deadly fire in quantico being investigated by homicide detectives and the fire marshall's office. fire detectives were called to the 200 block of broadway street just after 7:00. one person was found dead. five others that out ok. sam sweeney is live on the scene with more details. good afternoon. when firefighters arrived at about 7:30, flames and smoke were shooting from the windows of that apartment building right there. peoplehters rescued 4 from the second floor. one person was able to walk out on their own, but sadly, another man who was bedridden, living in that apartment where those black marks are above the window, was not able to make it out alive. useer fighters were able to ground letters to get everyone that they could, but again, that one man was trapped -- firefighters were able to use ground ladders. working thecies are

scene including the atf, marine base quantico, and prince william county. the owner of the building was also one of those inside this morning. we just spoke to a friend of hers who says she is devastated by the loss of the man she took care of. >> you are in a state of shock. upset about losing someone here and that she could not get to him. that was her biggest tng, that she could not get to him. she said she tried and the smoke was so bad she just could not do it. ; right now, police are not releasing the name of the victim pending notification of his family members. this is the same home where a retired marine killed his son in 2000 one. many may remember the murder because of the unusual circumstances. that man killed his son, went to a nearby bar, ordered a beer, and told the bartender he need to use the phone because he just

apartment building on south laurel drive. >> you can see this is a three-story garden style apartment building. the worst of the damage is up on the third floor. you can will see smoke pouring from that unit. inside in the window, a firefighter doing his job right here right now trying to get the fire put out. it is described as out, but there is still smoke coming from the ceiling. firefighters struggle because irish tend to get in that roof fires tend to get in that roof area. three firefighters have an injured battling the blaze. two were part of the initial attack, the guys they grab poses and go right -- because they grab poses -- the guys that grab hoses and go right in. note,ar more serious

these firefighters may suffer some injuries. a third firefighter suffered injuries to his ankle. we saw him a moment ago, and he gave us a thumbs-up. some people have been displaced, but we do not want to intrude too terribly on their privacy, but there are a number of people that have been displaced from their unit. obviously, they are in distress at this point. operations are still ongoing to get this fire put out. thefighters use some of exit ran to save some of their gear. the fire is now out. up stagein the mop trying to make sure it is completely put out. firefighters did suffer some burns. we are told the burns are serious in nature, though not life-threatening. they have then taken to the burn unit -- they have been taken to

making a policy change in the name of safe. -- the name of safety. regal says it will now check customers' bags. john: could this be a sign of things to come? in the wake of violent attacks, regal entertainment group says it is making the security adjustment. customers have noticed the changes at turnstiles and some of the cinemas in texas, florida, ohio, and here in virginia. the nation's largest theater operates some 75 theaters around the country. the company says security issues have become a daily part of americans' lives. bags are subject to inspection before the movie. earlier this month, a man with a history of mental illness armed with a pelican, hatchet, and pepper spray attacked guests at
