strict diet and fitness routine. >> it's easier to stay in shape than to get back into shape. i always make sure i have the proper nutrition. working out. working with the right people. >> reporter: but the hoops star wasn't always so fit. this is one of the pictures from the shoot. this is you in high school. so there's a big difference there. >> a bit of a change. >> a little bit. tell me about how you got from here to here. >> i haven't seen that picture in awhile. probably down between 30 and 40 pounds. it was a lifestyle change. learning discipline. deciding what you want now and what you want most? i wanted a body that was going to afford me that opportunity to play at a very high level. >> these guys know now play basketball. >> reporter: and it has. the three-time all-star just signing a new deal with a kfs.
