chuck: mexico's most notorious drug dealer is now their most wanted man again. these maximum-security walls could not hold el chapo who pulled off a storybook jailbreak. >> this is a huge failure. he is one of the most powerful drug cartel leaders in mexico, if not the most powerful. chuck: he slipped through a small hole in his tunnel including ventilation, lights and a motorcycle, a tunnel mile-long. >> he is notorious for his use of tamils. he has a team of engineers and miners that have built over 100 tunnels between the u.s. and mexico. chuck: he spent 13 years on the run after a previous escape. mexican authorities finally recaptured him just last year. el chapo at 58 was head of the

mexican drug cartel, behind one quarter of all the illegal drugs smuggled into the united states. his criminal empire is blamed for tens of thousands of deaths, from drug overdoses and gang murders. >> he is like the osama bin laden of drug trafficking. chuck: attorney general loretta lynch has offered help to get him back behind bars. that will not be easy. el cha;po can draw on a fortune at worth more than a billion dollars to bankroll life on the lam. kellye: a metro transit officer taken into custody this week, accused of exposing himself and asking for inappropriate images from a 16-year-old girl. roz plater has more on the disturbing charges. roz: david davis is a seven-year metro police officer. after searching his woodbridge

home, prince william county police charged him with taking indecent liberties with a child. we are not identifying his roommate's who say they are stunned. >> this is very surprising. >> i cannot believe it, to be honest. he is a mentor for the kids in the neighborhood. roz: the police say that he used a cell phone app tango me to chat with the 14-year-old girl. davis used it to expose himself and select inappropriate images from the teen. the tour said, "given the deeply disturbing nature of the charges, the employee involved has been suspended without pay effective immediately." his roommates say that is what is so hard to believe because davis loved being a police officer. >> when i moved in he said i'm a police officer and i cannot do anything to jeopardize my job. >> i cannot see him jeopardizing

himself like this. roz: roz plater, abc 7 news. kellye: a federal appeals court upheld bob mcdonnell's conviction. a jury found him and his wife, maureen, guilty of corruption, receiving more than 100 safety $5,000 of gifts and loans -- $165,000 of gifts and loans. he has been free pending appeal. read the full court opinion on our website, wjla.com. spotsylvania county, a major break in the robbery and shooting of a convenience store clerk. investigators announced an arrest. jeff goldberg has the very latest developments. jeff: a great deal of relief and satisfaction from investigators who have been working tirelessly on this case. finally bringing charges after this awful crime that took place in march of 2014.

the grand jury indicted derek sprouse of spotsylvania. he's accused of malicious wounding and parole violations. the authority say that sprouse entered the convenience store and asked the clerk for smokeless product. when the clerk turned around, he allegedly shot her in the back of the head. he shot her a second time before fleeing. he shot her the second time in the face. miraculously, she survived and called 911. after 100 interviews and countless hours of work investigators arrested sprouse. >> people were very concerned and they want it results. >> i hope she gets what she is looking for, justice. jeff: sprouse is in jail in north carolina, awaiting trial

for a convenience store robbery in that state. he is expected to be brought back to virginia at some point soon. meanwhile, they're expressing a great deal of relief. in spotsylvania county, jeff goldberg, abc 7 news. kellye: a canadian police officer injured in an accident. it was in the world please fire games. we are told the officer has a long road to recovery, but he is doing better. silva was killed in a crash in prince william county. 7 on your side with an alert for dominion power customers. the company says the past several days, thieves have used phone software to target customers. thieves threaten to turn off

kellye: a huge celebration this week for the women's world cup champions. they were honored with a tickertape parade. the entire country still celebrating the team's 5-2 victory over japan. they are the first team in history to do that, and also the first women's team to have a victory parade like this in new york. >> thank you for coming out, we love new york! you guys are the best! go usa! kellye: they are the first team in history to do it. the parade route is known as the canyon of heroes. the team is still working out details for a visit to president obama at the white house. have you heard about the new beach in the district? yes, right in the middle of d.c.

kellye: the rain is already in some local areas? devon: that's right, but it is spotty in nature. it's likely it will be here. the latest coming in tonight the short-term range, which only goes about half a day. the wider view from doppler radar, this is interesting, this spin, which is moderate shower activity.

strong, severe storms. tomorrow morning futurecast show showers coming in. that is for the morning commute and rush-hour. even if you don't have to get on the road, make sure that you have the rain gear handy. there could be thunderstorms in the afternoon. the potential of strong, maybe severe storms. 90 washington, could be low 90's. the storm production center in norman oklahoma, has put a risk south of the region. rain likely. tuesday will be stormy. a possibility that the heat will return over the weekend. kellye: imagine watching your new cars turned sideways and crash as its toe to the repair shop.

for one woman, the problems did not end there. she turned to 7 on your side troubleshooter horace holmes. horace: 85-year-old ruth has car troubles again. 7 on your side first met ruth in february when she contacted us about getting her vehicle back. the local repair shop she had taken the vehicle to four transmission overhaul kept the car for more than year. what about her car? >> what about her car? horace: after phone calls and trips to the repair shop, the repair shop returned the vehicle, the transmission in the backseat. her insurance company says it was not repairable. >> i gave the money to my son. horace: he bought this used mercedes. before the fourth of july, he accidentally dropped the keys in the water. the mercedes dealership told him he would have to tow the car and

bring the keys to them to get the situation fixed. the truck driver came to his house, hooked up the car, and took off. >> everybody was saying, hey your car is going sideways into the street. >> mess the car up. horace: damage to the rims, the tires, the alignment. they towed it the mercedes dealership and got it fixed. the bill was just over $2000. they called the tow truck company first. he said he would take responsibility for the accident, then stopped taking the calls. >> the tow truck messed up my car. don't you think i should get the money back? kellye: coming up -- fighting through sickness. a life-changing diagnosis.

kellye: a cancer diagnosis gets different reactions from different people. you are about to meet somebody who was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer but fought back through fitness. alison starling shows us how she is helping other cancer patients get through their darkest days. alison: loves spinning and teaching spin class at washington sports clubs, but this is a special class. it is called ride to recovery, free for cancer patients, cancer

survivors, and any wanting to do a fundraiser called the ride to conquer cancer. >> i feel spinning has kept me alive. alison: she was diagnosed with straight -- stage 3 breast cancer. it blindsided her. >> i've heard so many stories. but you never think it's going to happen to you. alison: after six chemotherapy treatments, nine radiation treatments, and surgeries, she will reach her five-your cancer free market august. even at her worst, she said she would still teach spin class. >> if you have to get in front of the room, it forced me to pedal. i had to pedal. i had my scarf on my head, i had no hair, but i had to pedal. >> today's class has two cancer survivors come a man and woman both moved by her story and

strength. she said her mission is to help anybody fight cancer feel better and better each week. >> the riding part of it, it's an access to moving. you know, you are not in this alone. it's a whole different -- whole different ballgame. alison: many in her class will be doing the ride to conquer cancer in september, a two day ride that covers more than 150 miles in the d.c. area. alison starling, abc 7 news.
