your side. >> neglect, incompetence, and failure to help. we first ou about the incident at -- back in march. chris is live with the case against the lieutenant and just how the little boy's death is prompting changes to the emergency response system. >> that lieutenant's name has been redacted from this report. what we do know is that he worked inside this fire station here in tenleytown. we just want to make clear that the charges were talking about our department charges that will eventually be heard by an internal trial board. human error and issues of technical training. that is what a recent report says cause delayed emergency response back on march 13 when a toddler begin choking on a grape . according to the report, 911 was

called at 8:36, but an ambulance did not arrive for several minutes. the young boy later died at the hospital. afterwards, an investigation was launched into what went wrong. it says the delayed response was due to the wrong emergency crews being dispatched. partly because of a software error and partly because a lieutenant, who is now been charged by the department, did not promptly notify dispatchers that his medical unit was closer. to try to remedy this and other recent problems, a statement today by the mayor said 44 new firefighters and emts will be hired in the coming months. more money has been allocated for your emergency equipment and changes are coming and how the department communicates with 911 dispatch. in addition to those changes the mayor also announced that three liaison officers have recently been added to three

d.c. hospitals to get ambulance crews back on the street quicker after they dropped some money off. >> happening now, police are investigating a shooting in southeast, and the scene has been active for several hours now. police say an adult male was unconscious and not breathing when they found him there. no arrests have been made. developing now, a manhunt for the person who tried to rape a woman in arlington neighborhood. the woman said she was attacked over the weekend on the 1900 block of 15th street north. mike has new details on the case. it's just a couple of blocks away from the courthouse itself. >> just up the street here, and detectives just interviewed this woman again tonight. she told him she was coming home very early saturday at around 15th and courthouses where she first encountered this man.

she rebuffed his advances and kept walking. it's unclear where exactly it happen. she said he ran up and shoved her into some bushes. >> i walk home all the time, so i'm just really shocked to hear about this. >> young women in this neighborhood are shaken up after police are investigating a case of attempted rape along this block. around 1:00 a.m. saturday, a 25 euro woman told investigators a man started following her. she said he shoved her down into some bushes and grabbed at her groin area trying to put his hand down her pants. chief ought back, kicking and screaming. she said when she hit him in his groin, he stopped and walked away. she said during the struggle she dropped her cell phone, but she flagged down a passing car, who then called 911. neighbors say with so many young arlington residents visiting the

and humidity and just a few minutes. leon: new concerns about asbestos on metro cars. metro insisting there is no hazard to the riders. jay korff live with what happens next. jay: metro has put out a bid and they want to get a contractor in who can safely remove the asbestos that is in these 1000 series cars. again they stress this is not a health hazard to riders, but when you say the word asbestos people worry. according to this recent contract proposal, metro is looking for a vendor to remove and dispose of as best the 1000 series railcars that are being replaced by the new 7000 series cars. 280 at these cars still remain

in use throughout the system. it only took us minutes to see 1000 series cars pull into the courthouse metro station. metro officials say an extremely small amount of asbestos is located in a mechanical area of the cars. they stressed the material is outside of the passenger cabin and is not accessible to rider thus posing nos hazard or concern. the danger of asbestos comes when released in -- released into the air and pulled into the loanungs. >> it is important that you tell people and basically tried to keep them away from it if you are going to move it. >> it's a hazard. it clings to your body like velcro. >> the 1000 series cars are the fleet costs oldest. federal regulators have blasted metro for years for not replacing the cars quicker.
